    Im from Texas. You say ma'am. Period. Even if you're the same age. I also say yes ma'am to my nieces and yes sir to my nephew. it makes them feel important and teaches them manners.

    my husband is from kansas and never said ma'am until he moved here. i still cringe when he forgets. its very rude to not say ma'am or sir around here.

    I just turned 30 and I feel like as soon as I did, everyone in costumer service world started calling me ma'am. Its hard enough to deal with the milestone of turning 30, it doesnt help the rest of the world reminding you of it. When someone calls me ma'am, it make me feel old and unattractive. :(

    I did not understand this until people started calling me Sir. I sometimes like it sometimes dont.

    I was raised saying Yes ma'am or No sir just out of respect for a person who is older than me.

    It doesn't bug me, when younger people call me ma'am and I'm only 22.
