I dunno... I tend to think it sounds sarcastic. Maybe it's just the brash new york culture, but you don't call someone 'sweetheart' or 'honey' in a nice way, it's almost always said with bite.

I give my husband & kids random names like this as well. My son (5 years old) is called Jr. Pork Chop, Jr. Meatloaf, Egg Boy. My daughter gets Jr. Miss Meatloaf & Jr. Miss Pork Chop. My husband gets just about everything -- Hot Stud Pork Potato -- or whatever comes out of my mouth first! They love it.

I haven't had a lot of this, but it wouldn't bother me. It would depend on how it was said. As long as it wasn't creepy & it was said in a supportive way then that would be fine.
