I'm a big advocate for plain water, which really if you drink anything but distilled water it has something in it, but I do believe that good hydration comes from water with nothing added to it. HOWEVER, like stated above by multiple people, some people need a stepping stone, if you have someone who is drastically changing their diet/eating habits from a diet of almost entire fast food, soda, sweet tea, and other sugary drinks, and they switch to water with crystal light, or mio, or flavored water, I think its ok. Do I think that people should try to switch over to water with nothing added? Yes, but its called making progress, and progress is made ins steps and change and progress take time. So yes, I agree, that water is water and drinking water with nothing added is way way better for you, but isn't drinking water with flavoring added better than drinking soda, juice, or other sugar loaded beverages? I used to HATE water and always added Crystal light to it, even when I switched to drinking plain water I always had lemon in it, and then I developed an allergy, even after that it took me a long time to get up to drinking 10+ glasses of water a day, enjoying it, and craving it like I do now.

I agree ppl should be drinking plain water despite the taste or lack thereof. It gives your kidneys a nice break from filtering and helps the spleen filter the blood more easily.

I hate reading posts about ppl advocating drinking any type of beverage instead of water, claiming its just as good for the body. Drinking coffee, energy drinks, artificial sweeteners.... That stuff needs to be filtered by our bodies.

Our bodies are MADE to filter. Obviously everything should be in moderation, I don't advocate NEVER drinking water, but our bodies are specifically made to filter out the nasties and keep the good stuff. Should we give our heart a break from pumping? Our lungs a break from breathing?

As far are pure hydration is concerned:

    Here we go again!

You need the equivalent of 8 cups of water a day on average, from any source. These sources can be pure water/tea/coffee/juice/soda/milk/fruit/veg etc. It does NOT have to be pure neat water!

As for tea/coffee being a diuretic, so many people just spout that word as a reason, without actually understanding what "diuretic" means.

    di·u·ret·ic (d-rtk)
    adj.
Tending to increase the discharge of urine.
    n.
A substance or drug that tends to increase the discharge of urine.

Neat water is also a diuretic. The diuretic effect of caffeine is far, far outweighed by the actual water in the tea/coffee. Also, regular consumers of caffeinated beverages will build up a tolerance to said effect, eventually reaching the point where caffeinated drinks provide practically the same amount of hydration as a cup of neat water will.

I usually end up with 4-6 cups using flavoring, and about 4-8 without.

I see no change in my restroom habits regardless of if it's water, or water with flavoring.

I do drink mostly the kind of flavoring that say "energy" or basically a fancy term for caffeine. I drink that instead of like Mountain Dew or Coke since I can't drink coffee, or tea (really loathe the taste of both)

i dont count anything as my "water intake" unless its literally a cup of water...

    protein shakes dont count
    flavoured water dont count
    tea dont count
    coffee dont count\

even when starting a dehydration process i drink 2.0-3.0 gallons of CLEAN PURE WATER on top of my protein shake n coffee

    Ditto!

I hope you're only drinking water synthesized via electrolysis right before you drink it, otherwise it's not water.

A few squeezes of fresh lemon makes plain old water taste soooo delicious in my opinion! And no artificial sweeteners to worry about!

Lemon in water is actually good for you... When my tummy is acting icky, I drink water with lemon and mint.

Ok this is one of my pet peeves... Water is nothing else but h2o. It bugs me when people talk about "flavor water" if what you drink has a flavor taste, color or anything like that, news flash it's not water. True it may be made with water, but when you put chemical packets to enhance the taste it's no longer true h2o. And what's in those packets will do more harm than good.

    Water = h2o

Not this or any other drink whose ingredients is more than h2o
     Aquafina FlavorSplash

    Flavored Water
      Country: USA
      Flavor: Citrus Blend
      Sweetner: Splenda
      Carbonation: No
      Container: Plastic

      Aquafina Citrus Blend FlavorSplash Ingredients:
Filtered Water, Natural Flavors, Citric Acid, Sodium Hexametaphosphate, Phosphoric Acid, Sodium Benzonate, Sodium Citrate, Sucralose (splenda) Calcium Disodium EDTA.

You do realize that the water you drink isnt pure h2o right? It has minerals and everything. Pure h20 = distilled water in the laboratory and something tells me you do not want to drink that

    You said it well.

If you need your water to "go down easier", drop some fresh lemon slices into your pitcher or glass. I make sure mine is ice cold.

Why does everyone care so much about what other people eat/drink? Just worry about what you consume, and let people live their lives in peace.

Except water is the main ingredient for many of the "flavored" drinks you like to demonize. I just drank a liter of diet soda, and earlier I drank half a gallon of water. Now I'm going to put on my sunglasses and tell you to "Deal with it."

Oh and does this mean only distilled water counts since there could be microorganisms in tap or spring water?

I wasn't aware that anyone cared this much... Or what stems it really... People are drinking something other than caffeinated, carbonated, carb loaded soda... Or any other various drink that is relatively horrible for you. I'd be curious to see how flavoring water is more harm than good exactly.

Drinking 64 oz of no calorie(for better or worse here) flavored "water" as you hate... Or a 2 liter of soda or diet soda.... Pretty sure the chemically altered water is doing a lot more good than the soda which has even more crap added.

I get its a pet peeve, but man, I can't imagine something like that getting under my skin....

And what is diet soda besides flavored water?
