PETA's Save the Whales campaign

PETA has always been a tad bit annoying, but this billboard is just down right offensive. How does stuff like this help with the ethical treatment of animals? How can they expect people to treat animals ethically when they can't treat humans that way? Just awful.

There's another thread out there today for this same thing. I'll stick to supporting the ASPCA!0

Yeah I saw another post on this today and watched the video clip. That's just ridiculous. Saying people that eat meat are "whales". What are those people thinking?0
-
Its PETA. They are extremists fighting for ANIMAL rights. They present the ugly truth to the masses.
"How can they expect people to treat animals ethically when they can't treat humans that way? Just awful."
This may be the most ignorant statement of the day. Congrats. What you're saying is that the treatment of animals should be negated by the way PETA campaigns vegetarianism to the public? People should be mindful of animal rights because it is the MORAL thing to do. Not because PETA is offensive or unoffensive. :noway:0 -

I think she is saying that there are different ways to promote vegetarianism other than saying people that eat meat are fat.0 -
Yes, liken me to a whale and I will become a member for sure!
It is a rude and offensive billboard and will have the opposite effect on the masses.
If the AMA states that 80% of Americans are over weight or obese, then they must only want 20% of the population to become members.
Humans first, animals second.0 -
"I think she is saying that there are different ways to promote vegetarianism other than saying people that eat meat are fat. "
I'm not seeing that anywhere in what she said, whether it be implied or not.
Its PETA for God's sake. They don't sugar coat anything. Why would you be shocked at something like this?0 -

Well good for them for not sugar coating anything, because that would make them fat. :laugh:0 -

I don't find that statement ignorant at all, not in the least...............
I am probably one of the biggest animal lovers in the world and I am working on starting a rescue in the near future..............
However, I am not a vegetarian and never will be. Never will be a vegan either.
PETA is the worst organization on the face of the earth in my opinion. Mind you, their corporate HQ is in Norfolk, VA and a couple of years ago there were PETA members that were arrested, tried and convicted of euthanizing puppies and kittens and then went across the state line to North Carolina and dumped the bodies in a dumpster.
I will also stick with my ASPCA membership and endorsement. At least they are out there doing good in the communities they serve.0 -

How is that ignorant?
I have rescued at least 100 animals in my lifetime, and this doesn't even include the baby birds or lizards I helped.
If you treat humans with respect and decency, then kindness for lesser animals follows.
What does my disagreement over a rude bill board have to do with my intelligence? Seriously.0 -
I never said I was a member of PETA, nor did I say I applaud their extremist ways. Pushing limits is what they do.
Vegetarianism is a touchy subject. I just find it hypocritical to be an "animal lover" but still be willing to consume the carcass of some poor animal who spent its short life on a factory farm, unable to live a life that every living thing deserves - to be able to play, procreate, breathe fresh air, etc. A dog or cat is no different than a pig or a cow in terms of what kind of treatment they deserve.
End of rant.0 -

So I am guessing you are a vegetarian. That is great if that's what you want. I like meat. I would eat a cow before my friend, neighbor, coworker... Have you ever hit a dog with your car? I have. Do you know how upset that made me? Do you think I would be more upset if I hit a human being with my car and killed them? Humans first, animals second. Nothing wrong with that.0 -

One of the biggest girls I know, over 200 pounds overweight, is a vegan. Won't even wear leather shoes. It is a rude and hurtful billboard.0 -

The "lesser animals" comment also sickens me. As humans,we are ridiculously into ourselves. Geeze.0 -

Maybe I agree...............but this thread is about a stupid billboard that is hurtful. NOT about whether I should eat the dead carcass of an animal.
Meat is not making us fat or you would not be here trying to lose weight, no?0 -

Well, I can only speak for myself, but I no longer consume meat that comes from a factory farm, including fish farms............
The meat I eat is farm raised, free to graze and roam around and procreate as they please..........They life their life to the fullest.
We could say the same thing about killing living plants for human consumption. After all, Plants do supply us with oxygen to live, where as animals breathe in that same oxygen that we use..........
Just playing the devils advocate here.0 -
I totally agree with what u said about people being able to eat some animals and spoil there pets. An animal is a being just as humans. I don't see what so different about these animals either.0

When my dog can pay rent, I will call her a higher being or equal. Until then, she sleeps on the floor and eats kibble.0 -

Rude and hurtful? PLEASE. Its a BILLBOARD.
I recently dyed my hair pink. If I were to come upon a billboard stating that "PEOPLE WITH PINK HAIR ARE UNATTRACTIVE", would I be hurt? No. Why? Because it doesn't MATTER what a damn billboard says.
ITS A FREAKING CAMPAIGN THAT AN EXTREMIST GROUP WHO IS KNOWN FOR OFFENSIVE MATERIAL HAS CREATED. Big deal.0 -
Also, farm raised might not mean what u think. There are really loose regulations for grass fed animals and cage free chickens. It doesn't mean there quality of life is any better and in the end the "grass fed" animals are all sent to the same horrible places that the factory farmed ones are.0

My puppies are treated as if they were my child.
They go to daycare everyday, sleep in a bed in their own room, eat a RAW diet, very rarely eat kibble, get bathed and groomed on a regular basis and have just about every toy out that they can't destroy.
I will still eat meat. There is nothing wrong with that............0 -

I consider myself an animal lover, you can't say that I'm not. I do not support "factory farms" which is why I buy my meat locally. Eating meat is a fact of life. If you choose not to that's great.0 -

Not ones I consume. I go to the farm and hand pick my animal that I want slaughtered for my consumption and the farmer slaughters it and processes it for us. It is done at his house, not at a facility.
I am fortunate and blessed to live in a rural farm area of the Midwest, where people still consume raw dairy and prepare their own meats.
I purchase very litte from a grocery store.0 -

Try doing a little research as to how those critters that end up on your plate are treated and then try telling me that its fair.0 -
Like it or not there is a food chain. Seals eat fish and whales eat seals.
Seals are wonderful creatures but should we keep the whales from eating them?
My dog of 16 years slept in my bed, and I still cry everytime I think of her.
But put her and you in a burning house, and I will save you before her.
Why? Because she is an animal. I love her but you have more value in my heart because you are human.
Now back to the bill board.....................I wonder where they got that before picture of me to post??0 -
Best PETA bumper sticker ever said "PETA: People Eating Tasty Animals"... not really related but I couldn't resist.
I'm not saying treating animals cruelly is right but you're going to kill them and eat them... everything prior to that is almost irrelevant. Almost. :devil:0 -

They didn't.0
