So lemme get this straight. According to some Animal rights folks on here, the billboard is fine, because its just a sign. But I use a quote...and its offensive to you. You all need to take some debate lessons or something.

Am I sensing some hypocrisy here?

  • Where did you come from and why did you jump in with this? :| You CAN lose weight by nixing meat, just as you can lose weight by nixing ice cream or whatever else it is you might eat in excess. A calorie is a calorie.

Seriously? Where did I come from??
    That was your best defense?

    WHAM............POW..............SHAZAAAM!!

Well sweetie, it wasn't a "defense" as I do not feel I am being attacked. It was more a jab at your reluctance to read what I actually wrote, and your need to quickly jump in with fluff.

I read everything you wrote. It was illogical. Your point was not eating meat enables you to lose weight. The same point could be made that only eating meat and nothing more will enable you to lose weight. And on a public forum, anyone is allowed to "jump in".

No babydoll, I was explaining PETA's intent, not my own views on being vegetarian and losing weight. Good try though. E for Effort.

I don't like the billboard or the quote. I was just pointing out that there is no need to use an offensive and irrelevant quote.

AshBear, hey its cool. I'm starting my own campaign. Check out my signature, jump on board. Everyone is doing it.
  • I wonder how many PETA supporters out there own pets not rescued from a shelter or something along those lines. Breeding animals just to take a baby from it's mom so you can have a cute cuddly critter seems just as bad. Did anyone ask the mom if it was cool?

I don't think you should be judging just PETA supporters on this one. It's not that you're taking a puppy away from its mother, its that by not rescuing an animal from a shelter and buying a puppy you will support a cycle of breeding more animals while more pets die in shelters. It's an obvious thing that everyone who cares about animals should do. ADOPT A PET.

Honestly I'm just playing devil's advocate. I don't judge one way or another. I'd smash someone in the face with a 2x4 if witnessed them abusing an animal but I'm not going to support a organization that is derogatory toward anyone just to make a point either.

LMAO. Dude. Love it. But if humans are animals, is eating a Vegan still saving an animal?

Its all in how much you eat not what you eat. I could eat mac and cheese all day long with sour dough bread and gain a ton of weight if I was eating the wrong amounts. Its about portion control and choosing the right amounts of carbs protein and fat. (We all see the site ya?) You can get all of these with or without meat.

Being a vegetarian doesn't mean you will lose weight if you eat the wrong foods. Otherwise Mac and cheese here I come! (By the bucketful!)

Thanks Sweetpea, but in the future, you might want to make clear your views versus views of those you are defending, least you sound like you are backpedaling later. A for Asinine.

But I haven't seen too many of them and I love eating vegan (But I'm not one...give me a prok chop anyday) Lots of restaurants around me serve vegan and the people in their scare me :noway:

I'm a vegan and I know atleast 30 others and none of us look sick. It's easy to get protein as a vegan....that's the least of my worries.

Believe me I'm not judging anyone here///just an observation of the vegans I've seen and known personally. The one I kniw I even suggested eating more protein and they declined. (not in the form of meat of course- but life tofu and stuff)

I would think that we've advanced from the laws of the jungle. For us, its not MIGHT over RIGHT as it is for the wild critters. What happens within the animal food chain isnt up to me or you. Yeah, if I were to witness a coyote coming after a rabbit, I might do what I could to protect the rabbit infront of me. Only because I would feel terrible seeing it die. But hey, a coyote's gotta eat and there will be another bunny around the corner.
But I know I feel better as a person knowing that today, I made a compassionate choice and consumed nothing that had to give its life to nourish me.

The meaning behind the billboard is not "Hey! You eat meat! That totally makes you a fatty!"

its more "lose weight by going vegetarian", in a not so sugarcoated way.

    ... which is totally inaccurate.
    I hate that myth.

I agree. I was actually at my highest weight when I was a vegatarian (and for a while there vegan)

Its not a myth. Plenty of people go vegetarian and lose weight. It all depends on what you're stuffing in your mouth. If you cut out meat, but replace it with a bag of potato chips a day, yeah, you're gonna gain weight.

    No no no no no.
Vegetarianism does NOT equal weight loss.
Don't try to play that card.
You are still saying heathly eating = weight loss/ healthy weight.
Meat or no meat. Healthy eating.

Where did you come from and why did you jump in with this? :| You CAN lose weight by nixing meat, just as you can lose weight by nixing ice cream or whatever else it is you might eat in excess. A calorie is a calorie.

Ok... so this has nothing to do with the billboard, but you are attacking some of the nicest people on here! Jeannie and Lauryn are two of the nicest people in the world, with only kind things to say to people. Almost any comment anyone else on here has made, including Chrissy and Kityngirl has been slammed by you. I'm sure I will be slammed too, but I just felt I had to stand up for my friends (not that they haven't been standing up for themselves). I hear you saying you're being attacked, and that may be so, but I think you've been asking for it with the way you're responding to people.

All I know is that if a billboard has the ability to make you feel better or worse about yourself, you've got MUCH bigger issues on your plate than being overweight.

It certainly doesn't. But if you are trying to turn my head yelling FAT *kitten* will work-but will it change my way of thinking??

Isn't the idea to help us understand and make better choices?

IDK....maybe I am missing something here.

PETA is about getting the information out there in whatever fashion they deem appropriate. Feelings are of no concern to PETA - atleast not those of other humans.

Most PETA supporters are whackjobs who believe riding a horse is evil...

Yet they have no problem euthanizing cats and dogs instead of spending money to feed them and find them loving homes?
