Be born with the genetics that give you one. A thigh gap is not a measure of how skinny you are.

Have hip bones genetically that allow the thigh gap.

Most likely the only way you'll for sure get one... no matter how thin you are.

You'll get a thigh gap only if your bone structure allows it. Not everyone will, so it might be a big let down to work towards that.
Honestly, I don't get the hype.

As for general weight loss, eat less and workout more. Not to an unhealthy extent, I'd go with whatever goal mfp sets you up with (based on whatever you put in for your activity level and how much you want to lose per week).

Some people no matter how thin they get will not get the "thigh gap" as it has a lot to do with hip width and leg position withing the hip joint.

I would suggest eating at a slight caloric deficit (diet and or diet and exercise to get it) and to do strength training to ensure you lose fat and maintain lean muscle.

I have to agree with the above. Just work on lowering your body fat and being healthy. A thigh gap doesn't determine how hot you look in a bikini. A lot of thin and even athletic women do not have a gap and look amazing.

Well said!!!! I've seen some unhealthy thin women strive for a thigh gap that their bodies are NOT made to have.

Pilates, Yoga and strength training can give you slender and toned legs. - very flattering!

I got my thigh gap the same way all the Victoria's Secret models do: Photoshop. :-) Don't be too hard on yourself.

String yourself between two horses and have them pull in opposite directions.

Even if your body shape doesn't allow it, you can get emaciated enough until it happens.

If you are built to have one, you will. If you aren't, you wont. I had one at 180. I know girls that are the same height and 130 and no thigh gap......

so true, some people (including me) will never have one no matter how thin they get due to genetics / width of hip bones / angle of thigh bones etc.

it had to be said, the post implies that the gap is attainable regardless of genetics from doing exercise, when in reality its more than likely due to the poster being very underweight.

But necessary to keep someone else from attempting such extremes.

She didn't tell her to starve herself. No need to call someone out if they're dealing with issues.
