I am being good all this week so St. Patty's Day will be my cheat day. That way I can eat and drink to my heart's content. To prepare I am exercising for at least an hour every day this week before my cheat day and every day next week after my cheat day.

If I were going to drink or indulge I would do the same as this. Work out extra hard and eat few carbs 3 days prior and same the 3 days following.

Beers are calories and will be added into my daily intake. I will exercise to justify my extra intake on St. Patrick's Day (no more than 4 beers), good ones that is.

People who think that Light beers are better for you are wrong. You are better off having a full flavored craft beer than a Bud, Miller, Coors Light beer. Those have so many adjuncts in them, including fructose corn syrup, that you should avoid them at all costs.

I will imbibe in a New Holland Pilgrim's Dole, Dragon's Milk, and hopefully some other high gravity beers. Quality over quantity!

I say if you plan it out and you're within calories, throw in a little exercise, then indulge yourself! Hell, if you can't fit it within your calories, but it's a special occassion, guess what -- IT'S OK TO SPLURGE! Just don't make a ridiculous habit of it. And if you're under/at calories for the week (I tend to look at the week in addition to single days), then you should be fine.

Our menu for Saturday is the classic St. Patty's day fare - corned beef, cabbage, carrots and potatoes. Toying with the idea of making traditional Irish Soda Bread to go with it. And, of course, a Guinness or three (the 9 mile run Saturday morning will definitely help me manage the calories ).

Sweet! Thanks for the input guys. Myself, I'll be indulging in:

Innis & Gunn (ANYTHING of theirs, except their Blonde)...their rum cask stuff is AWESOME!
    Young's Double-Chocolate Stout
    Guinness Draught (of course!)
Dragon Stout (from Jamaica....can't remember the brewery)
    Eggenberg Doppelbock Dunkel

Not ALL of the above, but my few will be from the above selection ;-).

I completely forgot that I had a big bottle of Rogue Double Chocolate Stout in the fridge that I never got around to drinking on Valentine's day. Thanks for the reminder!

If not for that, I'd probably have a bottle or two of the Sierra Nevada Bigfoot which is in season and just happens to be one of my absolute favorites.

I drink but keep it within my calories; I can have one normally but for St. Patties day I'll probably hit the gym early so give me a little more wiggle room. Also, Guiness is 125 cals a bottle (and I like my beer dark) so it works out well.

Most days I try to fit them in my calories.... some times (maybe once a month) when I go out with friends, I have as many beers and tasty foods as I want and don't stress about it.

Life is too short to give up good beer. Yes, I said GOOD BEER. If you're at your goal, and in maintenance, enjoy the fruck out of your beverages!

OH, I forgot to actually mention what I'll be doing for St. Pats.... I don't think I'll do anything special, really... I kind of think of St. Patrick's day as "amateur night" at the bars.... I don't like drinking with folks that only get tanked a few times a year.

I'm in maintenance at this point. I drink beer on the weekends and eat well during the week. That IS my maintenance plan. :drinker: I hadn't given too much thought to this weekend but I'll probably hit the casino that's near my house for some green beer and a little dancing.

I'll be camping this weekend. But I will do my long run Saturday morning, probably 8 or 9 miles. That will create more than enough room for beer calories. I don't drink beer frequently, but when I do it's going to be craft beer, not that water that's advertised on TV.

At my last trail race some runners were drinking beer at aid stations. Good source of carbs.

I have a plethora of beers picked out. Boulevard Irish Ale, Odell Red Ale, and I have New Belgium Trippel left over from last week's purchase. There is actually a blog about beer and running:

Fructose Corn Syrup in beer? That is sacrilege! I will definitely be enjoying a couple ales but will beat myself up about it the next day. No Guinness - Blech! Maybe a Harp Lager or a MacTarnahans.

I'm working on creating a daily calorie deficit this week but I'm making up for last weekend!
