They're bumper plates. They were probably lifting 90lbs which isn't too heavy for a clean

Stop that. You know as well as I do that "heavy" is a relative term, and a person new to lifting can hurt themselves with just a bar or even WITHOUT the bar, while getting started. If they have to break form like this, then it's too heavy.

Of course its relative but assuming these people were average then it really not that heavy. Especially for the men in the video, I'm sure they can throw 90lbs across the room.

Yeah, nice propoganda piece aginst CrossFit. I like the way people make them the villian with no understanding of what's happening. Educate yourself first, and you'll "get it". It's not what it looks like.

It isn't propoganda when it is a video published by the gym itself showing off their "achievements"during one of their special events (Weekend revival). They nailed themselves in the foot. /shrug

I'm not sure how to respond to this. Usually I consider you pretty reasonable but on this topic it seems that we are from different planets.

And the guys from your planet are become much stronger when exposed to the yellow sun of Earth, I guess.

Can you see the gifs I posted? If so imagine something like that but much worse and more dangerous looking.

If no one has posted yet, this is how it is done http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4ppfXBp5o0

This is not the same lift!!!!!

Yes it is the same lift, if you go to 1:14 in the video. He just does a better job at getting the clean part up in order to switch his grip properly before pressing it.

also, this is a good testament to the difficulty in lifting heavy and is eye-opening for many who haven't lifted before I'm sure

not really cause A) its light bumper plates and more importatly b) its not proper heavy lifting. As far as a "continental clean" if that is the proper form for it, then it can go back to whatever continent it came from.

I love how it is defined in Wiki: "The Continental gained a reputation as clumsy, slow, and nonathletic compared to the swift coordinated movement required to lift the bar "clean." Hence, the clean movement was adopted by the early weightlifting federations as the official movement."

Horrendous! Those coaches should be forced to carry around 100 pound weights in each hands for the next millennium. They are going to really injure someone.

regardless of issues of form, kids under a certain age are medically advised not to lift to failure. That doesn't mean they shouldn't lift. It does mean they shouldn't be lifting *heavy*. They should only be lifting weights that they can do 10-15 reps with. Don't like this fact, argue it with a paediatric orthopaedic specialist.

You guys are pathetic, myfitnesspal is a site built around people trying to improve themselves and you make fun of other people in a video where they're clearly beginners and learning the ropes.

every one has to start somewhere, remember that. you guys should no better than others how it feels to be judged.

EDIT: also the majority of those girls are hot. Jelly much?

Seriously?? If they are beginners then why do they all have like 8 plates on the bar? Trying to lift ridiculous amounts of weight that you are clearly not strong enough for is... just plain stupid...

They're bumper plates. They were probably lifting 90lbs which isn't too heavy for a clean

It *is* too heavy for a pubescent child.

What exactly are they doing wrong?

If you do not know the sport or how it is done how would you know if it is being done wrong?

There is poor, improper form and then there is moving the body differently to achieve a result. Most people are in the former, even when they think they are doing it right.

Everyone seemed to be having fun.

Wait, really? The fact that most of them are arching their backs and look as though they're going to snap in half doesn't give you a clue that they could possibly be "doing it wrong?" The fact that they can barely lift the weight up to their chest, let alone jerk it over their head doesn't make you think "hmm. Perhaps they might be doing it wrong?" :noway:
They're bumper plates. They were probably lifting 90lbs which isn't too heavy for a clean

Oh! Ok. Well now that makes ALL the difference! :noway: I'm fit. I lift heavy but there is no way in hell that I'd be able to do a 90lb clean (right now any way). Now my husband pushes me when we workout together but there's no way that he would slap 90lbs on an Olympic bar and say "Ok! Do a Clean and Jerk!"

Those "coaches" should be fired. I can only imagine the injuries that could have been sustained by doing those improperly. It is very obvious that the weight is too heavy for them. I would not want to be the owner of that gym. The liability that they have on their hands is huge!

Here is an example of what can happen even when you are doing it right. Not for the squeamish.

All the knees knocking in is making me cringe. Ugh ugh ugh.

I have to admit though - I am jealous of those rubber weights! I can't throw my bar around like that on my concrete floor.
