Someone threatened me

I have never spoken a word to this man. I was taking pictures and he thought i was taking a picture of him. Thats when he spewed all that crap to me. I have seen this man trying to break into my neighbors house before. Those are the only times I have seen him.
1. I cannot move. I cannot afford it
2. I did nothing wrong. Wrong place at the wrong time.
3. There are only 4 patrol cars in my town. Since I live in a **** neighborhood they are around but sometimes it takes 30+ minutes to get them to my house.
4. I haven't had much luck with police officers. The one I spoke with today was one of the better ones.
5. I can't afford the gun or classes. I am unemployed.
How do you afford a house, phone or internet if you are unemployed?
Inappropriate question, but she could have savings or be collecting unemployment benefits. It's not relevant to the problem.0 -

wrong place, wrong time...chalk it up to a life lesson to be more aware of your surroundings and move on.0 -
CHL classes offer that kind of training.
Not really. Most of the class in my husband's CHL class could barely hit the target at the qualifying range.
To the OP. Getting in his face would be a bad idea, it will only make things worse. People say stupid things they don't really mean. I'd say be careful, leave lights on around the outside of your house, and watch your dog closely, but I wouldn't recommend buying a gun.0 -
Check the laws in your area before you buy a taser or pepper spray or mace. Some areas do restrict what you can carry.
while this is true, you can always get bear or dog spray, it is relatively the same thing.
i would rather be charged with carrying a weapon than be assaulted. thanks.
Oh absolutely, but the point was to check the laws in order to get around them. If bear spray is fine while pepper is not, go bearspray, for example. I'm all for right of self defense and if the laws are so stupidly restrictive that it means breaking them, I say go for it, but if there is wiggle room and loopholes, use them.0 -

i know this was just a question, but if it is not an inquisitive question and more of an attack, you are totally ignorant. people in poverty, or underemployed, or unemployed, can acquire benefits from the government and/or have assistance from their family, or savings.
Hey just asking a question - to me this whole conversation seemed kinda fake, I have looked at her profile and in one she has lived in switzerland and has a big yard, with chickens and garden so if she has all this how can she be living in a bad neighborhood? I'm just confused0 -
I don't understand why he wouldn't be dangerous just because he's not in a gang. It's good you didn't get in his face, that could have made it worse. I agree with the gun idea just because I was raised around the "Make My Day" law. As far as police, you need to talk to them again. Maybe you need to request to talk to someone higher? That sounds almost like a rape threat to me. OOOH and keep some Bear Spray handy!!0

So a man threatened me today.
This is what he said
"I'm gonna show you my c**k you stupid b**ch. You don't know me. I have a gun. I'll shoot you. Go call the police you b**ch" and that is when the cops showed up.
However, the cops said that since he wasn't affiliated with a gang I shouldn't worry. They didn't even bother filling out a police report. Now, as a female when someone says they are going to shoot me, I consider this a threat.
I feel like I should have done more. Should I have gotten in his face? Should I have made threats back? This man lives in my neighborhood and I fear he is going to try something. Whether it be poisoning my dog, hurting me or destroying my property.
What could be done about this?
A. If this is true, and an officer of the law "dismissed" this allegation, that officer has willfully and wantonly violated both his sworn oath, and his duty under the law. You need to go to his supervisor, and run it up the ladder until it is addressed.
B. I'm not an expert on California law, however what you described constitutes assault in most states. Period. Not "kinda." Not "sorta." It's a crime. There are no provisions in most statutes that incorporate "ability to effectuate" into the crime of assault. In other words, the threat itself is the crime... not the individual's ability to act on the threat.
C. Ignore anyone here that posts anything to the effect of, "Just shoot him..." They clearly have absolutely no idea what the *kitten* they're talking about.
D. Regarding self-defense, guns, etc... read this MFP article... 8 Myths about Self-Defense Training. I know the author personally. He wreaks of awesome.
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/639236-8-myths-about-self-defense-training
E. Ignore anyone here that claims "retraining orders" are ineffective. Again, they clearly have no idea what they're talking about. Retraining orders, Orders of Protection, Protection Orders, etc. serve a specific legal purpose. They clearly indicate, on a court record, that you have expressed concern about another person's ability and intent to physically harm you.
Good luck.

You're only 28. Where are the men in your life? Dad? Big Brother? Male friends?
I have 3 daughters. One of them is your age. They would have come to me with this issue and I would have taken care of it.
Reach out to someone.

Carry hot sauce on you. Then if he pulls it out, sprinkle the hot sauce on it. Guarantee he drops the gun.

For $75, you can get yourself a pretty pink stungun, and support a great cause: http://www.beststungun.com/pink-stun-guns.html. Although, you WILL probably have to move, after stunning him. He'll likely be even MORE pissed off.0

A gun is a bad idea. Unless you have training you are going to miss and maybe get shot. Depending on the state there are lots of options. You can try giving the Guardian Angels a call. http://www.guardianangels.org/chapters.php
Obviously if she's going to get a gun, classes in how to shoot would happen, or should happen. Gun's are not a bad idea. They aren't the things that kill people, people do. And if that guy does have a gun, it's much more efficient to have a gun yourself. Try and knife the guy, or some other thing, and your giving him a great opening to shoot you without missing. I say don't confront him, because that will make matters worse, threatening or doing anything back at him, will make matters worse. TRY and stay away from him. GET a GUN! Especially if you KNOW he's breaking into peoples houses. It's more than likely he will try to break into yours next. If you don't know how to use a gun, take some classes on it, and get someone to teach you how. Get a concealed license if it's available in your state. You have a right to protect yourself. Learn how you can.0 -
I would say pepper spray on the key chain and or a big angry dog to keep you company when you're out and about.
sheesh what is wrong with people0 -
restraining order or you can go get training with a hand gun at a range and get a license to carry a gun. thats about all i can think about and getting a gun to keep in your home or car is not a bad thing as long as your have the right paper work for it we have guns in our house and when my family is out of town i like knowing that if god forbid something happens and i have to protect my daughter and my self i can.0

Nope, but last I checked, hotsauce never killed anyone, no matter where it was applied.0 -
Haha. Stupid Cops don't want to do their jobs. Sorry for anyone who is a Police Officer..... The ones here in AZ are idiots, LAZY! They do it for the badge and the "respect".... I suggest going to a different station in the area and report the officer. They do this all the time, ignore one "idle threat"... then what happens, a week later they find the girl murdered lying in a ditch. *kitten*, report the lazy a** cop and report the idiot doing the threats. Go to the higher up people.0

You should have said, what are you waiting for, flop it out and lemme see what you got. Then when his hands are full of pants and penis, kick him on the inside of his knee and run like youve been training to do.0

I usually do not comment on posts but this one reminds me why I do not live in big cities. Guns, pepper spray, and self-defense training are all good advice however being on a limited income go to your local store and buy a can of Wasp spray, it has a greater range than pepper spray, more accurate and a heck of a lot cheaper. I know a big can but hey you won't have to be that close to nail him in the eyes. Talk to the police again and give them all the information you know of him also ask about free self-defense classes. Good luck and stay alert!0

in the town my father grew up in(ill not metion its name) if your neighbores found out about this gie they would burn his house to the ground for you.....but thats niether here...but defanitly still there... get the restraining order and a big mean dog, possibly a gun to...and ask your neighbores to keep an eye out for him good luck, also get a lawer0

An explanation of why not would leave a more lasting impression more than , because I said so0 -
Is this a real thread or just a troll. I find this hard to believe.0

I live in a bad neighborhood and a lot of people have big gardens and chickens....how is that not conductive to her living in a bad neighborhood?0 -
Restraining orders are only there to tell the cops that hey, this guy was not supposed to come near her. I have seen these things work almost zero times. The only thing that these guys understand is staring down the barrel of a 38 or a black belt. Shove his $@#S into is throat.
As someone who lived with someone like this, I agree. I don't know what your laws are like but when I tried to get a restraining order on my ex after he threatened to shoot me and the kids, the police told me that they couldn't do anything until he actually did something physically to me. Makes a whole lot of sense after the fact, doesn't it? Concealed weapons are illegal here (he had guns for hunting) but if someone threatened me like that now, I'd invest in some bear spray. Much more effective and easier to use in a stressful situation.0 -
1. Take your shotgun
2. Point it in his face
3. If he advances or threatens you again, pull the trigger0 -
I would fill out an affidavit and pursue as much as you can. I don' t know how far you can go with that.
I recommend signing up for a Conceal Carry class (especially if you can find one that caters to women), and getting your license and a conceal carry firearm. I personally carry a .38 snub nose Smith & Wesson Airweight. It's a revolver with an internal hammer--so it's easy to use and clean. If you buy a pistol like this, please have a gunsmith lighten the trigger pull to where you are comfortable. It still needs to have somewhat of a heavy pull, but you don't need to feel like a weight lifter trying to shoot it.
If you feel comfortable carrying a larger firearm, you can try semi-auto pistol in 9mm, 40 mm, or 45 mm. Of course, the 45 mm is going to have the most knock-down power, but you also have to be able to handle the recoil. If you sign up for the class, ask the instructor if you can try these different firearms or ask the store where you will be purchasing one. You need to be comfortable with what you choose, and you may or may not need custom work done on a semi-auto pistol, such as an extended magazine release, so that you can reach the button.
If you really want to learn the most you can about shooting a pistol, see if you can attend a Babes with Bullets camp:
http://babeswithbullets.com/
Even if you're not interested in competing in the shooting world, the skills you learn in camp apply to so many other things. They do show you how to do a basic tear down and cleaning on a Smith and Wesson M&P 9 mm pistol. If you go to them, I would recommend asking them or the instructor in your conceal carry class to teach you how to shoot a shotgun, and I would buy and keep a shorter barrel shotgun as your primary home defense weapon.
If your state has anti-Second Amendment tendencies toward the conceal carry laws and you don't want to mess with it, then at least learn how to shoot a shotgun and keep one in your household.0 -
I forgot to mention that sometimes Babes with Bullets offers discounts and/or scholarships.0
-
File a restraining order, insist on a police report and get all of this documented so you can proceed legally.0
-
Sounds like me that the officer you talked to didn't want to do his/her job. I would call the police department (not 911), and speak to the shift supervisor. It would help if you have the officer's name and badge number to report him/her and the incident. What you were referring to is Terroristic Threatening. My husband would also agree about getting a gun/concealed carry permit. He has his and has been on me for years to get mine (I'm a social worker/probation officer). I'd have to say if that happened to me, I probably would too. I don't like guns but at the same time, I understand we live in a crazy world and people need to protect themselves!0
