What do I do for a living...Unofficially, I'm awesome. All day, every day. Officially, I'm a security officer and sit at a desk for 12 hour shifts. I plan out my meals though and make sure to pack enough food and healthy snacks for the duration of the day to keep me away from the snack machines.

I just finished being a full time graduate student. So between interning, classes, and working what free time I have as a substitute teacher it has been a whole lot of sitting. It's taken a drastic lifestyle change in this past year but it's been successful in I've lost 34lbs since July 1st last year, but the sitting was a huge barrier. I'm hoping now my future job will allow me more activity.

I'm a cashier, so I'm on my feet all day, standing, bending, lifting, walking... I don't know exactly how many calories I burn, so I usually just tack on an extra 500 for an 8 hour shift.

im a substitute teacher. I try to circulate the classroom and avoid constantly sitting. To work out, I use the exercise machines in my apartment building.

Nutritionist/food scientist! The best part about my field is being in the kitchen. I love creating new & fun recipes for my patients that are also healthy! The only time I get physically exhausted (or even break a sweat) is when I have a lot of things being prepared at once (e.g. various foods) Otherwise it's mostly done sitting down. When I make meal plans for patients, it'll take me 2-3 hours-ish so I'm sitting on my bum.

I'm a political agent (known in the US as a campaign manager). At non election times my job is mostly desk based, at election times I'm out and about a lot more but also working ridiculous hours which makes it harder to eat well.

ICU RN, some nights are go go go, some are sit sit sit. On my off days I am a walker. I get around 20-30 miles a week in not counting my walking at work. Hoping to add more soon.

^This I totally relate to, I'm a CNA at a Long Term Enhanced Care facility. On my days off and sometimes after 12 hour shifts I am a walker/beginner jogger :)

Tech support for a government agency. I'm a girl-nerd =) Unfortunately, that means I'm sitting at my desk most of the day and end up taking walks when i get home or taking short walks when I can (like getting water downstairs instead of on my floor)

I'm a freelance writer and I work from home. I have a 4 y/o daughter and a 15-monthold son. I fit in exercise whenever I can, when they are napping, when they are playing nicely. There is no such thing as a set schedule for me

I write software. I have a bad back, so I was looking for alternative ways to NOT sit all day. I built a treadmill desk. I know it sounds crazy, but you can type very easily at 2 mph. Depending on the project and company, I have been know to walk 3-5 hours/day while I code from home. However, sometimes I sit all day which not only hurts my back, it makes weight loss difficult.

I work the night shift (3am close) at Mr. Sub. On a busy night I'm up and running around for about 5 hours, but I'm surrounded by food!

I'm a lower elementary (1st - 3rd grades) Montessori teacher in our public school system. Depending on what lessons I am presenting that day, I am up and all over the classroom while other times I am sitting for most of the day. I am on the second floor but don't get out of my classroom much with everything I have to do. NSV since losing a little weight ... I don't feel like I am going to die when I reach the second floor anymore!! :)

I agree with the other teacher who said that she is completely wiped out by the end of the day. My goal for the summer when I have a bit of time off is to make exercise part of my day so that when school begins in August, I am used to it.

Desk job, but high stress. So, I think that burns calories. I also run 4 days a week and ST 3 days a week.

I work in marketing and business research, so a desk job. I'm also student and mother. I run 4 days a week, in the evenings. I walk over my breaks at work. The walking is just to keep my head on straight.

The only way to get things done is to prioritize them. My running comes first. I don't work late on days I need to run. I don't work weekends unless I've finished my run. I don't clean my house until my running is done. It comes first. And you know what? All the other pieces fall into place when my running comes first.

    I'm a better employee.
    I'm a better mom.
    I'm a better student.
    (I'm a better runner).

I completely agree! I am a banker - so it's a Mon - Fri 9-5 desk job. And then I have two little ones at home. My biggest challenge has been coming to peace with the fact that me getting my "me time" to work out is a non-negotiable. Dirty dishes will sit in the sink, the laundry will sit a while longer. I work out 5 days a week. I would love to get a morning workout - but my hubby leaves for work @ 3:30 a.m. - and if I do a workout video at home...... the wee ones wake up and think it's their wake up time already. So I go everyday after work - and get home close to 7:00 p.m. The biggest KEY to my success is preparation - I don't feel guilty about my workouts and getting home late, if I already have the next day's dinner planned out/started. Otherwise I come home to a family who has eaten yet, kids that still need baths and it'sa crummy feeling. If I know they are taken care of - I enjoy my workout time. I also noticed I am pretty darn crabby if I go to long without workout out. It's cheap therapy. :)

An After Hours Hospital Manager - I mainly work 10 hr night shifts - 2200-0800h rotating days.
I am part time 32 hours per week.
My role includes a "hospital round" of 22 wards spread over 6 buildings on the campus.
This usually takes me around 2 and 1/2 hours. The rest of the time I am sat at a desk.
I walk the dog for between 45-60 mins most days.
On the weekends when I am not sleeping, my husband and I go bush walking for between 1 and 5 hours usually involving a climb uphill as he trains to walk Kokoda in August.

i work at a grocery store as a "service specialist"... aka bagger. i am on my feet 8 hrs a day 4-5 times a week. bagging groceries, helping people to their cars, pushing a train of carts (5-7 metal shopping carts, they get heavy!) back to the cart corral at the from of the store. the weather is getting warmer, so ive been sweating a ton more!

I am a stay at home mom to a 23 month old.
Right now I am doing 30 day shred, whenever i feel like it in the day I make time for it. Then Monday's at 6:15 am I attend a Zumba class while my hubby sleeps in and stays home the our baby. Then Tuesdays I attended the 8:10 am Zumba class. Wed and Thursday nights I go to Zumba at 9pm. Weekends I usually just do the shred and sometimes I try to run. I am lucky and grateful that my hubby allows me to go to any workout class as long as we can make our schedules work! :) Every now and then we get in a nice 30 min family walk :)

I'm an IT Service Manager high high stress but it means I sit for between 10-13 hours a day at a desk .. not good for weight loss !

I also have problems with my balance due a growth on my spine and so a lot of exercise types are impossible as I just end up falling over or trampling other people
So I try and make my house hold chores count ..if I can work up a sweat cleaning and get out of breath I log it and if I don't then I wont.
I also spend a lot of my free time on airfields as I fly and pushing planes around and covering and uncovering them is pretty energetic work when you are only 5ft 2 !

I am a Design Engineer for one of the fastest growing railway companies in the UK. It is a very male dominated industry! I spend 8 hours a day at my desk and hate not moving so I walk from the station to work and back. 20 minutes up hill in the morning and 20 minutes back down after work.

For the evenings my husband and I walk our 8 month old Dalmatian called Pippa. We bought her last novemeber as we love dogs and wanted something to force us to get out of the house in the evenings and on beautiful summer days. We walk her at least 40 minutes in the evenings.

On really nice days we like to cycle.

I am a computer programmer so all the requirements of the job: thinking, typing and talking on the telephone can be done sitting at a desk. I am also a dad to two young children.

Before the oldest child was born I lost 2 stone (28lbs) riding round the local forest with our dog without dieting but since the birth I have struggled to find the time for that and found I had put the weight back on.

Having seen extended family members on diets eating tiny meals and talking a strange language of points and sins I had avoided starting a diet but inspired by a friend at work who reported loosing a significant amount of weight using on-line tools I decided to take the plunge at the beginning of this month and since then I have lost 4.4kg (about 9.6 lbs) whilst still enjoying my food. In this first month I have been checking out various on-line tools and only found this site and associated phone App yesterday.

I have not given up completely on the exercise - I play with the children and I take opportunities to walk or cycle when I might previously have taken the car. It is quite interesting seeing the calorie count for different amounts of exercise and how that relates to food.
