Shera- you may run into my husband if he is still in Crescent City tomorrow! He headed there this morning! I like the quote! I think it's cute. How about this poem?
From early in the morning,
Until I go to sleep each day,
I know my grandparents love me,
In a very special way.
Sometimes it's tea and crackers,
Sometimes a walk in the park,
Sometimes it's just a hug when I'm scared and in the dark.
I love to hear their stories,
About the past and where they're from,
And I know their hearts are filled for me,
With never ending love.

Thanks Nicolle & Trish. Here is another one I found what do you think of this?
Inside this box is the love we have for you
No matter where we go you will always know our love is with you
Whenever you are lonely, or ever feeling blue
You only need to open this box and know we are here with you.0 -
shera here is a link for loads of quotes.
http://www.scrapbook.com/quotes.php
i've gone to some of them before and found lots of good stuff.
just google grandparents quotes OR love across the miles quotes OR.... you get the idea
that love box is a very sweet idea, btw.
corny but
inside this box is a treasure for you
our love fills it up and surrounds you too0 -
nicolee, i know the fleece pants didn't work out...but maybe you'd want to do this? it's a no-sew fleece project

or save these ideas for NEXT year.
No-Sew Fleece: Delicate Ruffled Scarf
Fleece No-Sew Ruffled Scarf Silhouette
I love fleece! I just can't get enough of it when winter arrives. I now have a working sewing machine for the first time in a long time, and am getting into sewing, (whipped up some cute fleece hats for the kids for Chanukah gifts, will show you next week) but I can certainly sympathize with anyone who does not have a sewing machine or who doesn't enjoy sewing. I made these no-sew fleece projects when I did not have a working sewing machine and I was so very happy to be able to work with fabric! And there's something about the simplicity and construction of these tied fleece projects that is just irresistable!
This scarf is another quick project with great results, and very in keeping with the ruffled trend that seems to be popular in both home decor and fashion! As you can see from the photo, the sides of the scarf do not lie flat when finished, but this is part of the charm!
Fleece No-Sew Ruffled Scarf Closeup
You'll Need:
* fleece in two colors
* masking tape
* good scissors
How-To:
1. Measure an existing scarf whose dimensions you like (or would like to change just a bit). Add 9cm to the width measurement, and divide in half to calculate the width of the panels you'll need to cut.
2. My meduim child-sized scarf has the finished measurements of roughly 22cm x 160cm (8 3/4" x 24"). I cut 2 panels each measuring 15cm x 160cm. (6" x 24")
3. Measure 5cm (2") from one edge and mark the 5cm (2") width in a few places vertically along the panel. Place a piece (or several pieces) or masking tape vertically along the fleece panel, such that there remains a 5cm (2") wide vertical area of fleece along the entire length.
4. Using a ruler, carefully mark 1.5cm (2/3") intervals along the masking tape.
5. Cut fringe along the 5cm (2") panel using the marks on the masking tape as your guide. Accuracy here will result in a much delicate and beautiful ruffle.
6. Repeat steps 1 through 5 on the second fleece panel
7. Place panels side by side and tie fringe together with a double knot, making sure to use the same knot each time. Trim any ends that are visually longer than the rest.
8. You're finished, wasn't that fun? Think of all the other amazing things you could make using this technique. And if you're just too exhausted to think at this point, don't worry I'll be giving you lots more project ideas in the days to come!0 -
Hello. Is this the complaint department? I'd like to lodge a complaint.
I figure since we are moms, we are in the business of filing complaints.
Here is my complaint: I can't find any nutritional information ANYWHERE for the slice of pie we got from Mimi's Cafe last night. It was a lovely chocolate mousse delight, similar to Village Inn's French Silk Pie. The slice from Mimis was only as large as putting your fingertips together, with your thumbs touching side by side (does that make sense?). I had half the slice, cuz Andy said he wanted some even though he had a whole, untouched apple crisp in the fridge from Mimis. Yes, I was kind of miffed (never come between a girl & chocolate, especially if you have your own stinkin' dessert), but that's a complaint for another day.
Anyway, I can't find any nutritional info for this piece of pie that wasn't any wider than a regular TV remote, and it's bugging me, cuz I'm over in the sodium department. I put Village Inn's French Silk pie down, cuz that was the closest thing I could think of.
Sorry to bother about such a trivial little thing, but was hoping someone could help.0 -
this is just me, but i would just say you did the best you could in finding the nutritional info and stick with what you used already. Unless you tried calling the place and they could give you an idea on calories but otherwise I would just say keep it simple *dont' sweat the small stuff* and move on  Your doing great so I would't sweat a small piece of pie :flowerforyou:0

Can I make a New Christmas resolution? Next year DON'T make all this yummy bad for me stuff and expect to not eat it. HA! I love baking with my kids & making candy--it is a tradition. We give most of it away to friends and family. The small amount per family won't kill them & it includes the kids in our gift giving. But it is EVERY where in my kitchen. Truly I have done very well. Only 1 cookie & 3 dipped pretzels. I walked today--YA me, so I am good so far on calories but it is an overwhelming urge to just EAT!
Stacey--you definitely can come over & be a kid here--there isn't any other kind of person allowed here(grin)
Hopey--3 cheers for you on the size 14!!!! Hubby's gonna love the new you!
Shera--love the idea of love in a box. I have found that the grandparents just want to be with the grandkids & enjoy them no matter what gifts the receive.
Have a great evening!0 -

I'm with you on the resolution. My kitchen is filled with peanut brittle, peppermint bark, and cookies of various kinds. I think it would be better to not do anything of the kind than submit myself to this torture! You did very well with your 1 cookie and 3 pretzels. I just ate a cookie... but I'm still way under on my calories so I guess it's ok? Keep up the strength, Christmas is almost over!0 -
MY KIDS ARE BEING COMPLETE SPOILED BRATS!!!!!!
i wanted more. every night we get 2 presents (whine whine whine). toy present toy present
MINE NOT YOURS and on and on!!!
blechy :explode:0 -
Stacey, are you celebrating Hanukkah? If so, you can always take all their presents away until after the holiday, and tell them God does not tolerate such behavior. God teaches us to be kind and loving to all (especially eachother, and our own family), why would He put up with this "Mine, mine, mine, give it back!" nonsense? He wouldn't. Why should you?
Sorry if I'm putting my nose where it doesn't belong, and if I have Hanukkah all mixed up. Just trying to help.0 -

good points. and yes we're jewish celebrating chanukah. this year it got out of hand b/c mimi came at t-giving and bought all their presents with them--each kid went to the store with mimi and picked out LOADS of stuff this year. plus, we had some for them too (tho ours are usually smaller and also include jewish books and giving charity). altogether, just too much stuff for them--more than their bdays even.
whatever. next year we will limit it and not even do the present a night thing. it was an experiment and not one we care to repeat. oh well...
thanks for listening.
now if i could get them away from the tv so i could do chest and back.0 -
end results: over by 200ish cals but i'm ok b/c NO cookies!!!!
ate 3 fruits and 1 vege. yay
only 6-7 water. but ok. when i drink too much and i don't have much sodium in my food, i'm finding that i just pee all day. kinda annoying.
did p90x chest and back.
yay me! got some chores done, had a tea party with middle one and got the little ones bathed. oldest did schoolwork and had chill time. and i cooked dinner (as you know, not my forte).
so, i'm pattin' myself on the back tonight.
hope you all ended your day strong. i'm very impressed, btw, w/those of you who resisted (by and large) the sweets in your house. you rock!
jr--how are you?? are your evenings with the kids getting any easier? did you find any good ideas that are working for you?
see you ladies in the am :flowerforyou:0 -
WOW did I stress eat or what. Didn't see that coming HAHAH I was great all day yesterday with food, it seriously helps not to have grocery $$ HAHA, i know it's not funny but it get's me through the day
anyway, did great, we made this turkey soup abuot 3 days ago we've been eating off of and I had oatmeal for breakfast, turkey soup for lunch and dinner. no big deal, well then a good friend of mine called and asked if I wanted pizza, it was a very nice gesture but I declined said thanks but I already ate was very proud of myself . Well about 20 minutes later she comes to my door with 2 pieces so I ate one LOL I was nice and saved the other piece for my dh so he could have it when he got home from work.
But he eats the darn piece and then wants more, apparently he had a few dollars + some change and domino's had a $5 deal so guesss what comes home...ANOTHER PIZZA!! *eek* I had another piece. Oh boy, need to get that under control, I wasn't even hungry after my soup oh and did I mention 1/2 a grilled cheese for dinner. I ate it, tasted yummy but i'm NOT going to do that again.0 -
You guys have some great ideas! I personally believe as far as food is considered that one treat is always okay. Sometimes that gets me into trouble because I have a hard time stopping after one, but it isn't nearly as bad as if I had gone without completely. I am the type that has to work sweets into my program or I will quit. I tend to have a square of dark chocolate every day--unless of course I am being bad...
Also calorie counting is estimation in my book--so as long as you are on the right track, you don't have to get it perfect. I try not to be a perfectionist anyway.
I have some housework to do that I don't want to do, but need to as I have a lot of baking to do for friend gifts this weekend.
Take care!:flowerforyou:0 -

so true! i used to be worried about each and every calorie i ate and burned off. leslie sansone said something about you can't eke out every calorie in your workout. that helps me have perspective.
so now that i've been at this for 9mon i am a little more relaxed. my slowdown in wt loss is not b/c of 50cals here or there--it's the much larger amounts of pure junk that i eat too regularly. make sense?
anyway, thanks deb for adding your point of view too. :flowerforyou:0 -
Gm everyone! Thanks for the ideas Stacey on other things to make. I am finding that fleece is cool to work with too.
Trish- That sounded like a cute movie! I sometimes get crazy with finding out about my food stats too, but I actually most of the time, if I can't find the exact food on the search list, just pick the closest thing they have one there. Since I make the majority of our food from scratch, I usually break down the food. For example, when I make soup, I usually have no comparison, so I put in the broth, carrots, beans, etc. all individually and take a guesstimate on how much of each that I ate. I don't know how else to do it.
I also can't stop at just one with any cookie, or especially tortilla chips or potato chips. That's why I don't have them in the house during the week and I only allow myself one cheat day...or 2....on the weekend.
I have seem to gone up in weight this week and have not lost it....I wonder what that's about. I haven't been eating any more junk than I normally do....go figure.0 -

I agree completely. My weightloss slow down has been because of my indulgence in sweets all to often. I know I have not been as good as I should be. I believe that as long as you get the basics-- eat your fruits and vegies and exercise. The rest kinda falls into place. My problem is to eat my fruits and vegies. I feel so much better when I do, it is sometimes hard to accomplish though.
I am feeling a little down today. I think I did to much and one of the stitches (from the mole removal I had) slipped, it is making me not want to move at all--and yet I want to just go exercise but know I can't. I can't wait until the sutures are removed--one more week. Exercise makes me happy and not being able to is really messing with my attitude right now.
Sorry I just felt like whining!!:grumble:
Have a good day everyone. :flowerforyou:0 -

I think there's an online tool where you can put in the ingredients and it gives you the nutrition for what you made. I saw someting about it on www.allrecipes.com I'll do some digging.0 -
Here is the recipe analyzer I use. http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/recipe_analysis.php0

Trish has been a bad, BAAAAD girl. I did some more Christmas shopping this morning, and spent too much. Hubby will be thrilled, I'm sure *sarcasm*. Afterwards, I was soooo hungry! I was trying to be good since we're having a dinner that's super high in sodium, but my stomach got the best of me. I caved. Taco Bell. My Achilles heel. Grace was so good shopping, she deserved a treat. Yes, that's what I'm justifying it with. She loves TB soft tacos. I'm fine on calories, but 1100 over on sodium. I knew what I was getting into when I pulled into the drive thru window. Even after the cheeseburger incident the other night (put 6 lbs on from how sick it made me, but back down 5 lbs less now that I'm feeling better today). I have a feeling I'll be paying for it later.
Hubby is going shopping for me tonight. I should probably update Grace's list, so he doesn't spend too much more on her.
Anyone know where to find men's thermal undies? Andy wants some (he walks to bus stop at 5a most days, freezing cold), but I haven't been able to find them anywhere!0 -
Trish, I LOVE Taco Bell! Don't feel bad, I'm gonna be way over on calories today! I'm about out of calories for the day and its only 2:50 pm! I have to eat atleast 400 to 500 calories tonight at dinner time to take my pills! :grumble: Or they don't dissolve right. They require food... It's soo sad, It's TMO and I"m just hungry for everything in sight!0
-
Trish, did you check at Wal-mart? They sometimes have them in the hunting section. I am right there with yay and the sodium this week. It's always something that I am not balanced with. Either the sodium, or my fat or carbs. Never protein.0
-
hey deb--no problem. you weren't whining--just sharing your frustration. we get that. try to take it easy. give your body time to heal properly. i've had many surgeries and every time i follow dr's orders and rest, the dr tells me how nicely i'm healing. i think it's really important to do that--you spent the time and money to have the surgery, you should spend the time to rest.
anyway--(hugs) for your discomfort and for itching to get back to your exercise!0 -

isn't that just so LIFE?!0 -
Nicolee has a good idea, check Walmart in the hunting section.0

or my all time favorite place, cabelas. They have an excellent assortment of long underwear for different "types" of cold and different materials so try there as well. Even try an outdoor store in your area they usually have some through out the stores.0 -

Thanks--sometimes I just need to get my feelings out whether on paper or talking it out--it makes a big difference. I didn't do so well eating today. I caved and made pizza--mmmm, it is so good, so full of sodium, but had a little whole wheat flour I am dying of thirst now, and ate a few too many pieces, mostly because I was still making pizza while I was eating it and making bread too. So I didn't have the salad and tomatoes with it I had planned. I really need to start sitting down to eat. It would make a huge difference!! :noway:
Trish, I was going to suggest Cabella's too--We love going there:bigsmile:
:flowerforyou:0 -
gave in--baked and ate magic bars (sans coconut). very very rich. and very very full. and DONE.
think i will cut and give away some to neighbors tomorrow and then freeze some for another choc attack in the future.0
