Yet they have no problem euthanizing cats and dogs instead of spending money to feed them and find them loving homes?

And didn't PETA want that baby polar bear whose mother died put down as well?0 -
I wonder how many PETA supporters out there own pets not rescued from a shelter or something along those lines. Breeding animals just to take a baby from it's mom so you can have a cute cuddly critter seems just as bad. Did anyone ask the mom if it was cool?
I don't think you should be judging just PETA supporters on this one. It's not that you're taking a puppy away from its mother, its that by not rescuing an animal from a shelter and buying a puppy you will support a cycle of breeding more animals while more pets die in shelters. It's an obvious thing that everyone who cares about animals should do. ADOPT A PET.
Honestly I'm just playing devil's advocate. I don't judge one way or another. I'd smash someone in the face with a 2x4 if witnessed them abusing an animal but I'm not going to support a organization that is derogatory toward anyone just to make a point either.

When I hear an animal complain, I'll stop.0 -
I'm so sad I'm going to miss 30 minutes of this entertainment while I drive home. :noway: My eyes are glued to this train wreck.
And, I kind of feel for CrystalIT - her thread got hijacked. PETA, Bear Grylls, rotting carcass, COK - when will the madness end? Hopefully not soon bc it's a great read.
Thank you!! Never meant for that comment to turn into this. Unfortunately, some people have to read what they want into things. I had to go to some meetings at work and then commute home, so I have been unable to sound in myself. I'm still trying to catch up.0 -
I mentioned that earlier in the thread (my comments got ignored)..................Plants are living creatures too. So, you might as well stop eating and start drinking water for the remainder of your days...................
But I know I feel better as a person knowing that today, I made a compassionate choice and consumed nothing that had to give its life to nourish me.
Plants don't have nervous systems. If you poke a piece of lettuce with a needle do u see any reaction? no. If you poke a pig with a needle it experiences pain. You can't compare the 20 -

 I'll take it one step further and say when I hear my steak complain, I'll stop.0 -
I take issue with the bill board.
It is offensive to the whale.

No really. I used to say someone was going to roll me back in the ocean. How many of us feel referred to ourselves as beached whales? We don't need a animal rights group to make us feel worse.
Give me a break.0 -
Question about Peta please. Does Peta allow for the humane putting to sleep of the family pet when it has a terminal illness? I honestly do not know and would like to if any person has accurate info.0

I think your voice of reason got lost in the 'your stupid' remarks of another poster.
I think you have presented your side in such a way that I would listen. Although, I watched the process of a cow being butchered, and still happily eat meat, so you will have a long road ahead of you.

So you're saying we should protect prey animals from their predators?
I'm saying that deliberately breeding animals to be eaten is animal abuse.
Ah.. got it. So as long as I hunt my own food in the wild it's cool?
I'd like to see a human hunt an animal with their bare hands and teeth
It's been done. A whole tribe of Native Americans could drive a herd of animals over a cliff by spreading out in a line and making noises, panicking them and sending them to their deaths, all without ever lifing a knife (and fork) to get the job done.
Could you imagine 305 million people trying to go hunting every time they ran out of meat? There wouldn't be an animal left on the continent. If I'm food for some other animal (which I am), then some other animal can be food for me. I eat meat, and I'm losing weight. The sign is propaganda to be ignored.0 -
Anyone ever see the South park episode where they make fun of PETA? It was hilarious!

As far as the billboard's implication that vegaterianism is healthier than being an omnivore, it is misleading. Vegaterian does not equal healthy OR thin.0 -

I had the most wonderful cheese and mushroom pizza tonight.
Fun Fact: I eat very little meat. I don't like the taste, except for a nicely cooked filet mignon maybe once or twice a year.
Now, creatures of the sea... those are a different story. I could eat seafood EVERY MEAL. And you wanna talk about unethical treatment? How about boiling crabs and lobsters alive? Forget the cow!
I need to wipe the drool off my chin.... Lobster and drawn butter.... *salivating*0 -

By defending PETA it almost seems like you don't mind being called a whale since by your own profile you want to lose 'blubber'. You may not have a problem with it but apparently some others do, myself included.0 -

I don't like PETA....i say that in previous posts. I think they are offensive and rude. I think the billboard is ridiculous too! I hate their campaigns with naked women and their stupid sexual adds.
I'm a vegan and I hate PETA. lol0 -
I just had to pop in here and say, before I head home to my dinner of BEEF, that I got a call while reading this thread asking me how I wanted my 1/2 pork processed. Oh, and my father-in-law will be delivering 1/4 beef later this week - farm raised, on our own ranch. (Well, their ranch  ) The billboard that started this post is awful - and the responses to that statement were wrong. Each person gets to make the choice to eat meat or not to eat meat - being rude and condescending will never get your point across! And shock tatics never work - as will be witnessed if the people who value animals over humans bother to read this. :smokin:
Yep - I gotta get that bumper sticker People Eating Tasty Animals!0 -

Now that all the drama is over, I finally get a chance in my day to revisit this. *****cat, I do hope you check back on this thread. You twisted my statement and implied that I advocated animal cruelty and am angaist vegetarianism and veganism. Neither is true.
I have 2 dogs, 2 geckos, and 2 mice in my house. I have campaigned locally to improve animal abuse laws. I have volunteered countless hours at our Humane Society. I have fostered animals in my home. However, I do still view them as lesser animals than humans. I just don’t believe that they should be mistreated because of that. I guess the difference is in the way we define abuse. I am not a vegetarian because I personally can not sustain a healthy diet that way. I know some people can, but I have tried and it just isn’t the correct diet for me. My other problem with PETA is their misinformation campaigns about how the ONLY way to be healthy, lose weight, and keep it off is through vegetarianism (although I’m sure they would rather push veganism). That is simply not the truth. Vegetarianism is only as healthy as the effort you put into it, just like any other diet.
I don’t have a problem with a vegetarian diet. I don’t care what a person’s reason for choosing that it. But if you are doing it for animal rights, how far do you take it? Where do you stop at cutting things out of your life? Do you happen to drive or even ride in a vehicle? Most tires (car or bike) contain animal products. Do you walk everywhere in your vegan shoes? I believe under the way you have it defined, anything else would simply be abuse.
My problem really was simply that the billboard was in bad taste. I think we all can agree to that whether or not you want to define PETA's use of it. I understand why they did it, that's why I don't involve myself in that organization. I'll go with my local, home-grown Humane Society any day.0 -
Well said Crystal. Bet you didn't think the thread would have evolved the way it did when you posted it.0

No. Dang it!
We're teaching our bulldog to ride-it's the funniest thing!0 -
Well the billboard is doing exactly what it's purpose was: to get attention- negative or positive it comes across...Ever heard the saying "any attention is better than no attention" Thats whats happened here.0

Man... I missed all this while I was at home preparing enough pork chops, burgers, and chicken for 20 people :ohwell:0
