The Wife

My favorite journalist refers to his wife as "the rib". I kinda love that one.
Aw, that's awesome0 -
My ex-husband used to call me 'the wife.' I can see how when other people say it that it could be funny, or cute, or sweet and not troubling at all. In my marriage, though, I was treated more like a possession than a person so being called 'the wife' really did bother me. He would often talk about me as though I wasn't there, sometimes with that tone that people use to talk about small children.0

Maybe the guy's just got a ton of single friends who can't seem to keep girlfriends so it's a satisfying jab to refer to her as The Wife, cuz he's got one & they don't. Maybe he's one of those weird guys who has been dreaming of getting married since he was 5 & now he is, dammit (good for him). Maybe he loves the crap out of her & can't believe that amazing woman married a schmuck like him so it makes him happy to refer to her that way. Maybe he does it intentionally to annoy you.
My husband calls me Wifey sometimes, which I'm indifferent about. He likes it, so it's fine. He doesn't seem to like it when I refer to him as #2 for some reason.0 -
My parents are Irish and they refer to eachother as 'Herself' and 'Himself'
For example. '' I'll just see what himself wants to do''
I quite like it.
We live in Switzerland where I am reffered to as Ma Femme which is the proper term to be used but translates not as 'my wife' but as 'my woman'. Lol0 -
I refer to mine as "The Ex"...is that offensive?
This is what I call mine now but he always called me his old bag:frown:0 -
I am my husband's "Old Lady" I don't mind it at all.0
-
Wouldn't bother me if the hubs said it0
-
im not married but i get called ' the missus'...i dont know why...i dont mind but if he says it in front of me - bang a punch in the face :-))) or two0
-
yes-offensive (it comes across with an "eye roll" ) IMO0
-
After 24 years, as long as he still calls me... it's all good.0
-
I get referred to as the "Ol' Lady" even though I am 2 years YOUNGER then him. He got this from my dad...that is what he calls my mom. I don't care and it doesn't bother me, he doesn't mean it in a bad way it is just conversation.0
-
I'm pretty thick skinned so it wouldn't upset/offend me at all. I call my husband "the *kitten*" to my friends/coworkers0
-
It depends on if he says it in a loving way or a derogatory way. Saying "the wife" on it's own is hardly offensive.0
-
If my husband calls me by my actual name, then I know I'm in trouble ...
So true. He only calls me "Jennifer" when hes mad about something. Other than that its a ton of different nicknames.0 -
That sounds better then "The B****"
Agreed. I would much rather be THE wife than THE *****.0 -
Nah. It seems like a comfortable term of endearment. My husband refers to me as his lady.0
-
I'm fine with it, my husband calls me the wife or wifey all the time, and we both refer to my daughter as the sprog!0
-
If my husband calls me by my actual name, then I know I'm in trouble ...
Sooooo true!!!
This.. he's either annoyed by something I did (how's that even possible), or we are meeting / around someone that we need to be more formal with.0 -
When hubby was working in an RV dealership, I was referred to by my name. Now that he works with a bunch of construction guys and builders, I am "the wife". I don't care eitherway.... he comes home to me, we have sex, and he loves me. How he refers to me to his buddies is none of my concern, since I refer to him in various manners depending on who I'm talking with (Hubs, hubby, husband, llamaboy, lump on a log, etc)0
-
Does he refer to himself in 3rd person, because that would be fantastic.0
-
If my husband calls me by my actual name, then I know I'm in trouble ...
Bahahaha! Me too!0 -
I prefer to be called 'the ol' ball and chain' personally.0
-
My husband refers to me as "my girl" I don't think I'd like "the wife"0
-
I call my SO "my hot b*tch" well, because she's a hot b*tch!0
-
nah no big deal I'm sure he's just trying to be funny. I refer to my oldest son as "the boy"
LOL! I thought I was the only one who did that!0 -
I refer to mine as "The Ex"...is that offensive?
Nice that what I call mine as well or psycho0 -
I refer to my husband as "The Husband" & I'm Babe!0
-
If I was married I would call my wife ...wifey....
One of My sisters best friends call his Wife "Wifey" I think it's really cute Lol0 -
I refer to my SO as "My Love" and he "The Empress" when talking about me or just "Empress" when adressing me.
"The Wife" sound very impersonal and disrespectful to me. But to each their own...0 -
nah no big deal I'm sure he's just trying to be funny. I refer to my oldest son as "the boy"
I do that too! I refer to my children as "the girl" and "the boy" when talking to family members. I have never said "the husband". I don't think I would be offended by being called the wife though.
"The boy" and "the girl" is how I refer to my children, as well.
I work with my father-in-law, so how I refer to my wife depends on what I'm about to say, so it's either "Your daughter" or "my wife".0
