In America, virtually all cooking sprays are 0 or near 0 calories. Just use the lowest you can find.0 -
Don't know if this question was asked before but : Have you ever tried to dry fry non tofu based Shirataki noodles ? These are a little more rubbery ( and close to 0 calories ) so i'm wondering how it turned out0

Hundreds of times-- and they benefit greatly from the process, as well...!

They don't have a fishy taste just a fishy smell once you open the package. But it all goes away after you wash them, no after taste left. I wouldn't be able to eat them if i couldn't wash it off.0 -
I must be a weirdo cause I like the taste, smell & texture of them. I just give them a quick rinse with cold water then chuck em in with a stir fry veg mix, some king prawns & a bit of tamarind sauce. I eat them wet rather than dry but might give dry frying a try & bring them to work for lunch one day.0

Sad to say after trying lots of different ways and lowering amounts and so on it appears I really am 'intolerant'

How sad! (
I don't know how I'd maintain my weight without them...
Check out my amazing cauliflower mashed potato recipe as a great way to stay full on only a few calories:

So if you have to order shirataki noodles online you'll only be able to get them without the tofu since there is no way to refrigerate them on the way to you
Great post. Lots of info. One teensy weensy correction. You can have tofu noodles shipped to you. They just pack them with dry ice. I have had steak, fish, all kinds of perishables shipped. Just FYI.0 -

One of my other secret favorites is instant miso soup and then I ad spinach and more seaweed. Works out at about 40 cals a bowl and I have one or two a day and it really stops me from over eating0 -

Good to know!
At the time I wrote the original post I was unable to find anyone who shipped the tofu shirataki noodles. I'm glad that's changed!
I usually buy both kinds. I prefer the tofu shirataki but oftentimes like to prepare the zero calorie noodles when every calorie matters.
Thanks for the updated info!

See e.g. (certainly not the best deal or anything, just for example) http://www.amazon.com/Tofu-Shirataki-Noodles-Spaghetti-Shape/dp/B000AQFQC6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1347234161&sr=8-2&keywords=tofu+shirataki+noodles The shipping is $10.90 because it is shipped expedited with the ice packs. But, there are LOTS of places that sell and ship them online.0 -

I ordered some to try again your way. I remembered a bag of kelp noodles in the back of the fridge that I had bought to try but then chickened out. I took them out and did just like you do with the shirataki noodles. They aren't like rubber bands as I remembered the miracle noodles being like. The texture was more like spaghetti squash. Is that how the miracle noodles are like when you fix them your way? I can deal with that. Have you tried kelp noodles? If so are they about the same?
I've never had kelp noodles (although I've looked for them) so I can't really compare. If you were to cross the texture of cooked pasta with a raw mushroom I think that would get you close.
If you're very sensitive to texture you should mix other textures with the shirataki noodles, like bok choy, bean sprouts, water chestnuts, etc.
Also, try the tofu shirataki instead of the non-tofu shirataki. They're a little closer in texture.

your post cracked me up!! I have to admit I saw the shirataki noodles in the store took one poke at the bag and didn't even think about buying them. Yes I did poke the bag they seemed a little weird to me. I decided to quote this particular thread because I LOVE KELP NOODLES! I use them to make a thai peanut chicken dish! I find kelp noodles are almost always better the day after because sitting in the sauce softens them up! perhaps now that I know to dry fry the shiratki noodles I can give them a try. Thanks Chelle!0 -
i actually bought these last week before seeing this thread. I wasn't sure what they even were, but they had 20 calories so I had to try it.
After reading this thread and a few recipes online, I rinsed them, then fried them with a tablespoon of olive oil. Threw in some home grown chopped tomatos, basil, and chopped olives.
My first bite, I thought, "hmmm. rubbery"
My second bite, I thought, "no, not rubbery... good"
THen I ate the whole thing and was full and it was like 100 calories.
Today I bought 2 more bags.0 -

Groupon for shirataki noodles though it doesn't seem that the pricing may be that good unless you can't find them near you.
