    took a quick glance at your diary and you are leaving a lot of calories on the table. being at a deficit for a long time can definitely cause hair loss.

    I've been having this same problem for the last couple of years. Never had thick hair but it's so thin now. I've tried different shampoos and stuff to try and fix it but nothing has helped. :(((

    Have you had your thyroid tested?Thyroid problems can lead to loss of hair! Also try switching your shampoo to a better brand (I like Nexus) it has helped me a lot with hair issues. See your doctor though, loss of hair could be something serious.

    Biotin, protein, Nioxin shampoo, EFA 3-6-9 all helpful.

    Have your doctor rule out thyroid, hormonal or medical conditions. Good luck!

    I highlY doubt its your diet as you eat enough by the looks of it.
    It could be stress and anxiety if you have that at all?

    Its most likely a hormonal imbalance, all you can do is see a doctor asap

    Its not a case of this at all. She is eating surely eating enough calories and she certainly doesnt have to eat all her exercise calories let alone any

    Okay, I'm assuming that you are using MFP as it was designed and have let it create a deficit for you already for weight loss, so the additional deficit you are eating at is in addition to 500 or 1000 Calories already in deficit. If that is the case you are WAY under on your Calories and that is probably the problem. If you have your goal set at maintenance, which is how I set mine up, I did the math and you are still eating less then 80% of TDEE. So, again, my professional opinion as an exercise physiologist, certified personal trainer, and certified sports nutritionist is that you are not eating enough to provide the necessary nutrients for the body to support hair and nail growth and probably other bodily functions. The first thing I would recommend is to figure your TDEE and then to eat a Minimum of 80% of that. If you don't see an improvement from that, then look at the specific breakdown of nutrients, food groups, etc. And if you can't get a handle on it nutritionally, then see a doctor. Most of the time, though, weight loss, especially rapid weight loss and weight loss from inadequate nutritional intake, is the cause of sudden hair loss. It can also cause skin changes and acne issues. I use to work with an lady who worked in a spa doing facials and such and I would send any of my personal training clients or gym members that I suspected of not eating adequately and she would be able to tell us exactly what nutrients they were missing based on doing their facial. I was never that good at figuring out which things were specifically missing, but I was never trained in doing facials and such either. But with her help, we were able to get the client back on track with their nutrition and the problems with skin, nails, and hair would be fixed. I wish I still lived near her so I could recommend her spa to my clients.

    I hate to be the bearer of (potentially) bad news, but when I was your age the same thing happened. My hair got thinner and thinner from being so thick, my hairdresser didn't know what to do with all of it. Back then "up in curls" was popular. Anyway, after the initial hair loss period of about a year, I had very thin hair left, which continued to gradually thin until now. I'm 64 and have EXTREMELY thin hair on top. So thin I have to wear a wig or had when I go out. I have seen other women with thin hair, but I can't bring myself to go out that way. These days with the stresses of women's jobs and the closer our lifestyles get with those of men, well, we also get male-pattern baldness. Sadly, it's true.

  • If you or your stylist notice smooth round patches on your scalp or other parts of your body it is likely Alopecia Areata. Your doctor and/or a dermatologist can diagnose this condition and suggest a treatment plan. If this is what you have, the good news is it is not life-threatening; bad news is it is very unpredictable. Be sure to go see your doctor so that you can know what you are dealing with.     OK, so let me preface this by saying ANYone who knows me, knows that I have always had THICK...I mean enough for 2 people THICK hair. Lovely thick light red hair.

    I have noticed, that I have been losing more hair than normal. Especially in the shower when I run my hands through it. I have been eating my cals and getting MOST of my nutrients, feel free to look @ my diary.

    So I go to get my hair cut today and my stylist said that I was losing a LOT of hair. I then told her that I have noticed it lately & that I used to have very thick hair. She was SHOCKED...WOW. That was a knock down for me, bc I have always LOVED my hair. It was the only thing I was proud of on my body. But she said to get my thyroid checked, bc that can cause it as well.

    I'm pretty bummed about it. I used to need the ultra heavy duty pony tail holders and now the little ones do just fine. I want my thick supple hair back!!

    My MFP bestie told me to up my omega-3s & protein with tuna & stuff. As well as Biotin. I am going for my yearly next month.

    Any other ideas??
    Had same problem till I started a multivitamin.

    Stress will do it!!!! I have been going through a divorce and have been very stressed the last 6 months and my hair is falling out too. Plus not being able to eat because of it all. Try to reduce the stress in your life.
    Are you eating enough? How is your stress level? Those are side effects for too low calories and high stress. Hope it stops falling out for you!


    Oh...my stress...you dont even know!! Since I have started on my WLJ, there have been 3 deaths, BIL went literally crazy, other BIL lost his job, hubby lost his job, we moved & are living in an RV, still paying for old apartment & RV lot rent. UGH!!

    I go to the dr. next month on the 17 let me know if you have any of the others and if you do maybe i can help you depending on what they tell me. I'm not saying what is wrong with me IS whats wrong with you...but maybe I will be able to give you some pointers??
  • Hi, I have a friend that had the same problem when she lost alot of weight and her problem was she wasn't getting enough protein. Her doctor told her to get at least 75-80 grams of protein a day. She started drinking protein drinks and slowly she got her hair back. Don't know if that's your problem but you could ask your doctor about it. Good Luck!
  • The average person can lose about 100 hairs /per day, IF its anymore than that then go see your Dr. Now keep in mind some ladies I know wash their hair every other day so this amounts to about 200 hairs by the time you wash and brush through it.

    I had this side effect from BIRTH CONTROL. Are you taking any BC right now? It could be that.

    As others have already suggested, I would definitely see a doctor to rule out a thyroid condition.

    But I noticed in your diary that you have only been getting around 60-70g of protein a day which is probably what MFP suggested for you. I always think they set it kind of low so I customize my nutritional goals so I get 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fats.

    That usually means I get around 140g of protein a day even with staying within my calore goal (and my diet is mostly vegetarian with the occasional serving of fish) so if you're a meat eater, you shouldn't have a problem.

    I would suggest you try to work more protein in to your diet and see if that helps any. Also, I'm not sure if you have the iphone app but if you go in to "Home" and then your daily summary, it will not only show your cals/carbs/fats/protein but also your vitamin a, vitamin c, calcium and iron so you can track any deficiencies. It's good to get a general idea of whether you need to supplement or not.

    No BC, got my thyroid & hormones checked last year. All normal. I'm going to up my protein, fat, calcium and other essential nutrients. Thank you all, no other advice is needed.
  • hope you find out the problem i have had very thin hair since puberty was very thick also have just learned to deal with it because my docs say everything looks fine when i get blood work done so hope if u go to doc they can figure it out nothing worse than thin hair good luck!
