    Mervyns, 16 years old.
  • I was a party hostess at Chuck E. Cheese's and yes, I did wear the Chuck E. suit a couple of times. Awful, just awful.

I worked at a gas station, Union 76. It was a full service station, mechanics worked in the garage.
This was 1985 so there was no booth or mini mart to pay for the gas, I came running out and handled payment at the pump.

I made $3.35 an hour plus commission on selling motor oil or wipers and gas was about 90+- cents a gallon. I feel old.

The lingerie section of Primark (for non-UK people, it's a high street store that sells cheap clothes) at 17. The money was decent, but I hated it. I worked weekends, so it was always heaving, because the clothes are cheap people would just throw them on the floor, so my entire day was comprised of tidying one section of the store because as soon as I'd finished, someone would come along and mess it up again. Not only that, but my manager was a ***** to me. My supervisor was lovely and always thanked me for working hard, but my manager...forget it. I worked there for a little over a year until I moved to another city for university. They asked me if I wanted to be transferred to the store there, but I politely declined haha.

I started a paper route when I was 8 years old... had it all thru high school and didn't quit till I left home for college at 18... 10 years of an early morning paper route, plus other jobs throughout high school. There was a point when I had 3 jobs, paper route, Albertsons, and a photo studio in the mall.

My first job ever was as a bus boy/dishwasher at the legendary Bob's Diner in Philadelphia! Love that place.....and got a free breakfast ever week - pancake, scrapple & the best home fries ever!

Probably part of the reason I wound up here...lol.

My first jobs were summer jobs as a dishwasher at a local restaurant starting when I was 13 or 14. After I turned 16 I switched over to working as a stock boy / sales person at a building supply place since I needed a year round income to support my car and girlfriend.

I was a papergirl for The Good News. I had 147 houses on my route. Picked up my papers and rolled them, stuffed them in the plastic bags and hung them on every door. Couldn't throw them. Lol. =)

I walked out. :D My first actual one was selling mens clothing at a department store. Loved that job so much I kept it for 2 more years.

14 turning 15, painting faces at the booth at Hershey park. I loved it, by far my favorite job. Hershey park took the old booth out and moved the whole "body works" part into a different part where it gets no traffic. No traffic meant less money made and they drastically downsized the dept. Sad.

Chuck E Cheese...I was cashier and ticket lady. And I answered phones...we're making magic here at Chuck E Cheese, how can I help you?

I had all the songs memorized from the parties. I say happy, you say birthday, happy...birthday...happy....birthday!

I was the one to inform the parents, when junior had 11 tickets and wanted the big stuffed animal, that it's 1 cent per ticket if you want to buy the items. That's right, folks...only 1 cent per ticket. What's ridiculous is we had to shred each spent ticket cuz there are idiots out there who would break into the garbage to steal tickets.

Closing was disgusting...the stuff at the salad bar? Yea, we just put saran wrap over each container and reuse it the next day. GROSS!

And I would slip my brother and his friends extra tokens if they came on my shift.

15 and at Burger King. It was the most miserable job ever. I HATED it, they hated me. They hired me as a favor to my mom. I only cleaned the place while everyone else made burgers so I must have been a pretty bad employee. I used to go into the bathroom and lock myself into the stall and sit there. I quit the same day they were going to fire me.
