    men read books.

    what men don't seem to do is organize a "book club" for a bunch of other people to come over and talk about the book they read (actually, my mother is in a book club and when she and her friends meet, i'm not sure the book is discussed at all).

    Haha! Book Clubs are social gatherings for appetizers and drinks and gossip! LOL

    We have several men in the book club I used to go to. They always chose the best books, too.

    Lol, whenever sports is on, I don't read......................my wife does. I think it 's more of a past time the females like to do rather than watch their SO's yell at the TV.

    My husband doesn't read fiction, but when we moved into our house six years ago, we moved LITERALLY 200 boxes of books. That's probably doubled now. We collect. :)

    I am a library worker, working toward a Master in Library Science and I eventually want to earn my Ph.D in Reading Literacy & Research. I can't deal with a man who doesn't read. It's a huge turnoff.

    My husband definitely does not read as much as me, but he reads more quality stuff, such as philosophy vs. my favorite cheap fiction/horror/scifi. One of my best friends (a guy named Rock), on the other hand, will go to the book store and sit down and read like four scifi/fantasy novels in one sitting, and not buy a single one.

    I think it's a cheap shot to say "guys don't read", but most of them are like you, not as open about it. Even Rock, who digests massive amounts of scifi, won't start a conversation about it. He waits for someone else to mention it first before he sings praises of his favorite authors.

    I read a lot of books but none of them are fiction.

    I have read thousands of books. Quite literally. And the ones I've liked I've read repeatedly. I am an addictive reader. If it has print on it, I'll read it. Anything. Warning labels for birth control, my son's happy meal box, doesn't matter. My son is seven and has already read hundreds of books.

    My wife on the other hand barely reads. It irritates me when she starts a series because I want to read it, but have to wait until she finishes the series. Once she was reading a series and I read the first, second, third, and fourth book while she was meandering through the fifth one. And then I read the fifth book while she was reading it too. That one pissed her off. Now she hides her books from me.

    I only have 16 books in the "to read" stack. Might be time to hit B&N again.

    I am a re-reader too. There are some books that I love that I read every few months.

    I read a ton. Right now, I've got like 4 or 5 books in progress and two Kindles that get a bit neglected. There's just something about a paperback that gets me - maybe it's nostalgia, I'm not sure.

    I also listen to audiobooks when I drive - usually non-fiction stuff to hone various work / life skills.

    I honestly believe that reading is something that has set me apart from others I have grown up with. We've gone somewhat different routes when it comes to our careers and personal developments.

    Also, the book was better than the movie. Just saying. :)

    Also if there is anyone on this thread who can make it over to Baltimore MD on a weekend- they should check out Book Thing. You can go into there warehouse and walk out with as many FREE book as you want. No cost whatsoever.

    I've read at least 50 books per year for the past 20 years. Most of those years I have read closer to 100 books.

    I read frequently. A mental workout is just as important as a physical one. Currently, I am rereading Gladiator by Philip Wylie and still think it is amazing

    My husband reads constantly. Sometimes I think he's having an affair with his Kindle. In fact, pretty much every man I've ever dated seriously, and all of my close male friends are readers. So this may just be your group of friends?

    My husband and I fight over who is going to read which series next. We are book hoarders :) and are in the middle of 3 different series. Look for book clubs near where you live :) You may be surprised.

    I often wonder why I reread, when I've got a list of many that I want to read, why do I go pick up an old favorite instead?

    You're not alone. My bf reads loads of books mainly fantasy, sci fi, action sort of books. I also know a few other men who read quite a lot.

    In comparison, while I quite like to, I don't actually read much at all.

    I'm with this guy. Some books in my collection I've read 17 times. Some I reread almost yearly because they speak to me differently as I've (hopefully) grown during the year.

    OK, no one has answered the tired question. Don't you get tired? I just can't read that much. I enjoy it when I can, but if I sit down to read, I'm usually asleep within 30 mintues. Whereas I can watch TV unendlingly for hours without falling asleep.

    My brother, boyfriend and nephew all enjoy reading but I do think women and girls tend to enjoy reading more often than men and boys.

    I didn't used to but I do a lot lately. I think it's age. I start reading and fall asleep after a few pages anymore. It sucks. I used to read 2-3 novels a week and now I can't stay awake to read one a week usually!

    I read like 3 to 5 pages, and then fall asleep, regardless of how good the book is. Happens every time to me. So, it's hard for me to read. It's easier to watch TV.

    I know some women will come home from work, sit down, and read. I'm like, I'd be out like a light in 3 minutes.

    No, don't get tired and it's a good job really, because if I did I would probably crash the plane

    Both my partner and my 14 y.o. son read almost as voraciously as I do.

    My husband is a constant reader. Our house is overflowing (I love to read, too).

    My father always made time to read. He was a hardworking man, but he always read on the weekends. My mother, on the other hand, was not an avid reader, although she enjoyed it sometimes.

    My husband's father and brothers are also big readers. So, no it's not a women's thing at all.

    I have fallen asleep reading before but only when I was exhausted. Normally if I start reading at night next thing I know its 1 am and I'm like oh *kitten* I have to be up in 5 hours. If I put the TV on in my room and lay down however I give it 30 minutes tops and Im out cold.

    OK, I'm going to give it more of an effort. I defintely have time to read, I just dont because I get tired and fall asleep. But, I'll give it more of an effort and see how it goes. LOL.

    I love to read- read books all the time as a kid and still do although not as often.

    Wife hates to read- daughter loves to read- I think it's just a personal preference.

    Nope, I can read for hours and I usually am reading a couple or three books at a time and I listen to a lot of audiobooks when I'm at work or the gym.

    Back on topic I come from a family of readers. My dad is a voracious reader, one of my sons reads constantly and my ex-husband is a big reader. I know as many men readers and I do women readers.

    I don't think it's a woman thing, I think it's a smart person thing :) My fiance likes to read science and history books. I'm not sure I could really date a guy that doesn't like to read, because I like smart nerdy guys. To me, seeing a guy absorbed in a good book is a turn-on.

    Usually means he's not bugging the crap out of me while I am trying to read a book!
