People seriously consider diet sodas as WATER consumption? Use the water tracker for PURE, STRAIGHT UP WATER. The whole point of it is to make sure you're drinking enough water. Not soda or coffee. Decaf tea is a bit more acceptable, but those saying "otherwise, I'd only drink 1 cup a day!" are ridiculous. If you're only having 8 oz of actual water a day, maybe you should try incorporating it more into your day, rather than trying to call other drinks water. :/

At least track the calories that go with it. Youre only kidding yourself if you track coffee as water but dont add in the calories that go with it

I heard that for one cup of coffee one cup of water should be drunk, as coffee flushes some minerals from the body. So, I don't count it as a water consumption.

I don't think anyone was suggesting that...

I don't log my water. I can tell that I'm plenty hydrated. But to answer the question, your body can still use the water from other beverages... even coffee! Even if you put sugar in it!

But I still wouldn't log anything else as water BECAUSE I'd already have it logged, so I wouldn't want to count it twice. Up to you, though.

unless you mean sugar, syrups, creamer, etc, coffee has about 5 calories/ 8oz serving

you burn those all by consuming them, so it's practically a negative-calorie drink

Fair enough. My point is, just make sure you also track the calories that go with it. Why drink a caloric drink and not track calories?

your point is not lost, I just think it's fair to point out the specifics in a coffee-related thread

I don't count coffee as my water but if I add a flavor (not an icetea or lemonade mix) to it then yes, I count that.

If you do a search on the internet - basically every site states you CAN include coffee in your FLUID intake count.

WOW I really started something with this thread.. lol. Well I just wanted to see what people think about it and what they do, and I got that, so thanks! Aside from my coffee in the morning, I think I ingest enough water and other fluids (mainly milk and V8) to get by, so I'll keep doin' what I'm doin'.

Just one more thing: I have to disagree with people saying putting a crystal light packet into water should not count towards water consumption.. I'm putting it in WATER... but whatever. :ohwell: opinions!

So...I worked out this morning and when I got home, I decided to test something. I have had nothing but coffee and I have been peeing like a race horse but I still feel dehydrated. So.....what does that mean?

I only count my water as water.. If I counted coffee as water I would never have to drink water.. which would be nice since I hate water.... but Can;t do that...

    So

WATER IS WATER and that is that.. :)

coffee is coffee, and water is water, don't confuse the two. Beer is made of 95% water, would you count that as water? Keep your water separate and count only water.

What you want to count as water is up to you. But your body counts just about everything liquid as water. If only pure water counted most babies would be dehydrated

At the end of the day.....WATER is WATER. Coffee is NOT water. Tea is NOT water. Pop is NOT water. If you truley want to be healthier have your coffee BUT drink more water to compensate for potential losses.

    Potential losses of what?

    WATER....since coffee is a diuretic.

Have you read the rest of this thread? The diuretic effects of coffee are miniscule and are far outweighed by the fluid in the coffee.

so let's say you take a caffeine pill with 8 oz's of water? do you not count the water....

I am mainly asking those who say coffee isn't considered water because it has caffeine in it....

I do use those crystal light or hawiian punch packets some...but I really started losing weight better when I sucked it up and drank it plain. To each his own...you seem to be doing very well!!!
