It's straight up jealousy, I'm tellin ya!0

If you are truly confident, then you don't need to show it off in a gratuitous fashion.0

She got ~my~ sarcastic tone in retort because she made a blanketed stereotype that showing oneself == no self respect.
no awkward moment, it was very clear.
It was a double sarcasm bluff on my behalf0 -
Whipping out your nips in a bar is slutty.
Posting pictures of your body with the appropriate amount of clothing on a fitness website is confidence, not sluttiness.0 -
Is there a reason you keep referring to me??
I wasnt the one who asked for an opinion on this subject.
She asked for OPINIONS.
Everybody has thier own.
I'm simply curious as to why you think it's okay to tell others that they're "too slutty" on the internet when it's none of your business.
I guess you can't answer my question eh?
why does my opinion effect you so harshly??
This forum was not started by you.
& I never said people were to slutty for the internet.
I simply stated my opinion that not everything needs to be shared on the internet and everybody else twisted it to whatever they wanted it to be.
It doesn't affect me "harsly" (not even sure that's really what you meant to say). I'm simply curious about your opinion is all. Still haven't answered my question. It's obvious that you judge people by what they post on the internet even though it really has nothing to do with who they are as a person other than confident enough to post pics.
I'd really like to know what the translation in your head of a person who posts a nude picture on the internet is. Does it translate to "easy, slutty, trashy, has no morals" or what?
Simple curiosity is all.0 -

Confidence and appropriateness are not the same thing...I love confidence in the people around me, and I believe that women and men should dress their best assets (or undress their best assets ). However, women have a tendency to be mean to each other, especially about our bodies. We ALL have things we love and hate about ourselves, and if dressing to show that off is slutty, I suppose I am.
Someone else mentioned appropriate clothing for social and work sitiuations...Would my high school students learn if I showed up in a skintight dress and 5 inch heels? OMG! The boys would SO pay attention that day! Nope, it's khakis and a polo shirt at work...no reason to distract the natives in the springtime!0 -

so because she has the opinion opposite of you, your reply contains a sarcastic and even quite possibly an insulting undertone? i dont think thats fair. if she chooses to have that opinion, we should choose to respect it, that is, if respect is what your asking for when referencing to "slutty" photos.

actuallly thats not at all what i said.
& if you cant respect other ppls opinions you shouldnt ask for them or even be in the forums at all.
Plain and simple
it's okay - i can handle it. i just use this at night so i can sleep ...

I find it interesting that only one person seems to have a different opinion and she is being ganged up on for it. I believe that the OP was asking for an opinion and when one person came along that didn't agree with the majority she must be wrong and picked on.
Personally I don't need to see all of everyone. If I wanted to see all of that there are plenty of porn sites out there that I could visit. Do I think that revealing pictures make someone slutty? No but I think there is a misconception that a person is slutty if they post provocative pictures. To play devil's advocate here, the internet is a very public place. I hire people as part of my job and I never hire anyone without doing a search on the internet for them. It is amazing what a potential employer can see just by typing a name in Google. So for myself, I don't post anything online or photos of myself online that I would be ashamed if my employer saw.
You know this is common practice, right? It's done frequently. Companies can do background checks on anyone, some things may require a release but anyone can google your name and find a facebook page, blog or this weight loss site if your name is connected to it.
I'm confused why you act so shocked that a company would do this.0 -
Sorry... bare boobs and behinds are just inappropriate in a forum such as MFP. I'm happy you're confident. I don't mind you baring some skin. I LOVE all the before/after pics.. spandex, bikinis, skin tight dresses, and all. I think ladies and men's bodies are absolutely beautiful works of art... but I just don't want to see ALL your stuff... Is that so bad?0
-
I have nothing against nudity. Nothing against good pics. That said, I see a lot of trashy photos on MFP. I don't think they're meant to be trashy, but they are inelegant. That's a personal choice, of course. And, one person's trash is another's treasure. I haven't seen your photos, so I don't know how to fit them into the continuum of art versus trash.
It's not important what other people think though. Do what you're going to do and who cares if someone defriends you? That's their choice not to associate with you, as much as it's your choice to post your photos.
If someone shares a recipe with me, I don't need to see them chewing the food closeup to know whether it's good or not. In fact, I would find it disgusting.
Personally, I don't need to see too much closeup, in any category. Except of course my beautiful calves, which I can tell you are extremely defined, despite not having seriously worked out in oh, six years. Weight lifters would pay for these calves, but I digress.0 -

I don't think we're talking about being confident with one's body in this thread. I think it's being confident with one's sexuality.
I don't think taking your clothes off equals confidence in the body, well to a certain extent, I suppose, but to the point where you're being reported and called a slut, I think it's that you're making people uncomfortable with their sexuality. Not in a homo/heterosexual way, but in a general way.
And I don't think that's okay to make people feel uncomfortable, especially at a place where it's meant to be supportive.
One can show off their hard work and wear clothes.0 -
Hi Folks,
Before this goes any further off the rails, please let me comment on our photo guidelines and their necessity.
The photo guidelines on the site are not necessarily a reflection of any individual moderator or staff member's personal morals, nor are they meant to be a judgment of anyone who would like to post images less conservative than the ones of which we "approve."
We recognize that we are a globally used site, and that from culture to culture (and even with great variety within the United States) what's considered appropriate in terms of dress and undress varies widely.
Our focus is on making the site accessible at all times to all users who wish to access our tools: both the diaries for logging food and exercise, and the forums for finding the support they need.
Many, many of our users access these tools regularly from their work computers, with the endorsement and encouragement of their employers. As a result, we make every effort to keep our site, including user-contributed language and images, safe for the workplace. We have heard too many times that our site ends up restricted at a particular workplace because inappropriate language or images show up unexpectedly on company browsers.
So, yes, we play it a little conservatively in our moderation of photos. And this is because our primary goal is to give all of our users access to our tools, not at all because we are in any way interested in enforcing a moral standard on our users. It's simply that our priority is not hosting any and all photos, but rather encouraging and enabling weight-management success, even for those accessing our site from work.
Thanks,
Steven
