Monday Check in - Didn't gain as much as I expected after this indulgant weekend so I'm happy on that front. Tomorrow I believe I have an interview for a higher position at work (I applied and the manager said we will sit down tomorrow so I assume its for an interview) so I am working on a 30-60-90 and hoping I knock his socks off.

Been busy doing laundry including bed linens, sweeping floors, unloading and loading dishwasher and resting a bit before I vacuum. Belle hates it when I vacuum, she also hates the broom when I sweep barking at both of them. I couldn't figure out how come I was getting so breathless as I was going at a slow pace when the alarm went off on my concentrator. Investigated and found I had been walking around so much I had kinked my hose! lol I'm hoping to get the floors mopped too. After 2 days spent with rambunctious grandkids, it is nice to enjoy the quiet. Just had to brag about what I'm getting done today as haven't been able to do it in a while. Take care everyone.

ok, I've come to the realization that although shiritaki noodles have no calories, neither do rubber bands - which eating them reminds me of.
I must be doing something wrong.
I tried them very early on in my journey and yeah.....not going there again. The texture creeped me out and no matter how i rinsed and dried them i felt like i could 'taste' the fishy smell.

I'm early in my experimentation with them, but here are some tips Lin gave me:
Rinse for at least 5 minutes. I rinse mine and even kind of pick them up in the colander to make sure they really get washed thoroughly. I haven't noticed any fishy taste or smell.

Dry fry them in a skillet for several minutes to remove excess moisture before you add any sauce, veggies, etc. I found this REALLY helped to get the sauce to "stick."

Another thing I noticed is that the noodles are really, really long and seem impervious to even the sharpest of steak knives. This seemed to lend to the "rubber-band-like" quality. So yesterday when I made them, I used kitchen shears to cut them up as I put them into the pan to dry fry them. I liked them much better in manageable pieces.

That all being said, I like them best in asian dishes b/c they are much closer in texture to rice noodles than pasta. I will keep you posted if I find any new tricks.

Doing ok so far. Ran a couple of errands and am currently at starbucks. I finished the Columber responses  and will get through at least a few of the cw stories. How many will depend on how good they are--if they're really painful, I may have to stop at 5, but if they are respectable, I will shoot for at least 10.

    Grading goals for the weekend:
    1. x/58 creative writing stories
    2. 48/48 "Columber" responses--DONE!!!
    3. prep for Advanced Grammar class--DONE!!!

Need to hit the grocery store and walk Gunner before my DH makes dinner, so I better get to it. Will check back with you all tonight.

Hi All. Been a while since I've ben on here. Lots of things happening at work and home which made me lose track however after a break away with the family I'm back in the right frame of mind and happy to note that at weigh-in this morning I've actually lost a whole 1lb. Looking forward to my birthday at the end of this week and my wedding anniversary on Sunday which will mean a meal out sometime over the weekend but hopefully a spinning class on Saturday will take care of that.

Hope you've all enjoyed Labour Day. Take care.

Just got back from the movie "The Expendibles -2". It was loads of fun, laughs, incredulous smash-ups. The time just flew by. It was a fun treat for Labor Day. No popcorn or pop either, I haven't had either in over a year of movie-going, so its no temptation anymore..
    TMI ALERT - - - - -
I'm anxious to get on the scale but  I haven't had a BM in 4 days - and weird thing is, as a prep for surgery, they've been having me take a laxative for the last 3 days and I am to continue up to the night before surgery. I hope something happens! :blushing: I've been eating buckets of veggies too. I wish BigAug was here, because I'm going to need somebody to shout "thar she blows!" when the medicine finally does work!

i've had the same best friend for about twenty years and her mother, who i have also known for twenty years, has been ill. she was in a coma for two weeks and it wasn't going well at all. then suddenly she was doing much better. she went home from the hospital and everything. this morning she died. i'm just shocked. it's very surreal. I mean, i'm not looking for sympathy or anything. it's just utterly bizarre. i can't even process it. she was only 60. it's really strange.

Checking in - I am doing pretty good. I feel strong and mostly healthy. I walked over 5 miles in total this weekend, and am getting ready to walk at least one more - That is an amazing thing for me. I did have a few beers last night, and a small sampling of the various bar dips and junk, but was not too far over on calories, so I will forgive myself for the lapse.

I hope you all had an amazing day, and wish you a wonderful week :drinker:

Monday Share: Hello my name is Dallas, and well think its obvious this my first post here in this thread. When I saw this sitting there in the Motivation and Support thread I had to jump on it knowing that my goal on its own is well over 100LBS.... I just joined MFP a few weeks ago and I'm finally able to put it into so sort of use. I've been skimming through the pages here and I've been inspired by all the support from everyone that seems to participate here. My main goal for myself is to become healthier for my son so I do know that I can hang around to see him grow up. Right now it's the matter of getting up off my rump and moving around more than I already do. So I figured I would pop in here and say hello, and hope that I can stick to actually becoming a regular poster here in this thread. :flowerforyou:

    @dallas & andi--welcome!! :flowerforyou:

@nicole--5 miles in one weekend is incredible--oops, make that 6!! :drinker:

@robin--thanks for the chart and the website link!

@toots--so sorry to hear about your friend's mom--that's terrible! Especially since they thought she was getting better--what a shock!

@christine--congrats on getting the house cleaned--that's always such a great feeling. Gunner also used to bark at the vacuum (never the broom though). I had to work very hard to train him to leave it alone b/c not only would he bark, he would try to bite it too. He's much better now--it still makes him nervous but he just leaves the room.

@niche--good luck with the job interview! :flowerforyou:

@jt--great job losing 2 lbs. Yeah, I wish I were a better cook--I guess I'm not really that bad at it, but I just don't enjoy it. I've done pretty good at learning to make some healthy staples, but I still don't enjoy the task.

@karenleona--mmm! peanut butter and frozen strawberries sounds delicious!!!

    My exercise plan this week:
    Sat = gym + walk dog--DONE!!
    Sun = walk dog + mow lawn/pull weeds--DONE!!
Mon = walk dog + some sort of core work--DONE!!
Tues = long run outside w/ dog or gym + walk dog (weather dependent)
Wed = gym + walk dog
Thurs = core work (it's Open House at school so not sure if I will even get to this)
    Fri = walk dog
Sat = gym + walk dog
Sun = gym + walk dog

@naceto way to go on all that walking this weekend.
@marori - Sorry you are hurting so much.

This weekend has been a busy one lots of fun. Birthday party Saturday, BBQ Sunday, than 2 today. Yesterday i didn't stick to my plan ate food choices I don't normally for dinner. Though I was still under I for sure did not feel good last night. Challenges me to eat healthier I feel better. Today went ok able to get some walking in with Bella helps in getting myself off the sofa. Also took some time on Saturday to get my house tidy up too.

Taking some time now to just relax and start focusing on getting organized for the work week.

I am sorry if I miss anyone. I do read all the posts my mind is just shutting down now.

Thank you take care of yourselves.

    Hello I am back!!

@skinny i really want to try those noodles. I think I would use them in asian type dishes from what I have read too.
also I look how you spell out your workouts for the week. great planning like creating a menu for the week.

monday check in- doing well with food and losing some of thepounds i gained after surgery. Walked last evening and today about 2 miles each time and now my knees are yelling at me. Going to see the ortho specialist tomorrow and hopefully he will agree to give me a new knee.

Robin- you have been on my mind a lot as you prepare for your upcoming surgery. Very bizarre that the laxative has not been working. I am sure you are also drinking a lot of water. Look out when everything starts to work!

Hi liz! Yeah, I would also warn you to go slowly when you first try them. I was so eager to try them different ways that I ate 2 bags in 2 days, and though they say they contain <1 gram of fiber/serving, well let's just say if robin's laxative doesn't work...:blushing:

I started making the lists in college when I had loads of homework. I find it really satisfying and motivating to get to check off what I've accomplished. I had really gotten away from them, but started them up again on this thread last year when I was feeling overwhelmed by grading. I'm not super-organized (other than in my head), but the lists help bring some order to my workload.

    Speaking of which:

    Grading goals for the weekend:
    1. 5/58 creative writing stories
    2. 48/48 "Columber" responses--DONE!!!
    3. prep for Advanced Grammar class--DONE!!!

Didn't finish everything, but made a good dent. Tomorrow, I am collecting some more papers, so I will make a new list then.
  • Absolutely love this suggestion and since I'm new to MFP and want to start off right I figured I'd start by checking in! :) I've lost 45(ish) pounds but have 65(ish) to go..

    Anyways...

Monday-I am doing GREAT!! Discovered MFP and downloaded the app, can't wait to start using it!! I am off of vaca as of tomorrow, had a great break, it was nice to re-juice my batteries but difficult to eat healthy and stay on track with exercising as I'm staying with in-laws and eating what they eat. I would say that my success this weekend (and last week) was making OK choices...not GREAT choices but I could've been A LOT worse and seeing as I was on vacation I think I deserve to give myself a pat on the back!!

    Lost 2 lbs this week.

Today I got nearly 12,000 steps in just getting ready for the school opening tomorrow. Spent the whole day painting, building, putting up bulletin boards, cleaning, cleaning, cleaning, etc. It looks great! I can't wait for 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning.

Have to share a smile (and slight frustration). We were trying to finish off the PreK room and ran out of taxicab yellow paint with just a 2 foot square section left to go. So, I went to Wal-mart and got a quart of it mixed and headed to the check out. I was carrying the can by its side since the guy said the little paint dot on top was wet. Just a few feet from the register, I felt something wet on my hand so I slung around to see what it was and felt then heard the lid of the can fall onto my hand then the floor. As I looked around, I had been slinging taxicab yellow paint for more than 30 feet through the aisles of Wal-mart. I'm laughing now, but I don't think it was funny then. Unfortunately, about a cup of it landed on my leather shoes (high-gloss enamel). I had to remove my shoes and walk through Wal-mart sock-footed. Never put my shoes back on because I didn't want to get it in the school building.

Sad note though - someone highjacked my email account/card and spent at least $50 online. I'm hoping I caught it quick enough to save a lot of heartache. However, it now leaves me with no way to easily get cash or make purchases until I get my new card.

Back to the Future - want to keep my calories under minimum instead of relying on exercise to burn the extra ones.

If pigs fly why can't I? - I think the new school opening is this one for me today.

@toots so sorry about your friend's mom

thanks. it was a terrible shock. but in a way i guess it's better since she got to go home and celebrate a birthday and be with her family and friends and died without the stress of even knowing she was dying. i guess if you have to go that's the way.

    SEPTEMBER GOALS:

    1. BACK TO THE FUTURE: Getting back on plan. Each of us shall recommit to our lifestyle change in a way thats personal to us.

    2. PIGS FLY, WHY CAN"T I? Try something new, exercise or play, or food!

I had to jump ahead, sorry I didn't get to read everyone's posts. I'll try to catch up tomorrow. I had a nice weekend. I need to mow the yard for the first time in almost 2 months (cause it's been so dry), and I'm dreading it. Not only because I hate to mow, even though it's an awesome workout, but because of my training schedule at the gym, I have to do 30 mins AT the gym a week, which means I'll have to go in tomorrow. I never did find a bathing suit. :( But I think I'll mow, put on my crappy, wont' stay in place suit and go for a nice leisurly swim.

    Sept. Goals

    1. Getting back to healthier breakfasts. I've not been doing so well there lately, and as a result my sweet tooth is acting up again!

    2. We try at least 1 new meal a week, so I'm covered there. Who would have thought I would like peppers so much!

@raven--I have the same problem with my husband--he just doesn't know how to take control of Gunner on a walk. I've tried to tell him and show him the right way to walk him, but DH just doesn't listen and then complains when Gunner almost tears his arm out of the socket. ohwell

@Skinny Pretty much the same. I have theories of why dad has so much trouble controlling Kenzie- everything ranging from the fact that he's tense when walking her, he doesn't trust her and he lacks confidence in his ability to control her but I think I can teach him... just gonna take time. He said he was gonna go with My fiance, Nero, Kenzie and me to the park tomorrow, both for her and because we've been having a situation at the park that I'm concerned might escalate.

We have leash laws here and there is this dude that, for the past several days, has come there while we're there with his dogs off leash. Most of the time it wouldn't bother me, but he's been close enough to see Kenzie wearing her vest ("Working dog- DO NOT PET") and her muzzle and yet he continues to follow us around the park and throw the toy for his dogs... right at us. She's barked at him once and yet he persists- kinda makes me a bit weary, and a bit tense, which unfortunately Kenzie picks up on.

Monday Check-in: Mostly nothing new to report here. Been keeping up with my walking and I've hardly been at my computer. Most of my exercise and food is reported from my phone lol. BIG NSV though- I'm actually having to take in a couple of pairs of pants because they keep falling off of me! I feel like I stand 10 feet tall!

Tuesday Goals: Well, right now I haven't set much of a goal at this particular moment in time. I'm shooting for a weigh in here soon- I've consistently been losing inches on my waist so I'm not overly concerned with numbers but it'd be nice to know where I stand lol. Other than that, I plan to continue my walks with my dogs around the park and I hope that by the end of the week I can start taking Kenzie's muzzle off at the park. I don't know if it'll be that soon though, but that's the idea.

Another goal I plan on keeping up with is making more freshly prepared foods to munch on- over the weekend I was getting hammered with requests for homemade pizza (everyone discovered I can make pizza dough from scratch and have homemade pizzas cheaper than store bought or ordered out) and other things we discovered I can use the dough for (like homemade hot pockets- those were goooood).

I am proud of myself though, as I've managed to only have one piece of the chocolate cake that was requested (I'm not a big chocolate fan so it worked out well for me, though I have to say it was good) and two small bowls of ice cream. I think I can do better but I know I can do a lot worse too lol.

I'd also love to start keeping up with this thread more. :/
  • HI! My name is Beth, and I have been trolling message boards for about a month (I'm really not that creepy -- I just don't commit easily). Anyway, this one is by far the best (because the format's great and everyone seems so supportive and inspiring) so I've finally decided to join the conversation. My Tuesday Goal is to get out on the water (swimming and/or kayaking) at least three times this week, despite the rain and my extra pre-vacation days at work. For September goals: 1) Back to the Future: re-commit to healthy eating, especially as summer winds down and I can't swim to burn the extra calories (I'm allergic to chlorine, so I can only swim in the great outdoors, which is time-limited in Connecticut) and 2) Pigs Fly, Why Can't I: Well, this isn't exactly something I've never done, but it has been a while and it does seem implausible at the moment. Next Friday, September 14th, I will strap an approximately-40-pound backpack onto my 320+pound frame and go for a 6-day, 65-mile hike in the (mountainous)woods! Yep, if pigs fly, why can't I?

Addition to my Monday Check In, I weighed myself this morning and had lost two pounds. This means I am back under 17 stone, now I aim for the 16 stone mark.

Tuesday Goals...to increase my intensity of my gym work outs so I increase my calorie burn to 300 calories in 30 minutes (currently it is around 240/250, as well as starting using my exercise apps each day.

    SEPTEMBER GOALS:

    1. BACK TO THE FUTURE: I'm going to commit to keeping my carb\fat\protein ratios in the 40-30-30 range

    2. PIGS FLY, WHY CAN"T I? I'm going to start lifting tonight. I've had workout equipment at home that I haven't used since christmas of last year and I have a workout bench in the basement that needs cleaned. I'm going to wipe that down and move it out in the middle of the basement and use it on days I don't run on the treadmill. I had workout bands and a medicine ball and a pair of 15 pound weights. I also found a cheap set of dumb bells that I'm planning to buy once I'm in the habit of lifting again. This should really boost the results with the eat more program too because the food will be better metabolized with the gained muscle I'll develop.

As far as my current weight, I actually gained a pound over the labor day weekend. My fats and carbs were unusually high and I didn't workout the way I would've liked. Oh well, it was a holiday weekend. I kind of expected it. I did stay under my TDEE for all three days I was off work and figured out how to make smoothies!
  • Hi ya'll:flowerforyou: ....had a great 3 day weekend....LOTS to do...but did well, for 2 out of the 3 days.... Gotta Run!

I haven't read up on any posts since Friday. The staycation was very needed and relaxing.

Tuesday Goal - determined to get back on track with the food I consume and exercise. Today I am going to start with 10 sit ups and atleast a 30 minute walk.

Good morning everyone. Hope you all had a great long weekend. Mine was pretty good. Welcome to our new people. I am sure you will love this thread.

Tuesday goal: My goal is actually not weight related this week. My husband is supposed to be coming home from alaska this weekend so this week is all about getting the house ship shape before he gets here. Should be some good exercise though with the deep cleaning.

I have been thinking on the september goals and I dont think I am quite at the phase of recomitting yet since I just started this journey a month ago and so far so good. As for trying something new I have been looking at workout dvds and am going to order a couple this week so I can start working out at something other then walking.
  • I've been away for a bit, but I'm glad to be back and get my head back in this. Fortunately, my Labor Day weekend binge didn't impact the scale at all...still 238.1. Phew!

Tuesday Goal: Stay focused. I told my mom that I am not buying any more new clothes until I need them (meaning that I've gone down a size and all my current clothes don't fit me).

    Have a great Tuesday!
