Good morning everyone! My exercise plan says I will go to the gym today. However, I may run outside instead so that I have more time for grading. Watching the weather closely right now--it's very damp. We'll see what it's like when I'm actually ready to walk out the door.

@tom--good luck with the quitting!! I'm currently stuck at 7-8 cigarettes/day. Can't seem to get below that number. Maybe I need to follow your lead and just stop altogether.

@all of the folks who shifted to 1 lb/wk loss. I did the same thing a few weeks back with good results. My weight spiked up for a week or so, but then this week I finally dropped a pound below my lowest.

Happy Sunday to all my friends! Praying your Sunday is a relaxing one. It is a pretty fall day out today although the wind is really blowing. With the colors of the leaves blowing it is a beautiful picture out my window. Loved getting my long walk back today, I really missed it yesterday. My Sunday share is that moving does make me feel better emotionally, spiritually and physically. I had gotten so seditary with my chronic pain and COPD. Of course having lost 59 lbs has made moving a lot easier. Going to do my prayer list, work on a pillow case dress and clean my kitchen today. I will be going to my son and DIL's for supper so will eat a lite lunch to make sure I don't go over cal.

Tom, loved the Elmo, you are so creative. Praying for strength for you in quiting smoking. You have been doing great on cutting back.

Praying for Aug and Kaye's surgeries to go well and a speedy recovery.

    Love you all,

    Christine

@Morgori - That is one of the most awesome pumpkins I've ever seen. My husband can do all that crazy vegetable carving as a part of his job but it's all the same stuff over and over. I've never seen an Elmo! I love him!!

@Karen - I agree with you that we do need our union behind us right now. They block out time and money in the summer for curriculum writing and if they say we’d be compensated for the extra time, I think that we would do it with no problem. For me it’s not even a big deal - they are both research kids and they work as a team, so really the work is all on them, I just have to hold them to a higher standard than I do freshmen usually. I will actually be considering them as giving me INTEL level work. The other teacher will have the real issue, she already has 3 preps and for her this is a very big problem. I firmly believe that we have to both be strong and stand up for ourselves. In our district it is very, very obvious that parents run things. Our Superintendent is a resident and parent to 3 students in the district, he is also neighbors and best friends with the BOE president. He holds "Coffee talks” at the diner - unofficially - so that parents can speak to him directly, outside of school or the board, and make their concerns known. I don’t know of another district that a parent could privately fund an “activity.” It’s unfair as all hell but that’s the way it is here.

@ Alison - My district is very, very big on curriculum alignment. They want all teachers of one subject to follow a common scope and sequence, and at least one major exam a marking period has to be a common exam. To give a kid a more challenging experience they push them into IB, and as these kids are both in 9th, that would mean changing their entire schedule to schedule them with juniors and seniors, and I personally think that would be doing them a disservice. They have to get the basic level classes in regardless (and it is honors, by no way do I mean that the classes are not already advanced) to meet NYS lab and Regents requirements. It’s really a crazy situation and I can so see how it can be exploited. It was suggested that the kids show up for labs, to get the necessary minutes, and spend lecture time in the library working on whatever they want to, and essentially teach themselves biology. As I said this affects me to a much lesser degree with research. But frankly I think this way would be a copout and not help the students at all. it’s a really fine line to draw, and proving to be a tough one.

    Enough school nonsense!

A side effect of the myriad of medicine I’m taking is that I am not as hungry. Which is nice, but if I only ate when I was hungry I wouldn't be overweight!! Since I can realize that I’m not hungry, what I've been doing is drinking a lot of tea. Lemon Zinger =) It’s so cold suddenly at night, we went from 70 to 50 in one nights time. SO that cup of tea is keeping me busy and not eating and doubling as a source of heat. Oil prices are ridiculous and I want to keep the heat off as much as possible. Last winter was so mild I never turned it on. My last delivery was teeny, $303 back in May. But I’m going to be due soon and I’d like another bill less than $500. That usually never happens in the winter!!

With the downturn in the weather I am having a very hard time getting more than 4 glasses of water in. I just can’t stomach cold water right now. The worst is the AM medicine, which has to be taken on an empty stomach with a full glass of water. I feel like I’m going to hurl.

Any suggestions on the water intake?

I am excited to be down over 12# since I started here 3 weeks ago. My goal was to lose as much as possible before surgery. I think I did quite well. When I have recovered, I will switch my goal to a long-term one for a steady weight loss on a diet that I can maintain for the long-haul.
@skinnyjeanz-all of your talk of grading papers reminds me of my youngest daughter. She is a certified English teacher but switched over a few years ago to media specialist and librarian. She loves the library and says that the best part is that she still gets to help the kids with research and reading, but doesn't have to grade papers.

@Tom~Good for you quitting smoking. After a myriad of health problems, I quit cold turkey about 15 years ago and haven't had one since. Love the pumpkin!

@Andrea~I sometimes get tired of tasteless water, so I add a packet of True Lemon - its just crystallized lemon, calorie/sweetener free. Its also available in lime and orange flavors - all are good.

Good luck to Aug and Kaye on their surgeries tomorrow - hope all goes well and you both have quick recoveries.

I was so excited when I went grocery shopping today and found Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime tea for my Keurig - its the small things!

Off to the gym for training...

Happy Sunday. I'm a bit behind so, here goes...

First!! Grandma Kaye and Aug - Best of luck with our surgeries. Can't wait to hear from you both when you come back!!
Second!! Happy birthday Garetie and OhPampered!!

Any couponers out there....... coupons.com and betty crocker coupons both have Muir Glen Tomato coupons (rarely see those so I got excited and it's double coupon week at Albertsons soooo FREE MUIR GLEN TOMATO SAUCE!)

Saturday success - Not a whole lot of it this week. Got no exercise and did not stay under calories as much as I should have. Really need to kick my butt and get myself going or I'll never make my 200 pound goal by Christmas.

Sunday share - I'm not dealing with my **** storm of a life (pardon my french) as well as I would like too. I've never had to go at it without burying myself in food before and the transition is proving harder than I anticipated. When I get depressed and/or overwhelmed I tend to bury myself in my apartment and eat..... which I think is why I didn't get any exercise this past week. I didn't eat BAD stuff, just too much good stuff and didn't exercise.

I did force myself to walk yesterday and despite my very unhealthy breakfast today I'm back on track.

Thanks to the suggestions on here I started watching Season 1 of Revenge. Im LOVING it. Terrible and cruel but AMAZING!

Andrea - what a trying and emotional time you are experiencing - HUGS! :flowerforyou: So glad to hear your hubby and his precious parrot patch are both OK. That is so scary. I am a big fan of tattoo's so I like the sound of his. I don't know much about the fertility game, but I do know if you can't relax, its really a hard time to conceive. THese current stresses your under will definitely have to leave your court, or you and hubby have to carve out such a perfect temple of serenity at home to make all the science work with your body.
I agree with Skinny about the school issue - get the union involved at this point. Money taints everything.

Grandmakaye - you're in my pipeline too, to the Big Kahuna of prayers.

Sherriel - have fun with the Halloween decorations - we drove around last night and were so surprised at how many houses had orange lights on them for the season - they really are festive and cheery. Hope they stay up til the christmas ones.

ohpampered - Yes you CAN do this - I'm so excited at your enthusiam! Isn't it great to see yourself in a calorie deficit? wasn't if worth it to wander through that maze for 2 hours? Think of that memory you made with your child. WOW! All that goodness!

BohoCoast - so sad to hear about your daughter's party dress - that's a crusher of a blow to a young girls' first fancy night out. Sounds like you really have been balancing well while you had a good time, good for you!

Morgori - very best wishes as you stop smoking - you've demonstrated such STRENGTH and PERSEVERENCE already I know you can do this. Remember, if you fall off the wagon, you still stopped smoking TODAY, and you'll get back on the wagon after the fall. ...............and Great Elmo!

Saturday Success:? Umm..I got to go out with some old highschool friends. It was a good time. I haven't had time to really enjoy too much this semester. It's hectic.

Sunday.. Don't remember the title of this one but i'll just blab. So, hopefully tomorrow I find out about the internship. I'm going to be so happy if I either get an offer or a second interview. It'd make my day and even my week. :)

PS. Are we moving to another thread soon?
