it also depends if some people got in shape right after they had their kid(s) and if they were in shape before.

how many of these people got in shape within a year of having a kid, how many were overweight for 5-10 years (or longer)?

I am 48 with a healthy range BMI of 22.9 and fat % of 24. Both my girls (now 25 & 19 years old) were unscheduled (baby going into distress, luckily not emergency) c-sections . I have good and bad news. First the good. The stretch marks will FADE! Even though they do not go away completely they will not be as noticeable. Now for the bad (at least in my case). The flap does not go away without surgery. I've looked into having it done but choose to wear it as a badge of honor instead. I've lost all the weight several times and maintained the loss for long periods of time and at the best it is a fatty flap of skin over the scar. I am just happy that mine is not very big (about 5 inches across) and below the bikini line.

You do give me inspiration. My body looks very similar to your before photo. (And I am currently at 170lbs.) How tall are you if you dont mind me asking? And do you workout/diet?

I'm sure its because I was way overweight for so many years, but I've had 2 c-sections, and the more weight I lose, the further down my belly seems to hang..lol ugh! I hope it will improve over time, I still have a lot more weight to lose.

After my second c-section I lost it all in 5 months of hard working out! However, that pouch took until about 7 months to get off and it did want to stay! My picture is at 7-8 months post partum of my second c-section. She just turned 9 months though this Friday. Not a big scar, no stretch marks, and no more pudge down their. I do notice I tend to get more bloated though around my time of the month then when I did prior but that is about it. I went down in weight but that was intentional... I wanted to actually lose a little bulky muscle I had however I am packing on some lean muscle and toned muscle now. I am still looking to lose 1 more inch in my waist and my thighs but really my body is about what it was before.

This one is a little old too. I am much more cut... and tan! :) I need to take a new pic!

I've also had a csection.. I had twins in 2005. Gained over 80 lbs... I have a large pouch, alot of skin over hang, and what has 'tightened' up is all shrivelly looking... I am trying really hard to just accept that it's with me for life (unless I get sx) but it's hard... I feel you!

EXACTLY!!! I try everyday to accept it, but being very thin when I was in highschool, and seeing myself now is just so depressing. And I feel like it doesnt have to be AS bad as it really is. Throughout some of my weight loss, my stretch marks are beginning becoming 'shrivelly' as well. Thats a perfect word for what has happened. Lol.
  • WOW! I am a mother of 3 also! 11, 9 and almost 2yr old... I feared that the "skin" or "pouch" might not ever go away but you look fantastic! thanks for giving a gal hope !!! :)

Thank you!! I'm 5'3". I generally do a couple days of HIIT on the treadmill each week, and one day of a long run, plus 3 days of heavy strength training and sometimes I take a cardio kickboxing class at my gym (I wind up going maybe once a week to once every couple weeks). As for diet, I eat pretty clean and stay away from grains/breads/pasta--only bc they upset my stomach. My macros are set at 40% protein, 30% carbs, and 30% fats, and I stay around 1400 cals a day. Feel free to take a look at my diary!

Oh and another poster asked a good question, regarding if people lost weight right after pregnancy/were in good shape prior to etc. For me, I was about a size 4 before I got pregnant, but not because I was in good shape, I was just young and had a good metabolism. I didn't really watch what I ate or work out regularly, so I was pretty much the definition of "skinny fat." I gained about 70 lbs during pregnancy, lost 30 pretty quickly but gained back about 10-15 of that weight over a couple years and just stayed at my heaviest, ,170 for a while until I started working on it this past January. My son is 5, will be 6 in November. It DEFINITELY would have been easie (and a LOT smarter) if I'd been in good shape before or starting working at it right after pregnancy!

You can get there! All it takes is ALOT of determination. Well mostly stubbornness of saying NO! I will workout, I will eat right, and I will do my ab workout every day or at least every other day and most of all I will get my tummy back. Will power baby! My tummy was arguing back with me for a long time and I wasn’t gonna have it. Even dropped all the weight but still the pouch at 5 months was there. At that point I told it that It was going back whether it liked it or not, either the easy way or the hard way I wasn’t gonna let it win! Mommy won!  Still need a little more though then I am out!

I'll gladly keep the stretch marks if I could just get rid of the belly hang.

it also depends if some people got in shape right after they had their kid(s) and if they were in shape before.

how many of these people got in shape within a year of having a kid, how many were overweight for 5-10 years (or longer)?

I don't have a picture up, but my is getting smaller; my kids are 6 yrs apart.

Before my first kid, I didn't care about working out, but I did weigh 145# and was a size 8. During my first pregnancy, I had so many complications I was order to bed rest--the day after giving birth, I weighed in @ 145, but was a size 11/12...so you can see the BF% growth.

During the 6 years before kids, I let myself go and didn't recover (highest size 14 tight), until a year before my second pregnancy (got down to size 12 tight, 155#). My highest in October was 181ish#, size 14 tight, then I got serious--so about 8 mo after my 2nd pregnancy.

Today I am about a couple of lbs away from prechildren weight, size 11/12 comfy. My BF% is 34% (my goal is 23%), and my pooch has been starting to tuck in as I have been losing weight, not hanging or turning into a flap.

I'll post a pic later when I have some time to take a picture. It may not be a success yet, but it is looking good in the transition phase and might be encouraging to those you have waited a while after having kids. In my opinion, my loose skin is starting to tighten.

Just, Please, no harsh words, I don't want to cause drama by this post. :ohwell:

PS: I have also heard it depends on genetics and in my case my mom is a size 4 and in shape with still a big bulge. So, we will see about that factor.

    Hi
I am new in this group and hanging ,flabby , stretch marks are starting to be a concern.
After making some researchs I started Organic Sulphur and dry brushing everyday.

So the question is for people who lost a consequent amount of weight (110-120):

Does it work or do you really need to go for a surgery to get a flat belly.

    Please say yes yes .....

Marcillene – I gained 28 pounds my first pregnancy and 22 on my second. At my highest weight I only weighed 118 pounds before pregnancy but usually averaged around 115. I was only at 16-18% body fat and I had a lot of muscle. I played sports a lot. I am down to 108 pounds and keep jumping from 17.7-18.4% body fat. So I actually weigh less then I did before however have more body fat and less muscle. I only am 5'1 and have a REALLY small frame thus the c-sections so my tummy was wayyy out there! Way out there! I have always played sports and always try to keep in shape before, during, and right after. I actually was on the elliptical machine 3 days after surgery. Was on the darn thing while I was in labor too. Thought they were Braxton hicks, hehe. I stay active and because of that my body bounces back faster however, I have seen others who weighed more before and then end up looking better then me! I have also seen moms that have had 5+ babies and there tummy’s are amazing! Its all in your mind set on what you make yourself do.

With each added pregnancy it does get harder. We will see how fast it comes off the next time. :) The other reason why I am trying so hard. I know it will be 10x harder to get it off if I don't loose it before we try for number 3!

well, I lost weight after having my second child ...I've gained about 15 or 20 lbs back, but this pic was before the gain. I have stretch marks but they are the same color as my skin. They faded a lot after losing weight though.

edit: I weighed 115-120 before having my first child. I got on the depo shot after I had her and gained a ton of weight, the heaviest I was at would have been in the 170's. I lost most of it before having my second (my first child was 4 by then) and the rest came off after having my second. I was much more careful about what I ate when I was pregnant with my second, because I had lost so much weight before getting pregnant.
