A finger nail. It was probably fake, but still gross.

    Probably fake?

Whatever you need to tell yourself....
  • Ants...Hundreds of them in my oatmeal. I was a child and refused to eat oatmeal again..until now. I love oatmeal now. Still freaks me out though..OH once I was going to eat a mini bagel with cream cheese..teeny tiny ants in the cracks of the bagel. I don't eat bagels anymore..Or bread unless I inspect it. :grumble:

Yeah I've heard some stories. I've known lots of people who worked at grocery stores..they find all sorts of stuff in the produce shipments...local or not.

I found a pube in my curry once. Moved it to the side of the plate and ate the rest.

A friend found a slug in a salad, and was especially upset because she'd been veggie for 20 years.

Ah, I forgot to mention a live spider in my grapes. Spiders are found in grapes a lot. This one survived several days in the fridge!

Way back in the day I ordered a crunch wrap supreme from Taco Bell and there was a BEE grilled to the outside of it. I didn't realize until I got home, we drove it all the way back to Taco Bell and they tried to charge us for a replacement! I don't go there anymore! Obviously lol.

Also, a couple weeks ago I found a dead fly in my bagged lettuce from the grocery store. It was about an inch from my mouth when I noticed it. I don't buy bagged lettuce anymore!

At a restaurant in Dallas one time, a lettuce worm came out of the lettuce garnish they had put on the plate, crawled up the roll I had sitting there and raised up on it's back legs to look at me! Egad! My waitress explained that as small as it was, it probably hadn't eaten much! WTH?
More disgusting then that, a GF and I were at an all night doughnut shop one night, thankfully just having coffee and were listening to the guys in the kitchen laughing it up. We got one of them to come over to let us know what was so funny and he said they were spitting thier chew into the fryers watching it sizzle and pop! Never again!

I think we may be soul mates. Nothing would keep me from my curry.

Greco, cesar salad, almost finished when I noticed an inch long black beetle crawling around in it.

Brought the salad back, lady picked the beetle out of my salad, dropped it on the floor and squished it under her shoe, and said 'want another one?'

    I don't get Greco anymore....

I've worked in a couple of fast food places, and this doesn't surprise me. There is absolutely no training for this kind of thing. (Come to think of it, when I started my first job ever, I was put on a register with literally no training, just walked in the door and they said "here's your headset, you're on drive thru".) You put a teenager up there with no idea what they're doing and often no supervision, that's the kind of "customer service" you get.

Strange, I know, but I found a closed safety pin embedded in a Tyson's chicken breast. We took it to the local health department and I doubt much happened since it was discovered before eaten. I cannot imagine how it got there though! Weird!!! Also, I used to buy coffee every morning from this old fashioned automated machine where you made your selection then had to hold the cup under the coffee spout you preferred - black, sugar only, sugar + cream. One day I passed the machine while it was being maintained and there were 50+ dead roaches trapped near the spouts. The coffee literally passed through all of the bodies as it poured. Needless to say, I didn't use that machine (or similar ones) since but I somehow managed to remain a coffee lover. Blek! Fun topic, by the way!!

Ordered a bucket of chicken from KFC once, and at the bottom of the bucker, there was a feather still attached to the wing. Not as gross as some of these, but the thought of the feather still in there and how unclean it could have been....arrgghh!! I prefer Lee's chicken now. LOL

When I was 15/16 I worked in a sandwich shop doing cash/making the sandwiches. I'm a very clean person regarding food, so I was really grossed out when our boss forced us to serve customers bread full of baked weevils. We had workers that baked the loaves of bread fresh every morning, and apparently the flour was full of weevils, and they baked the bread with the weevils in it. I was almost in tears because I hated seeing some customers sitting there looking puzzled at their sandwich........I guess wondering what the millions of black dots were.......

when I worked at headstart they were transporting the lunch to the school I found a cockroach in the gravy. It was a good thing I whispered to the teacher about it and told her she might not want to serve the gravy. the health inspector was there went to another room for a minuet so she thanked me for catching it and saving her butt.

Once my Dad and I went to a restaurant called in a suburb of Nashville (Madison), TN to eat for Thanksgiving Day. They had the best dressing for a little dive "family style restaurant" too. I got a dirty bandaid in my dressing:(

Years later, my Dad and his wife came to visit my then husband and I in Houston, TX and I was eating a salad. I bit down on a little metal screw. It REALLY hurt, they acted like I put it in there then the salad prep person came out and apologized and said that they use these little steak knives to cut them up and one of the little screws had apparently fallen out that was in the steak knife... they offered me a free meal. I didn't want to eat at a TGI Fridays again for years!

Once my sister found a cockroach in a can of chili she was eating:( GROSS
There was a worm in a salad (in a cherry tomato) that my Mom was eating at the TGI Friday's in Nashville....

I was eating KFC coleslaw when I came across this thread and literally just threw it away because I lost my appetite lol, As for feathers still being in fried chicken...a lot would be gross yea but the occasional feather? It was deep fried, I seriously doubt any germs survived that process, pick it out and keep eating lol.
  • I found 1/2 of a bee in a salad at Arby's a couple of years ago. And yes, it looked like I had eaten the other half. Not a lot of calories in bee's, thank goodness.

    I need to see this.

I tried like 10 times to upload the pic and Its just not happening... sorry!

Years ago I worked at a Fruit & Veg suppliers. The stories I could tell.

My fav is the branch who rang to say they'd found a frog in with the bananas. They sent it back to us the next day in a jam jar well supplied with lettuce. It was a tiny little tree frog. We rang the local musium, and they came to collect it. Turned out it was a very rare type & it lived out it's days in a living exibit in the musium. It even made to local news.

I used to work in a butchers , in those days people in the shops didn't wear gloves.
I had made sausages , I had mixed the batch with my hands and as fast as I was making them they
were being sold. Earlier in the day I had cut my finger and put a bandaid on it, after the rush of customers I noticed
the bandaid wasn't on my finger. Somebody must have found their sausage extra chewy !!

Too funny. My dad is a butcher also and had this happen years ago. Except he was wrapping up meat (steaks, burger and what not) for an order. He didnt notice til the people were gone that the bandaid and gauze was no longer on his his finger. To this day he still laughs about it and what the people must have thought.

Having worked in butcher shops, grocery stores and delivering product to many restaurants over the years. I gladly avoid eating out as much as I can. I've just seen too much gross stuff in the back rooms behind closed doors
