The Wife

I worked with a guy who ALWAYS referred to his wife as 'THE WIFE". He never used her name, never said "my wife". It was always 'THE WIFE". Is this offensive the "THE WIVES" out there?

No. My husband refers to me as "the wife" to his buddies. I'm not that sensitive.

He must have multiple wives, can't keep the names straight.

For me it's TROPHY WIFE, thank you very much!!!

Yeah... I think it says a lot about the level of respect he has for her. I can't imagine my Husband constantly referring to me as "the wife" and he doesn't refer to me as a ball and chain either. Then again he's my best friend.
  • being called "the wife" doesnt bother me at all. I will never be called "my ole lady" by the BF.

my husband will refer to me as the wife, the ball and chain, old lady, or the excuse to get outta stuff he's not interested in.. Doesn't bother me..

haha what creeps me out is when his co-workers walk up to me knowing who I am, but I have no idea who they are.

People are too sensitive these days. The only thing that I think most women cringe at is calling your wife Momma. LOL.

I refer to my wife as "The Boss."

But she's only the boss because I let her.

I have a friend who refers to her now husband as "the boy". It's just how she addresses him when speaking about him to others, she doesn't mean it as demeaning, I guess with them it's some pet name or nickname or something.

If I got married and my husband referred to me to others as "the wife" I don't think I'd care. At least he'd have the guts to admit he's married and to me.

Lots of people use terms like "my old lady" or "ball and chain" and others and it's really in jest even if it's meant as a less than endearing joke. As the song goes, "the more you love someone the more you want to kill them."

My Mr. calls me "The Wife" or just "Wife" even "Babe" or "Baby". Same way I call him "My Mr.", "Husband", "Babe", etc.

When in public & we want to mess with people we refer to each other as "person I'm married to"! Always gets an odd response as people think that is said in a derogatory way when we actually mean it affectionately!

The wife, the wrench, the toaster, the ball game - apparently she's not too special.

Me on the other hand, my wife; Mary Anne is the best thing that ever happened to me in this life! But I just call her the queen, because she's royalty in my house.

Why does it matter to you? It really is about her and how she feels. 99% of the time, I called my late bride... My Bride.
  • I refer to mine as "The Ex"...is that offensive?

I refer to mine as "The D-bag"...offensive? Yes? No?
