Well, you guys have fun with being in denial over how bad some drinks can be for you VS only pure water.
i drink soda MAYBE twice a month..
i drink tea whenever i feel like it, sometimes every night for a while, sometimes none for months.
i drink carbonated water occasionally, and sometimes add unsweetened-all-natural flavoring
i fill my 64 ounce mug with ice water and sip it throughout the day, sometimes i even refill it.
im NOT sitting and drinking 64 oz of soda or coffee. though if i was, id still be hydrated.0 -

is Victoria's Secret marketing their own water now? and if so, is it really that "pure"?0 -
Well by that logic, anything that has water in it counts (jello?) ... seems a little misleading. That said, I too have read the whole water issue has been inflated by the bottled water industry so I'd not agonize over it.0

Did anyone every buy Krank2O. I used to get it all the time back in the day, about 5 years ago. It was water that had caffine added to it. IT ROCKED, but I think they stopped making it. OHHH well, I like to add flavor to my water, without it I would not drink any water all day. I think that if it helps you get the water intake you need a few extra additives are worth it. MY 2 cents.0

Yes. Swing them back and forth, though. Otherwise, it's just stupid.0 -

Oh. Oh no. I don't know what to do, so I think I'll just panic.0 -
I count most things that I drink as water, be it tea, homemade Koolaid, flavored water, soda, sports drinks and etc. Get your water down any way you can.
Also, I agree with Jello counting as water, as they give it to you in the hospital and/or recommend it if you are dehydrated or to keep you hydrated.
For those of you that posted the link to the article http://www.snopes.com/medical/myths/8glasses.asp... Thanks, it was a good read.0 -
I only count plain water as water. Anything flavored has something in it making it not plain water. I don't even count plain carbonated water. I feel that we were made to drink water, the water God put on this Earth for us. So, that is the only water I count. Everything else - tea, coffee, diet soda, etc is listed under either a meal or snack just so I know I consumed some fluids. That is the difference between water and fluids. Fluids are anything with a mostly water base and water is water, pure and simple!0

however, God also helped some brilliant young scientist invent mountain dew ...
(and fwiw, most early peoples drank wine and beer instead of water. beer probably saved the world.)0 -

ahaha! Can't believe I read this entire debate... funny. phew. People get pretty worked up in the great food/drink debate!0

I spent many years of my life with soda as my only form of hydration. If it really were a diuretic, I'd have been hospitalized for dehydration and probably dead by now.0

I guess I shouldn't be surprised by how many people know so little about basic physiology and how your body absorbs water. It just maked me sad.
By some of the 'logic' here I probably need to double up on my water since I added lemon to it. Now I have gone and changed the composition and god didn't mean for that to happen. Or perhaps he has given me the power of alchemy!0 -
Wow, im late for this party!
Time to trot this out again, for all the good it does around here. People just don't wanna read links or find out the actual truth.
Here we go again!
You need the equivalent of 8 cups of water a day on average, from any source. These sources can be pure water/tea/coffee/juice/soda/milk/fruit/veg etc. It does NOT have to be pure neat water!

As for tea/coffee being a diuretic, so many people just spout that word as a reason, without actually understanding what "diuretic" means.
di·u·ret·ic (d-rtk)
adj.
Tending to increase the discharge of urine.
n.
A substance or drug that tends to increase the discharge of urine.
Neat water is also a diuretic. The diuretic effect of caffeine is far, far outweighed by the actual water in the tea/coffee. Also, regular consumers of caffeinated beverages will build up a tolerance to said effect, eventually reaching the point where caffeinated drinks provide practically the same amount of hydration as a cup of neat water will.
