Why do guys stare at women lifters?

For all the men who say "because it's hot"...
What about us extra fluffy girls, 300+ pounds, lifting? Does the reason still apply then? Doubtful. So what then?
THIS. I'm a big girl too and when I'd go into the weight room, I think I was more self conscious thinking people were staring, rather than them actually staring. But ya us big girls can lift some weights!0 -
I don't ever see anyone stare, or I don't stare, mostly because I do no (or minimal) rest workouts, but if someone with a really nice body is doing something with weights (like squatting), well that sort of catches the eye without any conscious effort. For me that's limited to women, although if some guy is lifting heavy, I might look and count the plates.
I personally notice women sneaking a peek a lot more often than men, I tell myself that they are either looking to observe good form for the lift, or appreciate the amount of weight. (A lot of the machines I do the whole stack of weights, that might have to do something with it)
If its someone solo, and looking like they are new to weights, and lifting heavy or about to hurt themselves, I will look them in the eye and smile, giving them the opportunity to ask for a spot if they so desire.
I do look at other peoplle lifting that is true, checking out what they are doing and looking at their technique in hopes of understanding how to improve my own. So yeah, it goes both ways0 -
I used to think that the stares were just my imagination until two incidents occurred:
The first time, I was approached by some guy who automatically asks me, 'Are you trying to become a cop or something?'... Totally out of the blue, this one.
The second instance, I had a guy walk up to me and immediately began spotting me. Annnnd since he seemed to be much more experienced in the weight area than I was, I accepted it. Actually, it happened on another instance also with this other guy. He proposed a certain exercise and stayed by my side as I finished up....and on both occasions I received incredible workouts... err.. and soreness. >__<0
