    Happy Sunday-

Well I haven't read any posts yet. I have been hung over most of the day it was a great Girls Night at my house. I had a huge amount of jello shots.
I couldn't find any of the food I ate in the diary database and I ate at a lot of mom and pop places.

A good day overall. Did a little shopping today and worked out. It was a good workout and I stayed under my calorie limit today. However, I really need to work on doing regular push-ups since my knees have bruises from rock climbing and today's push ups. They are red and slightly sore tonight. Earlier today they were just bruised. That will be the next goal I need to work on.

I have been on this journey for over 2 years now and it is a constant struggle with my weight. I experience ups and downs all the time and there is no rhyme or reason to the way my body responds to proper eating and exercise. What I do know is that I need to change things up in my routine. Either up the intensity or add some new activities. I am seriously considering adding water aerobics back into my workouts at least 1 time a week. My problem is that the class is offered on the same day and time that I want to participate in a social activity. One of my personal goals is to be more social and meet more people. I could go swimming at other times but I need to find the motivation to go back to the pool.

I am looking forward to having tomorrow off and I will hopefully be looking at condos tomorrow.
Have a great day and a week filled with good choices.

    Good Morning.

Well, not a holiday for me unfortunately – in the health care industry you just don’t get very many of those.

Monday Check-In~It was a good weekend, busy as usual but good. Stayed within my macros all weekend. Soreness is starting to settle in from that intense weight training session yesterday, found myself icing my back and one of my knees late last night – really seemed to work those muscles yesterday. My hammies and quads are starting to hurt this morning, I’m sure it will only get worse as the day progresses. It’s all good though – no pain no gain. My workout should help to loosen things up a bit tonight.

    Fitness last week:
    Monday~Jogging Elliptical DONE!
    Tuesday~Rest Day DONE!
    Wednesday~Training DONE!
    Thursday~Rest Day DONE!
    Friday~None, met friends for dinner
    Saturday~Run DONE!
    Sunday~Training DONE!

    This week:
    Monday~Arc Trainer
    Tuesday~Rest Day
    Wednesday~Training
    Thursday~Rest Day
    Friday~Cross Trainer or bike/row
    Saturday~Run
    Sunday~Training

@Karen~I’m not very consistent with planks either, my trainer was noticing some weaknesses in one of our workouts last week so now is making planks a part of every session. I do them on my forearms and sometimes on an upside down Bosu ball (can’t hold them near as long). Let me tell you by one minute my body starts shaking, he pushes me to hold it longer and I basically fall to the floor by the time that two minutes hits. I’m amazed at how much your heart rate increases doing those. I need to do one to two of those after every workout.
@Holly~Glad you enjoyed your girls night out, we deserve those every now and then.
@Laurie~Enjoy your day off and condo shopping today.
@Robin~Actually just the kind of relationship I’m looking for. I’m actually not looking to get married, just someone to vacation with and socialize with – I wouldn’t hurt if they were handy so they could fix stuff around my house too!

    Have a good day!

Good morning everyone-- not a holiday for me either Kelley! I wish..We used to have the holiday off, but my company took it away! *kitten* LOL

Monday check in--well, I go to the eye doctor tomorrow, just to make sure everything is ok. I will give an update on that as soon as I can. My mom is my designated driver LOL

I did get on the scale this morning to do my mid-week check in and I was excited to see the number on the scale! I'm thinking my loss was so low last week because of TOM. dirty rat *kitten*. :noway: :noway: Hoping to see good results this week.

Does anyone else notice that if you dont go to the gym for a few days consecutively that you have a greater loss that week, or is this just my imagination?

WATER TAG EVERYONE!!!!:drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker:

Hello, everyone! Have been MIA for a couple of days because I went to my parents' for the weekend. My sister was in town for a grad school interview at a school near them and I wanted to see her. I love my sister so much. She's 4 years younger than me and we weren't that close growing up (she was the annoying little sister, tag along, etc.) but as adults, she's my best friend. Anyway, it looks like she will probably get accepted, which means she would only be about 3 hours from me, so I'm very excited!

My sis, mom and I went shopping on Saturday. I needed some new clothes I could wear to work. There are outlet malls near mom's so I found a pair of pants and a skirt that fit for cheap. I didn't want to spend much since I'm hoping to keep losing and they will hopefully be too big soon! Also bought two pair of shoes that were on clearance. Didn't need them, but I loved them and at $7 and $10, I couldn't resist,

I had this dream last night that I was on this hiking trip. It was a week long and during the day we walked through scenic and interesting places, then at night, we camped. I have to say, this is NOT my idea of a vacation. My ideal vacation is a luxury hotel with breakfast in bed! But in the dream, I enjoyed it, and I remember thinking "I can't wait to sync my fitbit and see how many miles I've walked!" I lost weight when I weighed in this morning, so maybe I was burning extra calories in my sleep while dreaming I was walking! LOL!

Sorry for the lack of personals, but a couple of notes. I was friends with my boyfriend before we started dating. We met in college and I used to think there were characteristics about him that I could accept in a friend but would drive me crazy in a boyfriend. But over time, they seemed to matter less and less. He went from being the friend I would call at 2am when I had a fight with my boyfriend, to being friends with benefits when neither of us were dating someone else, to casual dating (I was then living 7 hours away and we didn't want to put too much pressure on the relationship) to exclusivity, to living together, and now living across the country but so much in love and committed to each other that I know we will be together until we die. Being friends first is great. You find out all the ugly stuff about each other while friends and don't worry so much about trying to impress the other person once you're dating!

And btw, I love how some of you call your monthly visitor Tom. I 'm going to steal that!

Des - I loved how you dreamed about hiking - and loved it! That's a sign your mental attitudes are changing - wow!

Kah - hope your achiness gets better!

Laurie - I'd opt for the social activity over swimming - then maybe you can find a swimming partner for later! Its frustrating when you've been on this journey for so long that the weight loss really gets sluggish. Can you try shaking up your fiber/protein/carb ratio?

I have just added fiber back into my diet and boy do I feel better. I dropped the added fiber about six months back after my surgery while I was eating copious amounts of veggies but lately my veggie consumption has dropped off drastically. Didn't really pay attention to what that did to my digestion. Adding back fiber powder really fixed that and boy do I feel better. Nuff said!

I packed up nik-naks from my living/dining room yesterday and its starting to look plain. All I have left to do is take the paintings down and its ready for me to prep the walls for my brother to paint. Only thing, I'm STILL deciding colors. I have till FRIDAY. EEPS!
  • Monday Check-In: So happy to report that the scale finally started moving again, after a month of stagnation! Glad I just kept doing what I do and was finally rewarded with a catch-up loss of 4.4 pounds! I would like to lose five more this month, but if it doesn't happen, no worries... eventually it will. My goal has been to lose 10% of my body weight every four months. This month marks 8 months of this lifestyle change and five more pounds would hit the second 10% marker. Trying not to obsess over the scale.... so many other rewards to this process, but I do get a bit stuck on the numbers. I definitely think that getting healthier in one aspect of my life is spilling over into others and helping me figure out what I really want from life. The movement from grave shift to days has been so good for my mind/body (bad for my bank account, sigh), and a movement from direct care into research/policy work would be an amazing next step -- I put my resume out for the position and am really hoping that they call! Either way, I think things will fall into place. Clarity and confidence are great unanticipated outcomes of this MFP journey. Thanks to all of you for helping with that!

@des--that's so nice that your sister may be closer soon, and sounds like a fun shopping trip--I live by the philosophy that you you can never have too many pairs of shoes, especially if you can snag them at a good price! Until I saw it on MFP, I had never heard of TOM (Time Of Month) as a euphemism for the "visitor" (or as rachael would say "dirty rat *kitten* ). It does make me feel bad for morgori and other men named Tom--it's got to feel like they're getting blamed for lots of stuff that's not their fault.

@rachael--I don't think it's your imagination. My theory is that when you take a few days off, it gives your muscles a chance to heal so they retain less water, hence the bigger drop on the scale those weeks. I've also noticed that when I take a few days off of running, I have a better run the next day. I assume it's b/c my running muscles are well-rested. So in the summer when I tend to run every other day, I always try to take 2-3 consecutive days off before a race.

@kelley--we have some of those arc trainers at my gym, but I've never tried them.Do you like it better than an elliptical? The motion looks very similar--I'm curious how the workout differs.

@laurie--I can't do the push ups on my knees for the same reason--they get all red and bruised, so when I started doing push ups, I went straight to the army style. I could only do 3, but I just kept at it and pretty soon I was up to 10-12 which is where I've remained. I wish I liked to swim b/c we have an indoor pool at my gym. I love to play in the water, but I find swimming laps very boring, and all of the water aerobics classes would require an extra fee that I don't want to pay. I hope you find a way to work the pool back into your routine without giving up your social group. Good luck condo shopping!

@holly--I had the same issue this weekend at my girls' weekend, so I skipped logging my food (and drinks). Just starting fresh today. Glad you had a fun weekend! :drinker: And robin's right, drink lots of water! :drinker:

@kaye--congrats on the continued loss despite some indulgences! :flowerforyou:

    Anyone heard from toots lately?

    Monday check-in:
I didn't get my long run in over the weekend, but I'm already dressed for the gym to take care of it today.

I'm at 120 miles for the year and just moved from Hanover County, VA to Louise County, VA.

On the Hobbit train, I'm on Day 12 of their journey--Midgewater Marshes are due north. On LOTR trail I'm on Day 7 (those Hobbits sure moved a lot faster this time around!) traveling with Tom Bombadill after he rescued the ponies.

    Exercise goals week of 2/18:
    Mon--walk gunner + long run
    Tues--walk gunner + core
    Wed--walk gunner + gym
    Thurs--walk gunner + core
    Fri--rest day
    Sat--walk gunner + long run
    Sun--walk gunner + gym

GHD= 16/28 days minimum 80 grams of protein
  • Good morning Everyone! Today is supposed to be weigh in day but TOM decided to come for a visit yesterday so I will definitely not be weighing until next Monday. Honestly, I feel retched today. I just want to go back to bed and sleep the day away. Irregardless of how horrible TOM makes me feel I will still be working out.

I'll go ahead and do weekend ones along with my Monday check in.

Saturday success: I went to the park with my puppy and sister and was able to walk a good bit with no pain and faster than normal as long as I was shoeless. My puppy definitely enjoyed all the fresh air and play time he got!

Sunday Share: My name is Helena. I am 22 yrs old. I have over 100 lbs to lose and am trying to take this journey just one day at a time. I have a wonderful boyfriend that I love so much and whom I have been with for almost 2 years and we just adopted a puppy at the beginning of the year. I live just south Houston during the week and on the weekends I live in Galveston.

Monday Check-in: I was all go go go this weekend. I brought my puppy up to see my sister on Saturday and Sunday and we went to the park and walked and ran and played all day both days. I got plenty of exercise in. My eating wasn't super awesome. but it wasn't completely horrible. My boyfriend took me to Joes crab shack on friday to celebrate valentines day. We had a great time. I need to make a list and go grocery shopping again tonight. It seems my mom and sister helped themselves to my fruit and veggies, which i don't mind at all.

@Kaye Hooray for the new baby!

@Des My sisters are my best friends too. I was very sad when my oldest younger sister moved to florida to live with my grandma but I get to see her in 2 weeks so I am pretty excited. I'm glad your sister will be closer to you!

@all you teachers So jealous you are out today. I would love to be off it is another nice day and I just want to get out and do something.

@Rachael I feel the same way about TOM and that is why I refuse to get on the scale.

@Jennifer I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Positive thoughts and prayers are being sent your way.

@Skinnyjeans I know what you mean about not being very close to your younger sister growing up because my youngest sister is 7 years younger than me but in the last few years we have grown closer.

I hope that everyone has a great day!
    Helena

Good Morning. I think that I am going to adopt Skinny's way of keeping track of weight: weigh frequently and record each new low, never mind the fluctuations. Today I weigh 2# less than I did yesterday, which puts me at the 50# I have been aiming for. :ohwell:
I have to start cooking early today. I hope it burns calories because I am making DH favorite meal; lasagna, bread sticks, and homemade german chocolate cake. Yikes! We will have 16 for dinner today.
My daughter paid me a really nice compliment yesterday. She said that 6 months ago she was worried about me being able to care for the new baby, but now she isn't worried at all, because I am in much better health and have so much more energy.
Hope you all have a good start to your week. Kaye

    Happy Monday...

I am creature of habit. I am not use to doing the exercise I put down for GHD challenge and I keep forgetting to do it. I am 13/18 days on the challenge.
I walked around Menards, Sams club and Target this weekend but nothing major for working out I took a weekend off from everything homework and fitness. My food choices werent bad and for my party I pretty much just had jello shots and chicken wings. Yesterday, I went out for Chinese at local place and had lemon shrimp and fried rice. The Girl Scout cookies came today and man o man keep them away. I bought the short bread ones with chocolate backs.
Back on track today have the gym time planned out and dinner we are BBQ on our new grill. Yes, I know there is snow on the ground it is only 30 deg outside but we are still grilling burgers, ribs, and brats.

I’ve been thinking about Toots too, hope everything is okay with her hubs and that he is recovering well.

@Karen~I don’t know that I like the arc trainer better than the elliptical, it works some different muscle groups and the motion is slightly different. Your foot kind of goes in an “arc” pattern, so more up and down than an “ellipse” pattern on the elliptical. It really works your large thigh muscles and your butt. Depending on the elliptical I’m using I can burn more calories on the arc. My gym has two different arc trainers – one with moving arms and one without. I use the one with, it gives you a great upper body workout at the same time. I had never really used it before until my trainer suggested it a couple of weeks ago – I told him the Octane elliptical (jogging elliptical) was bothering my legs after a heavy lifting day, he said this would work the larger muscle groups and help to drive some of the lactic acid out. Could be psychosomatic but I think he’s right, my legs always feel a little better afterwards.

@Kaye~What a great compliment from your daughter!

First time I've posted in over a month.

So far I've gone back up in weight, 240 even now. My lowest was 234, 6 lbs gained over the last three months.
My birthday is this coming wednesday. I'm hoping to get back on track to weightloss again, however I've been still playing the Adventures in depression game.

It's getting out of control, I've been living on ice cream, ramen, and mac and cheese like a broke college student. (College student yes, broke not so much yet.).

Hyzaarc/ Stacie - Happy Birthday in advance of Wednesday! So sorry you have been plagued with depression still. Have you seen a counselor? If not, its time you got together with one. And probably not an on-campus one, but a serious for-real one who can prescribe anti-depressants, as someone else suggested.

You really need to get your nutrition under control for your health, if not for weight loss. I'm not worried about a six pound gain, that's not much over that period of time. But I worry you're not getting enough protein or veggies. Not enough vitamins or minerals.

Keep us informed, OK? LOTS OF HUGS!!!!! :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

    Good morning!
Here is a Sunday share even though it is Monday (I’m off from work for the holiday so it seems like Sunday again). I’m Tom (not to be confused with the rat *kitten* above:laugh: ) from CT. My family moved from Maine one year before I was born. I lived in CT. until I was 20. I had never been west of PA. I moved to Phoenix AZ in 1979 and then to Las Vegas in 1991. I met Amy my wife in AZ and we got married in Las Vegas in 1992. In 1972 I weighed 245lbs. I played football in high school and was very active. I ate a lot but was a strong 245lbs. that could run. I kept eating like I was when playing after I had graduated and was not nearly so active. I gained a lot of weight. I was 430lbs. at the heaviest I have ever seen but it is hard to find scales that go up that high so I could have been more at some point. It is nice to be less than 300lbs. now and will love to make it to 199lbs.! I work for a Slot machine manufacturer in the R&D Engineering group and enjoy some of the people I work with, some not so much. I still go there every work day and since they have trimmed the work force down I am busy all the time. I have worked there for 21 years. Before that I worked on jet aircraft avionics which was much more intense because if I screwed something up a jet might crash, now if I screw something up a slot machine or player tracking/accounting system might not work right, big difference.
I tried to get Amy to join me on this journey to get healthy which she did for a little while. She is still losing some weight, but does not log in here even to log food. The good news is she is slowly losing some weight. We got married in the Excalibur Hotel and Casino by Merlin the wizard. It was fun. We live in a small house three miles from my work and Amy runs a small licensed daycare from our house. We have no children of our own but there are up to six kids at my house every weekday. Amy even has one of her first kids that she cared for bring his two sons now. It is nice to have the kids around. It is great at Christmas and Halloween! The kids are all preschool age and once they go to school we do not see most of them anymore. Last night one of the girls that used to come to daycare came and had a pampered chef party at our house. I still think of her as a four year old girl even though she is in her early 20’s.
They say a picture is worth 1000 words so here goes:

On track today. We tried a new gym but didnt care for it, so I went back to Lifetime. Though I missed the water aerobics class, I did some pool walking and exercises and stretched in the steam room. It pushed me at 175% of my activity goal for the day and earned me one extra food point. I am working on trying to incorporate two servings of milk product into my diet because the calcium is supposed to help weight loss. I will probably change to almond milk though because I dont tolerate regular milk to well

It's a beautiful day here in Atlanta. Didnt need a coat and felt like I should be planting flowers. The nursery I shop at opens next week. I cant wait to go buy some hosta lilies

grandmakay - Impressive weight loss. I am so happy for you

mn walking Queen - I would have to say you are the Grill Queen also. At 30 degress I am usually in bed to keep warm

Tom - You have come so far. Congratulations. You have no were to go but down!! I really enjoyed your share and your pictures.

@katrena--weight to burn those calories and earn your extra point! :drinker: It is unseasonably warm here in Chicago too. However, it's only about 50 degrees, so I still need a coat. Tomorrow it will be back in the teens--brrr! :grumble:

@toots--glad you're still around--hoping for a positive update on your hubs soon.

    @tom--loved the pictures! :smile:

@kelley--thanks for the info on the arc trainer--I'm sure I'll work my way onto it one of these days. I tend to go through phases with the cardio machines (other than the treadmill--that's a constant). A couple of months ago, I was all about the stairmaster, but got bored of that pretty quickly. Right now, I'm really enjoying the stationary bike. Have been playing around with the hills settings for variety. I've always liked the elliptical, but I need to be careful not to use it too often for fear of hip problems.

@holly--even if you're not at 18/18 on the GHD challenge, you're still doing it. And if you're anything like me, 13/18 is still probably way more than you would have done before joining MFP. We also grill in the cold--we move the gas grill right outside our back door for the winter, where it stays until spring when we move it back to the patio. My DH will try to grill in almost any weather. The only thing that deters him are very high winds (keep blowing out the flame) or extreme cold (like so cold the grill won't get hot enough to cook the meat). He prepped steaks this morning to grill tonight, but at almost 50 degrees it's downright balmy here in Chicago.

@kaye--congrats on hitting the 50 lbs lost mark!! :drinker: :flowerforyou: Also, I love that your daughter has noticed your improved health and stamina--what a great NSV!!

@helena--Good for you for working out even when not feeling great. I bet the exercise will ease those TOM symptoms. I won't up with a splitting headache, and 2 aleve didn't seem to help. I went to the gym anyway and the headache disappeared. If you enjoy walking shoeless, you should look into buying a pair of those minimal running shoes. They are supposed to mimic barefoot walking/running, but still offer your feet some protection from the elements and road debris.

AFM--I did my long run at the gym. Did really well the 1st 2 miles then I just sort of ran out of steam. I'm sure it's due to all of the toxins I put in my body over the weekend--alcohol, sugar, diet coke, etc. I alternated walking and running the remaining 2 miles, but still finished 4 miles in 46 minutes so not too far off my 11 minute mile pace. I also did 20 minutes of HILLS PLUS on the stationary bike--almost 6.5 miles.

Now I'm at starbucks getting ready to do all of the grading I ignored this weekend. Those of you jealous of my teacher's day off, don't turn too green. I have hours of work to do today. :ohwell:

    Grading goals:
    1. x/16 Parts of Speech post tests
    2. x/47 BNW language analyses
    3. x/16 Good Deeds essays
    4. 1/47 BNW journals
    5. Prep for AP presentations

TOOTS!!! NO FAIR!!! You can't pop in without an update on your hubby!!!!

Sorry, I didn't have time to give any info before. I won't bother with a ton of information. Suffice it to say it was a super virus, he's doing better now, he's been having a lot of scans and things to see if there is any permanent lung damage and if he didn't run 15-30 miles a week he probably would have ended up in the ICU for a week or more. So it's a good thing he's a compulsive runner who was prepping for his military twice a year fitness test before he got sick so he'd upped his game a lot in anticipation. It seemed to really help a lot. He's not 100% but he's at home and doing better and he even went to work for a couple of hours on Friday for the first time in two weeks.

Toots - so glad he is doing better and that his overall health protected him from the super virus. WIll pray he doesn't have permanent damage to his lungs. How does it feel to have him underfoot all the time?

We had wind gusts of over 40 mph today. This was significant because I was dropping off a prescription for pain medication today at a drop-off window at the pharmacy and the script blew right out of the drop-box. The pharmacist and I just looked on in amazement! It must have rose 10 stories in the air then sailed off into never-never land. We had to call my doctor and explain the situation - he got a chuckle out of it and re-ordered the meds for me no problem. Its not often you can tell a doctor you just lost your narcotics script and get them to write another one. ITS A MINOR MIRACLE!

The doctor also said the high dose of prednisone I'm on is responsible for my weight gain - pointing out my swollen ankles (I hadn't noticed ) and my nervousness and skin breakouts and newly worsened hair loss. He is going to taper me down to a lower dosage when I return from vacation and we'll see if I can't get back to losing weight!

Good Monday afternoon all. I love the pics Tom you look great. Toots I am happy to hear the hubby is on the road to recovery. Thank goodness he was so healthy to start with. Well I started my room a day scrubdown and purge in anticipation of hopefully moving this spring. Today was the kitchen. It took just over five hours (thats with a few breaks) but it is scrubbed from floor to ceiling and all the cabinets are cleaned out. I came close to quiting a couple times but after making fun of myself got back to it and now its done. I really hate cleaning. Its not that I dont like a clean house I do but it is so futile its just going to get messy again :grumble: I gave myself 60 min of light to moderate cleaning for exercise points. I would say I definitley earned at least that many. Now I need to find something to eat. I just got up and got busy today so have only had a couple bites of ice cream I filched from daughter today. I am getting a little hungry:tongue: Oh yeah Kaye congrats on the 50 pound mark. I am hoping to be there this week. Have a great day everyone. Water tag:drinker: :drinker:

I did enjoy my day off today and may have found a place. I am waiting to get some final numbers on condo fees and to hear about a mortgage approval.

Toots- Glad your hubby is doing better.

Tom- Love the pictures, they really do tell a story.

Today, I decided I wanted oatmeal for breakfast so I decided to make some old-fashion oatmeal instead of the instant (less sugar). However, it did not taste good to me even with cinnamon added so I threw most of it out and ate a pecan roll with my protein shake instead. Not the best choice I know but it did taste good. Tomorrow it is back to the eggs and turkey for breakfast. I did watch my calories today so overall not to bad just low on the protein for me by being under 100g.

I opted to see my chiropractor today since my knee was bothering me. The push up caused the bursa to become inflamed and very happy. This led to the deep red bruises on my knees and the fact that it is sore to the touch. Needless to say I can go back to wall push ups or move to full body. I will most likely try full body since I the wall need to be more challenging for me. My knee is looking better but it is still sore. I will most likely get it treated again this weekend especially a day after rock climbing.

    Hello All,

I finally got caught up on the 5pgs I was behind. I will not do personals because they are so old, I am just gonna stay current.

KJefferies 2 and Karen- I normally wouldn't grill in the winter at all but the neighbors did so that made me want to.
Toots- Glad your hubby is home and doing better
Robin- Glad the doctor is lowering your med dosage and your story about the script was funny
Kaye- what a great compliment on babysitting and congrats on 50lbs
Jtconst- I hate house cleaning to but it is an evil necessity

thanks everyone. glad the stressful part seems to be mostly over. we still have the results to get back but i'm hoping it won't be bad.

actually, robin, it doesn't bother me to have him home haha oddly i would like having him around all the time if it wasn't for that pesky need for money, so i actually enjoyed that part
