Why I closed my diary.

Salt addict open diary loser here. :flowerforyou:0

I have not had any issues yet, but my diary can only be seen by MFP friends - all of whom have similar weight loss goals as myself. Any of us with a lot to lose know that the best way to derail ourselves is to be so unrealistically restrictive that we can't maintain changes over the long haul. I don't even think about my sodium intake. My blood pressure is fantastic (thank you exercise) and any water weight it causes is just temporary, and when you have as much weight to lose as I do it seems silly to fret over. I like my sweet coffee. I get small ones and don't eat as many sweets as I used to, so that's good enough.
It's all about the big picture. Sorry you were hassled over the small stuff.0 -
Good for you. I too have left my diary closed bcause I did not want peple telliing me everything I am doing wrong. Good luck in your journey.0
-
Loved your story.
I closed mine for the same reason. Had someone try and tell me how to eat. I think those people need to worry about themselves and not what others do.0 -
When I grow up, I want to be just like you.0

Way to go Scott!0

Everyone has to do what works best for them personally. Watching fat/sugar/salt or carbs may be someone else's solution. Your terrific weight loss is proof that you know what works for you! Congrats and good luck on the continuing journey. BTW I don't watch salt either. I'm at my goal weight and I have low blood pressure so I am fine with that.0

You are awesome! Congrats on the loss!0

Hi Scott. I am located in Austin, Texas, as well. Should you ever need a walking/exercise/activity buddy, let me know! Congratulations on all of your amazing successes, and most importantly the ones that focus on your well being and the well being of your relationships. Bravo!

Awesome! I was captivated with every word and whole heartedly support your choice...
Now....I must find out how many sticks of butter I have lost....I never realized that was a measure of success...but now I must have it! hahahaha )
JOLLY GOOD FOR YOU!!!

192!!! Congratulations, and great success!0 -
You are awesome. So glad you found MFP and are making this change. Do what works for YOU!0

It's unfortunate that you felt that you had to explain yourself on how much sugar/salt you intake on a site that is here to support and encourage people. I think the fact that you are trying to eat healthier, are more aware of what you use to fuel your body and have lost weight are the key factors. Great Job!!
Good luck to you on your weight loss journey!!!
This. We are all adults here and I have faith in my friends that when they eat a taboo food they know darned well it is high in sodium or sugar. I have the same kinds of food occasionally myself. This is lifestyle change not a race to diet perfection. Seriously if I had to live my life like that I would chuck the dieting out the window! Congratulations on your weight loss and choosing your family:-) We are going through the same change. Hubbys job was literally killing him.0 -
You know what? We are suppose to be Fitness Pals, not doctors but pals that encourage. Everyone is different. Different to the fact that different things work for each of us. This is not a race, take you time and do what works for you. :flowerforyou:
Congratulations also on you career success!!!0 -
Thanks for sharing, I always love your posts! Do what works for you, ignore the "constructive" criticism. People always mean well but they're not you, and only you know what's best for yourself. I'm just glad you're still here. Open food journal or not, I love seeing that you've completed it for the day. Great job on your accomplishments.
I return to my Subway sandwich. hehe.0 -
I get your point and you seem to have a great plan to start with the small sacrifices and then worry about weening off the sugars/sodium later. You have to do what is sustainable for you and whatever keeps you logging is great.
That being said it is clear you are a lawyer. You like to brag about yourself and your career and unless I missed something it seems to have absolutely nothing to do with weight loss. haha just an observation.0 -
like many others didn't think I would read the whole thing but glad I did. You are the priority of this website from your point of view, and that is the case from everyone on here. Glad you are doing what is good for you sir, and keep at it. And I do appreciate the story of your life that helps give a lot of us young folks hope, and that it's not always about the money0

You must do what works for you or nothing with work in the long term!!! Don't worry about what others think just do it!!! Good luck on your journey!!0

I've been here 6 weeks and as of today, down 13 pounds. I keep my diary closed for the exact same reason; also, I know that I would be tempted to lie or not log certain things if I mess up on a certain day. Since nobody can know how any of us were eating before we started, nobody could fully understand how much progress we've made! It's a journey! And like you said, you have to find a way of eating that you can stick with for life!
I read every word of your post and found it very inspiring for LOTS of reasons. Congratulations on all your successes and I wish you all the best in your weight loss/fitness journey! :flowerforyou:0 -
I understand.
I am always flattered when people invite me to friend them. But I found that thinking about people looking at my food diary makes me too self-conscious. I think about that when I'm logging and I don't want to.
I just want to eat what is best for me and to be brutally honest with myself.0 -
Bump to read later0

Actually, I included the info about where I've been in my life to show that I (like everyone else), have had to work to overcome obstacles. As part of that, I have made choices. Big choices and little choices. Some have worked out for the best, some were very bad. But regardless, I've always tried to make the best of the hand that's been dealt to me, and that I've dealt to myself. And that is why I have made the choice-- right or wrong-- to work toward knocking off 79 pounds (to get under 400) before I try to deal with the sodium and sugar issues that others feel are important now. If your house is on fire and your credit card payment is a day late, you deal with the fire first and the credit card company later.
I don't like movies or tv shows that spoon feed the plot to me and don't leave me room to think. That is why I didn't include that paragraph in my first post.0 -
Good for you for losing your weight so far.
I agree with you, you have to eat what you like....maybe just smaller portions.
I for one cannot not live on carrot sticks.
Good luck on your weight loss journey, sounds like you know & and are doing what works for you..0 -
I started on here as 5,000 to 7,000 calorie per day closet, shame eater who would scarf those incredible bright orange, cream filled cupcakes from Hostess. Yeah, you know the ones, with the while swirl of icing on top of the orange sheet of icing, on top of that bright orange spongy cake and that sweet, creamy, white filling in the middle... ohhhhhh yeah.......
I would have no problem with a friend seeing this as a manage lifestyle change and doing a 3-4 days on 3-4 off kind of deal if that's what they need to do to stick with it and they are still losing (or not gaining if at maintenance).
I've never had my friends email me about exceeding my sodium ... or my fat... or calorie goal for that matter. I find that strange. If someone is struggling to lose and wants input, then yeah, I'll look at their diary and give a critique - but only when invited to do so!
Do what works for you! Congratulations on all your success - your winning attitude will get you to your weight goal in the end.0 -
I totally agree. I am new to MFP, and am loving it so far, but you've got to do what works for you and what you can live with. I had previously lost 50 lbs and have kept it off for a number of years by making changes I can live with. MFP is giving me the tools and determination to stay on track for the last 65 (now 62) lbs on my journey. You have a wonderful personal history of doing what needs to be done to improve your life, and I know you will succeed with your weight loss goals. Thanks sharing your inspiring story!0

First off, congrats on your success and your lifestyle change. I usually eat a cheat meal once a week, which 9 times out of 10 is Chinese. And I know without it, I would not only lose my sanity but COMPLETELY give up on losing weight. It's great that you know what will work for you and DO it. Keep up the good work, you are well on your way!0
-
Well said. Congratulations on your progress! This journey is a personal one for each of us and each of us has to decide what works for us. I've been fortunate that none of my friends criticize my diary. I also know that a plan I can live with includes the occasional subway & pizza. This is about changing my lifestyle, and that needs to happen one step at a time. And it needs to be a lifestyle I can sustain long term.0

You can brag all you like. You've worked hard for those bragging rights. Just like you are working hard towards your next accomplishment... which I am very sure you will succeed with your determination and self-motivation.0
