Robin- It's your party. You can cry if you want to! I hope the next couple weeks aren't TOO hard on you as you wait for surgery. I can't imagine all that you're dealing with. I'm proud of you for cleaning even though you were so down. Aside from stress eating, cleaning is my outlet for stress.
Skinny- I just thought you were eating offensive cookies...you ARE in a big city where anything could happen! :laugh: I'm glad it was just chocolate chunk and not chocolate...ahem.
Nettie- I'm a cleaner, raised by a neat freak. But, I think you are better at it then me, so if you can't stand your house any more, you are welcome to come scrub mine for a while! :laugh:
The kids are gone to my in-laws' house. I made a delicious salmon with dill sauce, green beans and beer bread for dinner. Now DH is washing the dishes while I put my feet up! On deck for tomorrow is exercise, hotel, dinner and a movie. Tonight is laundry and packing.

Fitness- I did some great climbing tonight and I pushed myself a little harder than normal. The good news was that I made it over the ledge on the first try tonight. That is awesome for me since I usually have trouble getting over the overhangs the first time. In addition, this was at the end of my climbing time so I was surprised that I still had the strength and energy in my arms and legs to accomplish the task.
Tomorrow, I will be doing water aerobics and going for a swim. Then I will pick up my bike from the shop since it is ready. I will also go pick up a new battery for my heart rate monitor/watch and maybe a run? It will be a busy weekend but at least the weather will be nice.

Finally got to water aerobics and DH came along. He admitted that he felt so much better going and is recommitting to going three times a week. That will help me. I stayed over and did my yoga poses in the pool. Neighbors called and invited us out to Frontera (again!!) Bill really wanted to go because of the invite but I knew it was going to be pitsville for me. I wish I were more assertive but didnt want to disappoint DH. Had fajitas, a few bites of refried beans, passed over the rice, still slightly under but I was hoping for an excellent loss this week. Starting to tell my loss by ways clothes fit, but I have so far to go. Did insist hubby walk with me when we got home
KAH: PROBABLY WATER THAT WILL DROP IN A DAY OR SO, BUT VERY DISCOURAGING.
JNETTIE: WHAT KIND OF FLOORS ARE YOU GETTING? CERAMIC? WE HAVE DELAYED GETTING OUR BECAUSE OF THE DUST. After enduring so much dust from wood floors, we found out that the carpenter could have stopped a lot of this by putting an attachment on his saw to catch the dust. We asked the ceramic guy about that and it doesnt work with ceramic, but we do want ceramic in our kitchen. We have solid cherry wood floors and they get wet too much
Aimee Marie - The best sucess I ever had with weight loss was when I planned and prepared my meals for the week on sunday nights, refrigerated them and just heat them up when I got in from work. Really helped
TLJ0407 - Ouch!! That can be really painful and can be serious. Glad you are changing exercises to accommodate. I should have picked Outback. Doing the banquet sounds like lots of fun. thought for time with kids -- Could you walk and have them walk with you? Would that work for you?

Friday fitness-I have had my longest walks this week. Tonight was the longest to date, 4.3 miles. I'm still in awe of those of you who are doing so much fitness, but I am grateful that I can walk.
Teresa, my formula for success is pretty simple. I count my calories, log everything, and walk. I try to not use many of my exercise calories, and rarely go over my daily goal. You need to be accountable to someone. My friends here on Robin's thread keep me accountable.

Good Morning and Happy Saturday!
Last night Brian and I went out for another walk. I use Digifit (app on my phone) to track out walks. It uses the GPS to map out your route and calculate miles. We did 3.9 miles in an hour and 14 minutes. This was our longest walk to date. I was looking at the log on the app and noticed that it seems like out pace has quickened a bit. I never realized it but think it is fantastic.
Which brings me to my Fitbit. On the home page of the app I have it set up to tell me active minutes. Fitbit and Digifit sync together and both also sync with MFP. I have noticed though all week long Fitbit is not logging active minutes for me. After I synced last night it gave me the steps but only put in 2 active minutes. It's not a huge deal because I know what I did and also tracked with another app. Though, I couldn't help feeling disappointed that it only registered my walk as 2 minutes. Has anyone else experienced this before with their Fitbit?

Laurie - I cannot remember, are you on Spring Break this upcoming week too? I have a question for you regarding your HRM. Is yours a chest strap? If so, how comfortable do you find the strap? Do you find it annoying when you are working out? I've been curious about them and down the road would love to purchase one.
Teresa - Welcome. MFP definitely does work. I found it is best in the beginning to work on 1 goal at a time rather than trying to focus on everything at once. Set your goals for something that you know you can do such as get in some type of physical activity at least 3 times a week. Once you accomplish that build upon that goal making it a bit more challenging. Another thing that has helped me tremendously was investing in a digital scale. I weight everything and log it right before I am about to sit down and eat. This has helped me relearn what portion sizes should be rather than what I think they are. Don't be afraid to experiment with different things until you find what works best for you. Best of luck to you!
Katrena - We had ceramic floors originally. The dust is from the floors being ripped up, then sanding down the concrete. (We have a slab house) We are replacing it with Bamboo in a cherry red color. It is going to be beautiful once it is done. We also had to have our bathroom done. We replaced it with another ceramic floor. We picked the cheapest thing we could find in a neutral color for that room because we plan on gutting the bathroom in a few years and remodeling it. When the plumbers had to break through the floors they used the attachment. It did cut down significantly on the dust but you still get enough to annoy the heck out of you. LOL Brian decided to rip out the rest of the floor himself and didn't use an attachment so we got a lot of dust from that. Then when John came in he had to go back over and meticulously level out the floors. He used an attachment but again there still was a lot of dust. This project has been going on since February. :grumble: We had to wait for the insurance check to come in before we could move forward. This gave us time to remove the rest of the flooring to save costs. But thankfully next week it will finally come to an end.
Kaye - Congrats on the long walk. I have not broken 4 miles yet but I feel it is coming soon.

Ushkii - isn't amazing how many times we have to start anew at this diet thing before we really get the hang of it. You are doing head and hands better than me this time. I am SO PROUD of you for all the effort you are putting it this time. You are going to be a success. For all the bouncing around I have done, and even with the setback of my sickness, I am still down weight overall. You will be too!
KJeffries - How do you like LUMINOSITY? is it worth the money? Is it helping you? I was thinking of giving it as a gift to my guy pal because he is 10 years older than me and worryed about getting Alzheimers. I see no sign of that but his dad got it at a late age. So I value your opinion!
Laurie - sorry your bike got smashed. I always thought those bike racks were silly, now they make sense.
tih - I have one friend who splits his exercise throughout the day. He even rides a sttionary bike right before bed. He says it doesn't make him feel like staying awake! Go figure.

Just me, heading out for an 8 mile training walk... I should buy shares in KT Tape. Current tape job is for a fibial nerve entrapment, and extensor tendinopathy. We rocked the 8 miles, but frig it hurts. Getting discouraged, as I've been dealing with ankle pain for almost 3 years now and have been in physio for almost a year. Has anyone else dealt with chronic injuries?
Also, I'm down one toenail and have another one just about ready to fall off... the joys of a distance walker. Our half marathon is on May 11th and then we have a two month break before starting training for the next one - might be enough time for my toenails to grow back!0 -

Well, this is my final post for a week. I'm going to miss you guys immensely. I hope everyone has a great weekend and an even better week ahead. Stay positive. Log every day. Try to get in some kind of movement every day. Encourage each other every day. I'm really looking forward to my time away and completely disconnecting from work and getting myself refocused. The past year or so has really been some ups and downs, but I've been hanging on. I'll get back on track and refocused. I'm so excited to spend some quiet time, but also some quality time with Cyrus.
Thank you again for your support and friendship. We head tonight on the 11:45 p.m. red eye from Vegas to Atlanta to Ft. Lauderdale. We land tomorrow around 9:50 a.m. We can board the ship around Noon and departs at 4:00. Bon Voyage my friends!!!!0 -
Today was a great day and I enjoyed the great weather. Tomorrow is another nice day, so I am planning on riding and running tomorrow.
I swam today and was able to do a couple of 300 m using one stroke instead of mixing them up. That felt good and I believe I am getting faster in the water so that is a positive.
Nettie, I have the polar heartrate monitor PT 7 with a chest strap. I really like it and the strap does not bother me. It is a soft strap with a simple closure you just hook it. The only deal is that the strap needs to be tight to get an accurate reading. I had to replace the battery today but you can get a battery anywhere. The watch battery last for a little over 1 year and the transmitter last for 2500 hours. It will track how long I exercised, heart rate and calories burned. It also tells you the amount of time you were in fitness and fat burn.

Hi all, I'm Ann , New here. I 've been on MFP for about a year lost my 7% and went on maintenance for a few months ( I'm working with a nutritionist) Gained back 8 pounds and now I'm on round 2..I think the real key is to keep tracking. No mater how well I think I'm monitoring mentally, lt makes a difference doing it on the computer. It must be more honest than me, lol0

We've all found that out to be true here !
Laurie - you are killing it on the triathalon practices! I am so impressed with your joy in each activity. I would love the long distance swimming the most. I did it in my teens (mostly 300 m's) and I was competitive, so I know the pleasure it gives. I even love the smell of chlorine. My pool is working out great for my exercises, but with my diseases my body around my upper shoulders has changed and its not so easy to swim laps any more. I have a big hump on my shoulders caused by the prednisone I take. I'm hoping it goes away someday when I can come off the drug as it interferes with my favorite stroke, the breaststroke, and the backstroke. Luckily I can still freestyle, and do a wicked modified back stroke.
You did a great job at rock-climbing, esp. getting over that overhang on the first try, considering it was at the end of your energy! Your strength is really improving! :flowerforyou:
tcl1mbd1 - welcome to this thread! We've all been where you are, just starting out. The best advice I can give a beginner is to use the logging feature and record all your food. Every bite, lick and taste should be included. THeres a great data base and you'll find all the prepared foods there and theres a recipe builder you can calculate home cooked meals too. Use the MFP calculator to determine how many calories to eat per day , and choose an activity you feel you can do several days a week. Decide how or what you are going to say to yourself when you overeat, so that you do NOT get discouraged and quit. We all do this "overeating" thing. It happens. Getting back on the wagon is a frequent thing, its part of the forward momentum you want to create in your life. This is a lifestyle change, not a temporary, diet.
LittleShadow - my reaction is :noway: I have no idea how you endure that! Sports medicine is way way beyond what I have ever achieved. :laugh: Glad you have physio - although a year sounds unbearable but you must love running dearly! Hope things work out for you!
ann27eliot - welcome! Glad you have a year on MFP. This is a lifestyle change, so we stumble a bit. No big deal. Its a learning curve, don't you think? Me, I've been on here since 2012 and had several ups and downs, and now am due for surgery Ap. 29 and definitely have gained some weight due to that. No excuse, but life happens. COME BACK OFTEN!

Did go see Captain America and it was great - although it was so fast paced and full of explosions that it was hard to follow the story line sometimes, but you really didn't have to. :happy: It had a great ending! I just am blown away by the CGI effects in use. You don't know whats real and whats not any more. And by the way, Robert Redford still has it ladies.0 -
@Robin - my son and mom saw Captain America yesterday and loved it. I'm sorry for your lack of sleep and medication problems, sure hope you can get sorted out and feeling better soon! Just to clarify, I'm not a runner... I only run if something is chasing me, and even then I need to really weigh the pros and cons. I'm a racewalker, only.
@ushkii - our garden is still a dream at this point, we're still under snow here!

Sunday Share: for the newbies, I'm Heidi, 36, from Eastern Canada. I'm a full-time working mom of two great boys (12 and 8) with cognitive and behavioural issues. I work in a daycare, cooking for 57 kids daily and also spend a few hours in the classrooms every day. Racewalking is my torture of choice, and I am now officially 1/3 of my way to my 100 lb goal. First half marathon of 2014 is coming up on May 11th (we have a second one scheduled for October, which I'm hoping will give me time to get my ankle under control in between)

@laurie--great NSV with getting over the ledge. I've only tried rock climbing once, and it's way hard! I'm in awe of your ability to do those difficult climbs--I couldn't even get all the way up the easiest wall.
@heidi--sorry you are in such pain from your ankle. :grumble: I've had to deal with a few injuries--plantar fascitis, a torn meniscus, and other various knee injuries. Some of these come and go depending on how diligently I stretch, wear my orthotics, etc. However, none has been persistently painful like what you are experiencing with your ankle. I hope that after your May half, you can make some real progress with your PT.
@nettie--that's weird about your fitbit only recording your walk as 2 minutes. I don't own one, but my friend I was at the conference with in Chicago has one. She was telling me she gets annoyed b/c hers doesn't track when you run down stairs only up. She goes to a bootcamp fitness class, and they often run stadium stairs which is really hard work. However, she only gets credit for half the time and calories b/c it doesn't count her movement down the stairs. :ohwell: Hope you get it all figured out.
@katrena--at first I thought you were talking about going to Rick Bayless' restaurant when you mentioned Frontera, and I thought "Wow, Katrena must be pretty wealthy if she's talking about going to his restaurant 'again!' b/c I've been there once and it's not cheap!" My next thought was, "Since when did Bayless open a Frontera outside of Chicago?" Then I googled it to see and found a Georgia chain which I realized is what you were talking about. :laugh: Regardless, it sounds like you did a great job of making good choices. Fajitas are usually a pretty safe choice, and skipping the rice probably helped as well.
@hansea--Chicago can get crazy, but that would be taking it to a new level! :laugh:
@tanya--what wonderful progress you have made!! :drinker: About not eating over TDEE--I've had that same experience with realizing that even if I'm not always perfectly meeting my goal, that I'm still rarely over maintenance calories. You are doing such a great job! Keep going!! :drinker:

I got in a lot of exercise while at my conference. Thursday, my friend and I walked before lunch, and then I went for another walk after lunch. After dinner at Weber Grill, a group of us chose to walk as well. Then Friday we walked to lunch and home from dinner again. My friend and I also went for a run before dinner on Friday which was a lot of fun b/c I so rarely get to run down by Lake Michigan. Finally, Saturday morning I went for a brisk walk looking for an ATM, and when I got home from the conference I took gunner for a run around the neighborhood. So even though I was over my calories, I got in a lot of good exercise. I made up for some of the calories yesterday, but I still have 449 calories to make up over the next few days. My plan is to try to make up for the bulk of that today at the gym.

I'm karen--HS English Lit. teacher from Chicago. I've been at this for a few years now, and after spending the last year or so in maintenance mode, I'm ready to move forward with getting rid of the rest of the weight. I'm currently fluctuating between 187-190 and I would like to get down to at least 170. Once I'm there, I will decide if I need to lose more. I'm currently a size 12 (US) pants and would like to get into an 8 b/c I've never worn single digit pants before, and I think that size is probably the lowest realistic goal for me, given my bone structure and muscle mass.
Need to get going to walk gunner before the rain returns. Then I need to head to school and grade some journals before hitting the gym.

Sunday Share: My nickname is Robin, my real name is Ellen, but I prefer Robin, been called that for so long on-line. I am a 62-y/o woman living in a cute little condo in Omaha, NE. I don' t have any kids and I'm divorced after a 20 year marriage. I am somewhat disabled and am on Social Security Disability and income is always a problem (can anyone else relate to that? :laugh: ) I trained as an LPN and after a career in medical sales spend 19 years working as a Neurosurgeon's staff assistant and I loved my job and I sure do appreciate the medical knowledge I gained. I started this thread the day I started on MFP to find friends and create a support group - I had no idea it would last or grow into such a strong and supportive group. I've had great success losing weight with their support. Unfortunately lately I have a new illness that has caused me to be not to be active and to eat to sooth mouth pain. I am having surgery 4/29 and things will change after ! :flowerforyou:0

Hello Friends.
Sorry I didn't make it by yesterday – I woke with a headache so pretty much slept the morning away. After that I did some deep cleaning (that was my exercise for the day) and some shopping at Home Depot for more paint samples, then Kohl’s and grocery shopping & church last night.
I also spent the majority of the afternoon texting back and forth with a friend regarding the cruise we booked on the ship in March for next year. We’re going back to AK but decided to switch from a land cruise itinerary to a back-to-back – price is about the same and we’ll be able to hit some different areas of the inside passage. It’s the same ship we were on for AK in ’12 and Panama, at least I know the layout! :laugh:
@Nettie~If I remember correctly, the very active minutes on Fitbit are when you are exercising at a high intensity so my guess is your walking pace wasn’t enough for Fitbit to consider “high intensity.” It does that to me too! I know you asked Laurie, but I use a HRM for cardio – mine is a Garmin Forerunner 210, it uses a chest strap but I don’t even notice it. I mostly do zone training so it’s a bit more advanced than others on the market, but I it! It’s a great HRM for runners.
@Tanya~Not being well prepared with healthy snacks can totally derail a day. Excellent NSVs!!!
@Tracy~I’m sorry for your injury, sounds like you strained your Achilles – it’s from the jumping, that puts tremendous pressure on your Achilles. I can do the slightest thing and mine will swell like nobody’s business. Achilles injuries take a really long time to heal since there is very little blood flow to that area, so take care of it – ice often and take anti-inflammatories to help with any swelling.

@Heidi~I don’t know how you keep up with all of that walking after enduring injuries, I’m the same way though. My knee hasn’t been the same since a meniscusectomy in 2012 and I have continual Achilles issues after tearing it many years ago – but we must march on!
Sunday Share~For the newbies – I’m Kelley, 45, and an accountant in the healthcare industry living in north central Texas. I also have a Maine Coon, Zoe, who allows me to live with her – she’s a character. I’ve been on this weight loss journey for a long time, having lost over 100# with still a little ways to go. I love to exercise so belong to a gym and work out with a personal trainer that constantly challenges me. I love to travel, mostly by cruise ship.
AFM~No formal exercise yesterday but did a lot of deep cleaning around the house and replaced toilet seats in bathrooms (hate spending money on that stuff). I’m kind of in spring cleaning/home improvement mode lately so today I’ll do some work in laundry/storage room, have a session with my trainer this afternoon. Not sure what the week will hold for exercise schedule since I have a software upgrade meeting on Monday and then the vendor will be onsite on Tuesday – so I will post those goals later.0 -

Once again, I'm sorry that I'm not coming here every day like I was a while ago. It's midterms, and I'm having a lot of summer plan issues which are driving me to the edge of my breaking point with stress. I promise I'll make a better effort
I've been getting at least 30 mins of cardio in every day, often a lot more, but I'm really having some trouble with my knee when I try to run. The outer, upper side of my left knee sort of half tingles, half hurts about 2k in, and it just gets worse and worse, until I've got some tingly pain all down the side of my leg. I've been stopping once it gets bad with every step, and keep hoping it will go away, but no such luck. I'm really worried about losing my running fitness I worked SO hard to work up to just after my first race, but I guess I just need to keep going out and trying it.
Weighed in yesterday, and I'm at 219.5, which is where I was about 3 weeks ago before I mysteriously gained 4 pounds of stress weight (biologically impossible stress weight...). Trying to not get frustrated, but now I will most certainly not make my goal of being in Onederland by the time I'm 21 unless I see a "whoosh" very soon.

I'm having a super hard time with deciding what I'm doing this summer. I got a fellowship that looks great on paper in Northern California, but they were deceptive about my housing and pulled a bait and switch, telling me I'd have to do a homestay. Now they're saying (after nagging) they'll do what they would originally do and pay my rent, but I'm nervous about that, and have a gut reaction not to do it, despite the fact that it would be the best thing for me to do for my future objectively. I also got the job summer coordinating the outdoor orientation here over the summer, and it would pay more, and am a runner up for a prestigious internship in my hometown. I find out tomorrow if I got the internship, and if I did I could do that for 6 weeks and two months doing the summer coordinating thing, which sounds fantastic. I don't know what to do, and I'm having a hard time deciding what would be best for my health, wellbeing and weight loss goals as opposed to just my purely academic goals. I know it's a silly thing to be stressed out about, but I'm terrible at making decisions!
Goal for the next 4 weeks (eek! That's how long I have left in class) is to get exercise 6 days a week for at least 30 mins, don't go overboard with sweets, and try and get at least 6 hours of sleep. Finals is when I always fall apart and sabotage my help and I won't let that happen this time.
Thanks for listening to the whine. Sometimes when I'm having a weak moment I give myself a 5 min studybreak to peek in here and see how you all are doing, and it always helps.

Here is a brief recap for the newbies. I am Jeanette, 41 years old. Married to Brian. Special Education teacher - teach children with autism. I have 2 cats, a bird and turtle. I love animals. Have a lot of hobbies; cooking, gardening, drawing, arts and crafts, anything to do with nature. I love being on the water and swimming. Dolphins are my favorite animal. I have been a vegetarian since my 20's.
Looking at my exercise for the past week I am a bit disappointed with myself that I only managed to fit in strength training 1x though I am extremely proud that I got in 6 days of exercise. My goal for this week is to get in strength training at least 3x. My other plan for the week is spending a lot of time working outside in the gardens. John is supposed to come back one day this week and finish the floors so I imagine I will also be doing a lot of cleaning this week and putting everything back together.
Littleshadow - Sorry to hear you are in chronic pain. Do you find the tape helps when you are walking a lot? Gasp to the toenail. I read in the forums somewhere of this happening to some runners as well. Do you know what causes it? I imagine friction from your sneakers against your toes? I hope it never happens to me. I like wearing open toed shoes and flip flops in the warmer weather. :noway: I sent you a Fitbit request.
Laurie - Thanks for the info on the HRM. Does the strap come in different sizes? Let's say to fit someone who is larger?
Ann - Welcome to the forum. I agree with continuing to track rather than mental log. I do so much better when I track and measure everything I consume.
Robin - Sorry to hear you cannot sleep. I am glad to hear you enjoyed the movie. Brian wants to go see it so I imagine we will sometime soon.
Skinny - That must be annoying for your friend when it doesn't track while running down the stairs. I checked on the Fitbit site and a few other users have had the same issue that I had. I found a response from a few days ago from a mod saying this is a known problem and the developers are currently working to fix it. It seems to be working today. It registered my walk for the proper amount of time so I will just chalk it up to a one time blip.
Sounds like you were very busy getting in all that exercise. The run around the lake must have been beautiful.
Kah - That could possibly be the issue I had as well. That was the first time it had never registered a workout of mine in active minutes. We've walked so much this past week that I don't remember how brisk it was. As I mentioned above, I also found other users posted about the same issue. It seems to be working well now so I will keep my fingers crossed!
I am intrigued by your HRM as well. Does the strap come in different sizes or is it adjustable to fit someone who is a bit larger?
I had another Fitbit "problem" with decreasing steps but before I came on here I did some research on my own and got my answer. :laugh:
Rain - I have no answer on your knee issue. Have you seen a doctor about it? I can understand how you don't want to lose your running fitness as you worked really hard. My only concern about pushing yourself is that you could be causing more damage to it. I ended up not going to the doctor for my knee pain as I didn't think it warranted it. Instead I backed off on the intensity of my workouts I get from running and kickboxing and dropped down to walking briskly. I have been pain free since doing so.
It sounds like you have a lot to think about regarding the fellowship. I am sure whatever you decide things will workout just fine.

Little Shadow-Great job on reach 33 pounds lost. I hope you can get the ankle issues to go away.
Nettie- the chest strap is expandable and is large. I am sure the website will also give you some information on the sizes available. Yeah on making 6 days of exercise this week.
Rain- I would suggest holding back on the running for right now and give your knee a chance to heal. You will not loose your running fitness overnight and the knee pain could be a warning that something more serious is going on. Try to find a low impact exercise that you can do or go to a pool. Remember that you can run shorter distances and still keep your fitness level. Please listen to your body and give your legs some rest. Good luck with deciding what to do this summer, they all sound like good opportunities.
Kelley- I will also be cleaning this week. I have a room that really needs a deep cleaning. Hope you get some good exercise in this week and the software meetings are not to bad.
Karen- I am surprised that your school is open on the weekends. Ours are locked unless there is a special event going on at the school and even then we can't always get into the building. Good luck with the journals.
I am Laurie, 43, single and I teach middle school science. I started this journey almost 3.5 years ago with the intention of getting healthy and losing weight. I lost most of my weight in the first year and have been maintaining since then with my weight hovering around 195-200lbs. I would like to get down to 188 or lower. During this journey my level of activity has increased and I am doing things that I never thought possible or had no interest in attempting. I am currently training for a triathlon and a couple of 5 K runs.
Today, I managed to ride 26.22 miles on my bike then I came home and ran .5 miles. The run was the hardest part but I did it anyway. I will run again tomorrow for a longer distance if my legs will tolerate it. My friend and I biked the upper part of the B and A trail then around BWI airport. We have several nice bike trails around here so that makes biking a little easier. The best is knowing that I can bike a marathon and still have energy left over to run.

Sunday share: just briefly for the newbies, I live in Western Idaho, am 69 years old, and have a large family. My oldest grandchild is 19 years old today. I am so proud of her. She is a beautiful, talented, and confident young lady. She has just completed her application to serve a church mission. She will know in a few weeks where she will serve.
The scale is 'stuck' again, but I'm riding pretty close to the edge of the wagon these days so I can't expect it to go down very fast. I walked to church and back this morning, but won't get another walk this evening. My back is hurting and really tired tonight for some reason.
My mind is a bit foggy tonight. Please forgive the lack of personals. I check in several times a day. I'm right there with you in your successes and struggles. Onward and downward. Kaye0 -

FINALLY caught up. I had a super long post responding to everyone but the internet ate it. The only responses I have now are the tabs still open with quotes I wanted to respond to... three of them. :grumble:I have an area by my recliner that is affectionately known as my nest. I cleaned up the remainders of several projects and threw away a bunch of catalogues.I apologize for how narcissistic I have been with paying so much attention to myself and little attention to everyone elses needs. I can't say I'll change until after the surgery.Friday fitness-I have had my longest walks this week. Tonight was the longest to date, 4.3 miles. I'm still in awe of those of you who are doing so much fitness, but I am grateful that I can walk.
AFM - Haven't lost anymore weight. Been having some serious self control issues. I did go visit Dr. McHotty Pants for some SERIOUS neck pain. For weeks I haven't been able to look over either shoulder (makes backing out of parking spots interesting). He says I'm way over stressed and that I need to find something to destress me. I told him that I *HAD* a GREAT de stressor but he won't let me eat bags and bags of potato chips and vats of onion dip with tubs and tubs of ice cream anymore.
He prescribed massages (so that my insurance covers most of the cost) and said I better find something, fast.
So this weekend I went bonkers crafting. I FINALLY finished my suitcase cat bed. This is made from the suitcase my dad carried when he came to this country in 1956:

and I picked up 3 glass candle sticks and 3 vases from the dollar store and with epoxy put them together for some apothecary jars for my bathroom. The green stuff in the decanter (estate sale find) is listerine.

I also did some massive cleaning on the apartment and read two books. I'm not sure how relaxed and de-stressed I was but....
I have my food logged for the next work week, now all I have to do is stick to it! :laugh: :laugh: :blushing:

@ann--welcome! :flowerforyou: My husband does most of the cooking in our household. He's learned to adjust to make some of our meals healthier. Sometimes he just does what he wants and lets me know the ingredients. It's fine with me as long as he doesn't get mad if I don't eat it--or only eat a small portion. He used to take that as an insult, but now he knows it's just me meeting my calorie goals.
@kaye--how exciting for your GD! I loved your description of being "close to the edge" of the wagon! :laugh:
@laurie--our school is locked tight on the weekends, but we all have swipe cards to access the building. They are coded for specific hours, so most teachers can get in between 7 am and 10 pm, but some coaches and sponsors have extended access if needed. It's great that you have some nice bike trails to ride. We have some beautiful forest preserves with running trails, but I've never felt safe running them alone. While my friend and I were running together on Friday we talked about trying some of them together (she feels the same way about running alone). It would be a nice change of pace from running my neighborhood.
@nettie--the bike/running path along Chicago's lakefront is gorgeous! I used to live right on the lake while in college (I went to Loyola Chicago), and even after college, my friends and I would go there periodically to walk or roller blade (I didn't run back then). I didn't realize how much I missed it until running there this past week. I'm definitely going to try to make some trips there to run this summer.
Oh, and regarding HRMs. I had an Omron w/ a chest strap. I wouldn't necessarily recommend the HRM (it wasn't great--it broke in about a year, but I won it in a raffle). However, the chest strap was very comfortable--super stretchy and soft. I had the same concerns as you about comfort--especially b/c I have pretty sensitive skin--but I didn't ever have any problems wearing the chest strap. Sometimes I would forget to take it off if I didn't shower immediately after my workout--it was so comfy I couldn't even feel it.
@laura--I agree with laurie and nettie about resting the knee and seeing a doctor. I'm guessing that you have free access to a clinic on campus, so at the very least go there and have it looked at. Like laurie said, ease back in with shorter runs, and maybe wrap or tape it for extra support to see if that helps.
@kelley--the cleaning bug is attacking me as well, but unfortunately, I don't have time right now to start any big projects. Instead I'm making lists (imagine that! :laugh: ) of all of the projects I want to work on this summer. I'm kind of excited b/c my DH is showing some interest in perhaps selling our place and buying a new house. Honestly, the market hasn't been cooperating for the past several years which kind of put him into a very de-motivated state of mind about doing anything more than basic upkeep. Now that there's some hope of actually being able to sell and buy, he seems more interested in getting some rooms cleaned out and painted this summer.
AFM--I walked gunner, went to school, and then graded at starbucks for a while. By the time I got home, it was pouring rain and I still had laundry to finish (was washing all of the bedding). I decided to curl up on the couch with my gunner and grade instead of going to the gym. He needed some "mom" time b/c I was gone for the past few days, and I really needed to grade. I still came in under calories by 209 calories which leave 240 to make up tomorrow.
Also, did my wall sit and plank. I'm up to a minute on the plank--man was that hard!

@kah - Sounds like your scale is on the fritz. I had that happen with one and just had to chuck it and get a new one. Can't really complain since I'd had it a LONG time and use it every day. You're making me jealous by booking another cruise. I wish DH would cave and allow me to do the same, but since he has a big customer putting everything out to bid, probably wise. Hopefully things will go his way and we can commence to planning for travel!
@tlh - Strained Achilles sounds painful. I had plantar fasciitis for about 6 months a few years ago and that was no fun at all. Achilles sounds way worse. Hope it mends quickly.
@susan - Know you can't read this, but I hope your have a fabulous time on your cruise and come back rested and refreshed.

@littleshadow - How long does it take for a toenail to reappear when one falls off? I lost one last week after bruising it 6 months ago and now have only 9 just in time for sandal season. Darn. I got a pedicure on Friday and the lady doing it said she could adhere a fake nail with nail glue, but I was reluctant to cover the nail bed and concerned about fungus. I found an OPI color (Dulce de Leche) that is close to my skin tone so the missing nail is not too terribly obvious. Guess that will be my color for a while.
@robin - Glad to hear Captain America was good. DH wants to see it. Boo on the no sleep. Hope the doc can help.
@skinnyjeanz - Sounds like you did great at the conference and enjoyed yourself. Win, win!
AFM - Had a wonderful weekend with DH, both daughters and one boyfriend. Youngest DDs BF is considering Duke for MBA school and they flew in from Boston so he could attend a class and take the tour. He came away impressed, but still has quite a few schools on his list to look at. We spent Saturday in Chapel Hill (where all 5 of us went to undergrad) just walked around, had lunch and then went to a baseball game. I love that campus so much and just walking through it makes me feel 18 again. I did tell the BF jokingly that we (as Carolina grads and avid fans) would totally support him choosing Duke. Getting my daughter back to NC for a couple years is worth that sacrifice.

@Kris~What a cute bed for the kitties and M0wM0w looks super comfy! I highly recommend massages to de-stress, I don’t have them nearly as often as I should.
@Karen~Sounds like you enjoyed your conference. Hooray for DH being on board for getting some rooms around the house de-cluttered – that will be very helpful if you do decide to purchase another home. When I bought my current house, I made it a point to clear things out – I got to know the guy at Goodwill pretty well. :laugh: The one room I haven’t tackled is the garage and I really need to get out there!
@Laura~I have to agree with the recommendation of others, you need to give your knee a rest. Knee pain is often a sign that you need to step back for a bit, it shouldn’t be messed with – you could do more damage. RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation) is in order – if after you have done that and you are still having pain you need to see a doctor, you could have an injury that may not heal without medical intervention.
@Nettie~The HRM chest strap is adjustable – as Karen suggested it’s a soft elastic, adjustable strap. They come in a couple of different sizes, but you’ll just need the one that comes with the HRM (trust me). Don’t worry too much about missing strength training days last week, between your walks with Brian and marathon cleaning from the floors you worked hard!
@L2T~You can usually book cruises up to 18-months in advance, maybe you can get a deposit on one that way cabin choices are wide open. You can always change your booking later if you need to. We always put a deposit down during a cruise, if it’s done on the ship its just $100 and they give you $50-$100 of OBC (depends on length and cabin category) – have to cruise w/i two years. After a second trip to AK, I sure would like to tick off some bucket list cruises – Iceland/Norway is on my radar! Sounds like you had a great weekend!
AFM~Great session with my trainer yesterday, we hit the weights pretty hard – new PB on the leg press, 450#. :huh: We worked up to it with two sets of 15 at 180# then two sets of 15 at 270#, when he added two more plates to each side I thought he was crazy but my legs are ridiculously strong. I was able to do two sets of 10. He had a good laugh when a guy went over to the machine and took off those additional plates then said I needed a t-shirt that said “your max is my warm-up.” :laugh: My dead-lifts (100#) even felt easier yesterday, so he’s going to increase the weight on that next time also. I thought for sure I would be super sore today, but so far so good.

Just a quick check in... had a busy weekend with BF. We did a lot of hiking on Saturday, then took a day trip to Belleville/Napanee, which is about 3 hours away from home to complete some geocaching challenges. Not as much walking, but I almost got 10.000 steps in while making short trips at several stops.
I have a Polar RS300X... it's a fancier one, and allows you to do a fit test to find your VO2 max. That just means it calculates calories and HR zones a bit more accurately. I love it. The chest strap is adjustable, stretchy and I forget I have it on most times.
