I saw a topic about inter racial relationships and was surprised to see some people against the idea. So now I'm curious as to what people think about gay marriage :)

Marriage Equality* - marriage is marriage.

I think at the moment, the law comes across as treating any non-heterosexual relationship as "less than" which doesn't make sense considering it's generally considered wrong to discriminate against people based on their sexual orientation. If gay people want to get married, and can find a celebrant willing to marry them, I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed to do so.

I don't really care which two people are bound by a legal civil union to protect their rights and freedoms and to declare their relationship publicly to friends and family... just please don't insist that a church or other religious institution that doesn't support same-sex relationships conduct the ceremony.

I was hoping for some hard core religious people to get offended and start screaming "IT'S A SIN".
But it seems that the MFP community is more mature than that. Nice ^_^

My DH says that gay people have just as much right to be as miserable as the rest of us. Let them marry! LMAO

That said, I'm participating in a gay wedding next summer. My BFF from college needs me to be his Hag of Honor :drinker:

I am neutral :) If two people of the same sex are in love good for them, let them get married..

btw I read a thing in the News Paper this morning about how gay marriages have a higher success rate..

well I for one am going to hope that my gay son will someday find a mate and be able to be "married". I too feel any couple deserves to be considered married and offered the same benefits (e.g health insurance , etc) that a "normal" *coughbull****cough* couple gets. So yes to gay marriage , yes to straight marriage, and yes to interracial marriage.
  • Well, considering I am madly in love with my partner and plan on marrying her, I am 100% in support of gay marriage! If someone is not gay, then someone else who is gay getting married is not going to affect them.

I have an issue with marriage, regardless of parties involved. It's an outdated and archaic not to mention unnecessary social oddity. Down with marriage, we should ban it all together.

Probably because they are less likely to have kids. I am just guessing here... but I see WAY too many people splitting up over the hardships that can come from having babies and raising kids. It's hard stuff and any weak relationship can cave under the pressure.

Why this is even a debate, I'll never understand. Let people live their lives however they wish and let's focus on society's real problems.

The fact that people go hungry in North America and may not have access to basics such as health care are way bigger issues and deserve more time and energy.

The fact that it's even still an issue is fascinating to me. It's 2012!

Remember the people who said it mixed-race marriages were a "sin"? They were on the wrong side of the issue then, too, and time will tell that people who oppose others' right to pursue their own brand of victimless happiness are just as wrong as ever.

P.S.: There is no such thing as sin anyway. Humans love to make **** up.

I have been kind of leaning this way too. Why even use the word in the first place. I'm married to the same man for over 26 years now and we are more roommates than anything else..that piece of paper didn't really mean crap for us. Now we are staying together because neither of us want to spend the money on a divorce. Aren't we the poster people for the success of a straight marriage .. NOT :)

No reason to be against it. Equal rights for everyone right?

The only reason I ever see someone say they are against it is for religious reasons, which is stupid. If your religion says don't get a gay marriage, then don't get one. But the ones who try to stop others? It'd be like a Jewish person trying to ban others from eating pork, its ridiculous.

This topic is going to be so old once we start debating android marriage both to humans and to eachother.

For it. Don't understand why people want to stop other people from loving, being happy, and being able to visit each other in the hospital and all of that. People take marriage for granted. It should be a choice people can make if they want to get married. There are a lot of truly horrible things in this world. Adults falling in love and getting married is not one of them. And it's already legal, here, in Canada.

People should be able to love whom they love and express that love in marriage regardless of race or gender.

    Here...

    http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/wellness/story/2012-07-24/sally-ride-sexuality/56467620/1

Sally Ride, although married to a man for 5 years, spent the remainder of her life with her lifelong partner Tam...a woman. I don't believe they were actually married (I could be wrong, I didn't research that much into it so please forgive me if I am) but it seems that this "non-traditional" relationship worked out well for her.

My BFF is gay and I don't give 2 effing rips. She's been married and divorced from a same sex marriage. It works and it sometimes doesn't. I'm all for it. What gives me the right to say gay marriage is wrong? Not a darn thing, that's what.
