At the same time, I may not like every post but I want to gain more knowledge about my own body and how it works so I read what others opinions are, I remain open-minded, afterall, I could be wrong.

Okay I don't rant alot but this has really been bothering me.... so here goes!

I joined MFP as a way to track my calories and meet a few like minded people who share my struggles. I did not join MFP to hear the opinions of people who think their way of doing things is the only right way and every other way it worthless. We are all supposed to be adults here. Whenever I go on the forums I try to refrain from commenting on a lot of posts because I have been ripped to shreds and I have seen other people ripped to shreds.

Listen, just because one method of weight loss works for you doesn't mean it will work for everybody. If you think taking protein shakes and lifting weights 4 hours a day is the way to go... more power to you. If you think a strict vegan diet and yoga is the magic formula then by all means, have at it. Whatever your method or philosopy, understand that that is what works for you and your lifestyle. These forums are supposed to be for support and motivation and sometimes I feel like there are a lot of BULLIES on here, who try to shove their opinions down everyone's throat.

There are many roads that lead to weight loss and we are all on our own journeys, I think there should be more of a focus on sharing our struggles, frustrations, triumphs, success, helpful tips...etc, than trying to force someone to choose your road.

Opinions are like assho|es - Everyone has one, and we all think our own is the best.

Coolest part? You don't have to listen to the opinions of people who have done amazing things with their weight loss, strength gains, and feats of badassery if you don't want to.

Totally agree with you on this :)

I agree. I personally take the opinion that what works for you may or may not work for me and vice versa. I always try to be true and honest about my opinions and experiences and hope that others do so likewise. We do not all have to agree, but we should always be respectful of each other because most of us are on the road together (different places perhaps, but still targeting health and fitness).

Each person and each body is different and we must accept that some people's body will betray them with fitness where others' bodies will not and we might be passionate about our positions, but it is up to each and every person to find what works for them. Thanks for the reminder.

WOO HOO! you said it! i agree 100% and i also feel that men and women view and achieve their fitness and weight loss goals differently which is why when a man posts something about exercise or calorie intake i rarely comment.

I'd sure like to see specific examples when the word "bully" gets used. I know that what some people describe as bullying, others may describe as disagreement. But I'm not convinced it's as often as we think. I suspect that people see one situation and then post about it in a general way, and others respond, guessing what the OP is referring to. Probability dictates those guesses will be wrong much of the time. So we end up with a debate about different interpretations of "bullying" and "disagreement." And you know what? We could pick ANY TWO WORDS OR IDEAS and debate about the different nuances and meanings and contexts, etc. Without specifics, a common lexicon, and an agreement on middle ground, we're just talking about our ideas of what the words mean. (not necessarily a bad thing, but unlikely the intent of the OP)

I am convinced true bullying would not be condoned by a vast majority of forum participants. I also know that MFP moderators definitely do not condone bullying, and will act swiftly if it's happening. So the most effective means to lessen bullying on MFP is to report specific posts to moderators. There is a 'Report Post' link on every post here.

Also, any thread with a Cheap Trick reference is a win, IMO.

True that.....we all need more inspirational stories like the one of the chick who is going to do the 30day fast......Go against the grain....be your own person.....I dig it.

I understand the frustration you feel. It can be difficult reading the forums without emotion. Consider we are all here with a shared motivation and are like minded individuals. Each supported soul will elaborate on what works for them. It's a choice in how one reads the thread. That being said, I'm not dismissing your comments as they are quite relevant and shared by many.

Today is a day we all share a path! The path each person chooses may be a different color but the end result and location is similar. Healthy living for life! Here we come!

This could not be any less true... Maybe the reason some don't get along with others is because they assume "we are all here for the same reason" "we share this journey" etc etc. Not everyone here is to lose weight. Some are here to gain weight, some are using it to track their exercise/strength gains....

Don't take the internet so personally and your life will be a lot better.

I find it funny that SO MANY PEOPLE post about how other people are wrong and how other people shouldn't say this or shouldn't say that. It's called the internet...it's not called your living room, or your rules.

When people post something or ask for an opinion, they will get a multitude of them...some may be right, others wrong and some just down right lame....but they asked for it. Once they have received the "answers" then they shouldn't get their panties in a wad when they read something they may not agree with.

If this person was serious about wanting an answer, they would do other research for themselves and not ask a bunch of pretty much total strangers.....

I want to point out that a lot of people on here will post their opinions in very matter-of-fact ways and a lot of people lack the ability to read the statements as such: opinions. Far too many people on here get "butt-hurt" over silly things instead of taking what they read with a grain of salt.

What do you do in real life when someone tells you something you don't want to hear? Go running to the president and tattle on them? No. If you're wise, you listen to what the other person has to say, use it to your advantage, or leave it behind you and move on. Simple.

Granted some things on here go waaaay too far and result in actual bullying. But for the actual cyber bullying, there are mods who you can speak with to help remedy the actual bullying; not disagreements.

Have you thought of addressing your "rant" to the offenders themselves rather than buckshot to the whole community? Crazy how well that works sometimes. Just a suggestion. :flowerforyou: because you seem like you need it. Good luck!

Disagreeing isn't what makes anyone a "bully". I'm always amused when someone thinks that's a defense to the claims of bullying on here. It's what is said, how it's said, and the constant commenting with mean jabs. This doesn't just happen with weight loss suggestions or fitness advice. It happens when someone just wants to rant about something random in the Chit-Chat section. There are people here who enjoy "picking on" others. But, this is an Internet site, and it's going to happen. You choose how to deal with those people. Ignore them, call them out, or turn the tables on them and start picking apart everything they post. But, it's not going to stop, not even with another thread about it.
