    Misinformation. Over-simplifications. Cherry picked "science".

There's nothing wrong with the low-carb life style, but there's nothing wrong with eating carbs too. People will be successful on any diet they can stick with.

    what are IGF-1 ????

    Carbs are killing you...
Protein is killing you faster. Newer research has identified high levels of IGF-1 have been linked to decreased life span, health, and brain aging. You know where IGF-1 is found mostly? In protein.

    Huh, what?

IGF-1 stands for Insulin-like Growth Factor 1. It's a hormone that your own body produces. It does a bunch of stuff including regulate 'anabolism' or growth of various cells within your body, including muscle, bone, and probably fat, but no need to make it the next boogie monster.

I follow Chris Powell of low carb. one day and high carb. next day both days not exceeding 1200 calories for women 1500 for men. I am never hungry and it is working....

it would work without the alternating low/high carb days. 1200 calories is weight loss for 99% of the population--assuming you dont blunt your metabolism and trigger a whole host of hormonal issues stalling weight loss.

Hardcore ketoer here, and THIS is so true. Find something you can stick with that includes more whole foods, and you'll be fine.

I think there is a huge misconception related to low carbing. I am in full support of low carb, but that does not mean I never eat a carb, ahem, veggies are carbs. I love veggies. Every one has a slightly different metabolic rate, but I know for a fact my mother and I will only ever stay slim/lose weight by eating nothing but protein and vegetable carbs with the occassional ( as in once or twice a week ) whole grain carb meal. The truth is, the majority of Western civilization is addicted to sugar. White refined, donut forming sugar. It is the slow burning, phytonutrient, antioxidant carbohydrates that need to be the ONLY carbs the world eats or else everyone will soon be 400lbs and diabetic. Did you know that type 2 diabetes can be cured by cutting out sugars, yes, cured! I have seen it many times. High cholestrol, cured with sugar withdrawl. Did you know that cancer cells cannot live without sugar, and in fact feed on sugar? Before smack talking those who support low carb please try to understand what they're saying fully. There are breads and bagels that can be made to have 2-5 net carbs just by using whole, unrefined, complete food ingredients....thats the kind of low carber I want to be.

I just wanted to point out the bolded part of this is a really funny statement. Cancer cells are cells within your body and all cells in your body are fueled by sugar so why wouldn't they too use sugar as an energy source?

I'm classed as an ultra low carber. I am a T2 diabetic and carbs send my BG soaring, so I eat, or try to eat less than 30g a day and stay in ketosis. By doing this diet the weight is just falling away, I am about 9lbs away from my idea weight, or at least I was before I went on holiday (I refuse to get on the scales this week :-)).

I firmly believe there are some of us who are so carb sensitive, even small amounts are going to stop us losing weight and make us ill. This is not an issue for all of us, but certainly something I am more and more convinced of the more T2 diabetics I speak to.

I eat carbs and am not fat, nor do I have whatever cravings your cartoon shows. So, um, theory wrong. Calories in/calories out, take in more than you burn and you are certain to gain weight/be overweight.

    But whatever makes y`all happy.

Also, all caps + arrows = annoying.

Then why are you reading this feed?

Just because something works for you does not mean it works for everyone sweetheart.

But your argument is that carb consumption universally causes obesity and weight gain, ~sweetheart~.

Like I said, whatever makes you happy.

But your argument is that carb consumption universally causes obesity and weight gain ----> Nowhere did I say that. Please read my comments before assuming. I said that it's a balancing act, too much of anything can cause problems.

I was simply sharing a poster that I think is cute and shares some good information with my MFP friends.

I really hope you don't judge everyone as quickly as you judged me - what a sad, dark, little world that would be to live in. Your hostility just makes you look sad and desperate.
There's no "good information" in those graphics. The information on those graphics are, for the most part, completely made up. Insulin has nothing to do with fat storage, insulin moves glucose into muscles and the liver, not fat. You also don't need an insulin spike to store fat, in fact, fatty acids can be stored directly into fat cells with absolutely no conversions necessary (they just get split into their individual fatty acids before being absorbed directly into the blood stream.)

It's just an anti-carb propaganda piece.
