This is the first exercise I do on bicep/shoulder/back day. I used to not be able to do more than 3 or 4, about a year ago when I weight only 145 lbs.

I can only do two. I just can't seem to bridge the gap where you go from 1 and 2 -> 3 and beyond.

    F / 39 / 129 lbs.

With the assisted pullups on the absolute lowest weight setting (which I think by default is 10#) I can do 5 with ease. My shins barely touch the kneepad and I don't feel like I'm putting any weight on it.

Without the thingie to kneel on, I'm too short to reach the bar, so I have to jump up and I can lower and raise myself a little, but not with my arms fully extended.

    I'm working on it, though.

seriously, I can't even manage to hang on.

Now, weight assisted that's another story... although I haven't used one of those machines in years.

    This^^

Even as a child when I was skinny I couldn't swing out of the monkey bars! Have no upper body strength to the point where (never admitted this to anyone!) I get tired holding the hair dryer above my head while drying my hair after a minute... Very embarrassing!!

Doing weights at the moment in the hope that improves and my goal is to be able to do at least one pull up.

Then to make me feel worse my boyfriend showed me this video of people with absolutely incredible core, upper body strength and agility. Have hit the weights harder ever since.

    SA = 2

LA = M / 42 / 199.5 / 2 / Why in God's name would I embarrass myself by trying to do this, failing utterly and weeping for several hours? (Note to self: go home and see how many of these you can do!)

My *kitten* is far too heavy for me to lift in any form of pullup. I need to lift NOW. Cannot emphasize that enough: NOW.

For those of you who are still trying to tackle that first pull-up, you can start with negatives.

Use a chair or other platform to get your chin above the bar, then as slow as possible, lower your body until you reach full extension (dead hang). The use the chair to get above the bar again, and do a few more reps the same way.

Pull-ups get easier with practice. Give that a try. :-)

Zero. I was always the fat kid that either ripped the tension bar out of the door frame or dislocated my collarbone in the freefall when they jerked the chair out from under me like a hanging. I would like to one day do one, but I need to lose far more weight to give those muscles a fighting chance!

I am going to try these this week. I will be thrilled if I can get 1.

*lol* I'm sorry, but I couldn't help but to laugh at this.... I was just imagining it being me that someone pulled the chair out from under...
