Food you thought weren't too bad until you logged them?

Mine biggest surprise were Buffalo Wings. I mean I knew they weren't healthy but had no idea how high calorie they are esp. when you add the blue cheese dressing. What foods surprised you?

Mine was pasta. I never realized how many calories were in just 1 serving and I had been eating a lot more than 1.0

kraft mac n cheese.
I knew it was bad, but I didn't know HOW bad it really was.0 -
Some whole wheat bread. I was shocked!0

THIS and any mac and cheese... :sad:0 -
I just ordered a custom sando from a local place. Thought I did really well - sourdough bread, alfalfa sprouts, tomato, lettuce, dijon mustard, lean smoked turkey. Everything is local and organic... logged it and it's over 500 calories! Wowzers!0

Great thread - I had a real eye opener to a lot of things:
- Orange Juice - wow loaded with calories and sugar
- Cheese - had no idea how many calories were in just one ounce of Cheese
- Peanut Butter and Nutella - nut based and fairly healthy, but again - I had no idea how many calories were in just one TBSP of these - I used to habitually eat one or two TBSP of these just walking by the kitchen...0 -
I had some high quality deli turkey breast yesterday - calories ok, but I was shocked at the sodium!!!0
-
Pasta, pizza, bagels. I knew they'd be high, but not THAT high.0
-
Campbell Chunky soups...the sodium is like about 1100 a can...crazy but oh so good0
-
Ribs!! how can something with so little meat have so many dang calories?0
-
Mac and cheese from a restaurant (this happened to me yesterday). Oh and the mini burgers at Chili's. You wouldn't believe how bad those are!!!0
-
- Juice in general (so many calories for something we don't even consider 'food').
- Rice
- Pasta (I knew it was not a 'light' food, but it's quite a lot more heavy than I thought)
- Ground beef
Not that these are bad, just high in calories if you consider the volume..0 -
All fast food.......calories aren't terrible but fat and sodium content are off the charts.
I used to eat the baja salad at Wendy's thinking I was doing good......540 calories, 32 Grams of fat.....15 saturated and 1600 g sodium.....without any dressing. With the dressing I would be over my daily sodium intake with just a salad at lunch.0 -
avocado,,,,,god,,i almost fell off my chair,,haha loggon like a coffee, a bagel and an avocado,,well,,, that shocked me big time,,lol0
-
I couldn't figure out where all my sugar was coming from...turns out my organic lowfat yogurt had 98% of my sugar goal for the entire day!0

Those little Cadberry eggs they sell at Easter. I bought one and ate it thinking it prolly had like 50 - 70 calories. 170 CALORIES in one of those tiny things!0
-
Some whole wheat bread. I was shocked!
I'm with you on this one! A single slice is usually at or near 100 calories...crazy!0 -

That is just mind blowing and a perfect example of why we have so many health problems in this country - because they can market this crap as healthy alternatives - what BS0 -
heat and eat vegitarian organic lentils, the sodium was terrible ill make my own from now on0

I was amazed by this too - I have always been a bread junkie...0 -
FRUIT!!! compared to vegetables fruit is super high in calories!0
-
anything at Chili's... even the "light" dishes!0

this is why i pre-log as much as possible0

Nachos. I don't get meat on them so I figured cheese and chips will be the issues. Divide it into two meals so shouldn't be too bad. Have salsa, no sour cream. Extra veggies. There's usually not a huge amount of cheese (like pizza). I figured by be over by a bit but nothing worrying.
NOPE! One dish, divide between meals still put me way over my goals, even with exercise. OUCH. Goodbye nachos at restaurants.0 -

I had this horrible realization too! I was eating an avacado a day. ack.0 -

Avacados are "good" fats though... definitely a keeper in my diet0 -
Panera, anything from Panera0

Sushi.
Not long after I joined MFP, I went to the local Asian buffet with some friends. I thought I was making such good choices, passing up all the fried stuff and eating sushi, edamame and green beans... then I logged it, and discovered my healthy lunch was a healthy THOUSAND CALORIES!
I still eat sushi, but it now falls into the "special treat" category.0 -
Salsa! Crazy sodium in just one serving, which is only 2 tablespoons. I can balance 2 tablespoons on one chip!0
