I ate two bites of brownie. Only two. This is where I need to be able to hang. Taste it. Walk away. Made them for the family. They smelled so good. Wasn't going to have any, but I ended up having two bites of the one hubs was eating cause it was huge. I didn't eat a whole one. I didn't sit and salivate while they all ate one. I got my 'ummmmmmmm' on and called it a day.
Moderation. I'm working on it.
Way to go!0 -

Sugar is not my friend!!
I had yummy apple and broccoli today. Ched cheese and lasagna. NO sugar that was not natural and my body feels 100% better this evening. I swear even my neck pain level went way down.
I am going to research sugar and pain to see what I come up with. I BET there is some relation to inflammation.
Have a good night sugar busters!!0 -

Hello sugar haters! I thought about joining you. But then I thought about the chocolate covered cherries and the white chocolate polar bear in my stocking. I know that somewhere along the way, I'll enjoy them. But... when you think about it, it's been what, 9 days since Christmas, and I've only eaten 3 cherries and my reese's tree? That's not too bad is it? lol

I passed what was for me the ultimate test today. . .a trip to the movies.
(I had budgeted for a small popcorn, but I wanted those candies with them so bad. . .)
Didn't.
5 days and counting. Only eleven more until a (non-refined sugar) treat.0 -

I had a good day. I'm telling you, once I get in routine and tell myself 'no', it clicks. I need a new plan for vacations!0

I am a belly hater....ya know the one hanging over my belt?? The last of the fat.....GRRRrrrrrr
Hi Robin, good to see you around!!:smooched:0 -
Horrible day, sweets wise. Personally, it was fine.
Dragging myself back on track.0 -
Hi may i join you? :flowerforyou: this is very timely because i have been gaining weight because of my sugar addiction. posting here will make me accountable..
BTW someone asks about the relationship of sugar and pain...
sugar cause our blood to be viscous which will slow/impede blood circulation to our cells. Cells undergo two types of respiration to produce energy. one is aerobic (with oxygen) and the other one is anaerobic (without oxygen). Blood delivers oxygen, and normally, the cells undergo aerobic respiration. but if the blood is viscous it cannot deliver oxygen and so the cells undergo anaerobic metabolism. Anaerobic metabolism's byproduct is lactic acid and lactic acid irritate the nerves producing pain.. It kinda explains why my body aches the morning after a sugar binge..
it's an irony that i know about this but still binge on those sugary treats.. :grumble: hope we can all make this...0 -

Hi Robin, good to see you around!!:smooched:
Hey Jeannie! I'm baaackkkk.... I should give away my chocolates, because 4 days after Christmas, the doctor told me I'm allergic to milk (and milk is in soooo many yummity things, like chocolate). Dumb me, because I'm still hanging on to them. lol0 -

Dude! Belly hater. LOL!
For real though, my belly is gross from my romp with sugar. It's never been 100% gone or flat, but it was better. A week or so devouring sugar left me with some hangage too! I've been pinching it in disgust and saying "cookies!" Now hubs is doing it too. Not sure whether to laugh with him or clobber him. I am a little sensistive when it comes to others playing with my putty like belly bulge. *Gag. Dry Heave*0 -
Sugar is not my friend.. im a self confessed sugar addict!! :-D i cant get enough of it.. when im not even hungry ill eat it, just because i want to... chocolate, candy, cake, cookies & icecream... all tempt me!!
So im going to join this group to prove to myself i can go a whole month (starting yesterday) to go without sugary sweets.. BTW its my 21st Birthday on the 23rd Jan.. so i might have to have a day off!!! Hopefully i will be able to stick to this!!
Cant avoid the fresh fruit tho! I need some sugar!! :-D ha ha0 -
I would love to join this challange. I don't over do it on the sweets but I am wanting to decrease how much I eat. I live with two men who can eat anything and not gain a pound :grumble: . I am not trying to give up sweets completely just learn a little self control.0

Sugar is not my friend. I was talking to one of the trainers at my gym and told her about the saggy flabby looking skin on my thighs which I chalked up to so much loss - she said sugar can affect that got me thinking...
I've not been in this challenge in the past but I do know that I have too much sugar.....from brown sugar in my oatmeal to the 2 pumps of Mocha in my espresso....a handful of reduced fat nilla wafers...most of my sweets are fruits but these things I listed are couple times a week each!
I have swiched to Truvia in my tea - I think that's better than splenda or the pink or blue stuff so I am trying.
Here's a question...do any of you use Truvia or real stevia? Is it digested like other "real" sugars? And reading the igredients of the Truvia - i doesn't say stevia which makes me wonder what it really is?0 -
Stevia! My Favorite!
I've been using it for about a year now. I really like it.
It is a plant, 0 cals, is classified as a "supplement" and has been used for years in Europe and Japan. You can bake with it, but I haven't used it for that purpose. It is great for small sweetening purposes. It comes in a spice-type container, $6 or so at Trader Joes, or any good grocery or Natural foods store or health food store, for 300 servings (it's really sweet, you don't use much)--and it is the consistency (and looks like) powdered sugar.
From WIKI:
Stevia is a genus of about 240 species of herbs and shrubs in the sunflower family (Asteraceae), native to subtropical and tropical South America and Central America. The species Stevia rebaudiana, commonly known as sweetleaf, sweet leaf, sugarleaf, or simply stevia, is widely grown for its sweet leaves. As a sweetener and sugar substitute, stevia's taste has a slower onset and longer duration than that of sugar, although some of its extracts may have a bitter or licorice-like aftertaste at high concentrations.
With its extracts having up to 300 times the sweetness of sugar, stevia has garnered attention with the rise in demand for low-carbohydrate, low-sugar food alternatives. Medical research has also shown possible benefits of stevia in treating obesity and high blood pressure. Because stevia has a negligible effect on blood glucose, it is attractive as a natural sweetener to people on carbohydrate-controlled diets. In 2008 it became commercially available as a sweetener in the United States. Stevia is widely used as a sweetener in Japan, and it is available in Canada as a dietary supplement.

Dear PMS,
You are stupid, and will not get a candy bar. You will get broccoli and hot tea, and you will like it.

On the "belly" subject.
Last year when I decided sugar had way-too-much power over me and stopped using it on a daily basis, was when my body started to reshape. I previously carried all my weight around my waist. I wish I could pull up the article or articles that I read back then that stated that sugar caused adipose fat to become more prolific. . . anyway . . .I didn't start any new "core" exercises or change anything about my exercising. I've always been hit-or-miss with exercise and I don't make a daily plan for excercise. Mostly walking, hiking hills, some ZUMBA, I ran for a while but not religioulsy.
The weight from my "middle" is definitely less. And it wasn't going anywhere fast before I gave up sugar. Not that I have any scientific proof of this. Just a mirror and clothing observation.
But sumpthin is different. Just sayin.0 -
Said NO and threw away Pumpkin spice cupcakes today!!!0

It's one of the first things I noticed when I did the no sugar challenge before Thanksgiving. There was a noticeable difference in my belly fat.
One would think such knowledge would swear me off forever..... *sigh*. If only we treated our own body as nice as we treat others! Maybe someday I'll be there.0 -

My thighs prefer clothing. I'm with ya. I see some people who have lost weight and have these smooth awesome looking thighs. Me. Not so much. I've always had large legs though, (which I don't understand why they are cute on babies, yet not grown women?) so I don't imagine they are going to suddenly look like model legs, but OOOHHHH how I wish.
It's an interesting thought on the sugar though....... hmmm.0 -
Still hanging strong! P-P-P-POW! Great success last night, had a long, wonderful online movie date with a girlfriend of mine (we both sync up the same movie and watch it together over AIM--great tiems, and such a fun way to spend time together even though she's in Cali and I'm in Puerto Rico!) but to get the internet connex, I had to be in our abandoned restaurant! DUN-DUN-DUN!
Success! Triumph! I resisted that trampy can of whipped cream, didn't even think about the chocolate/vanilla/cheese cakes or coconut custardy delights and had a half cup of yogurt and some fruit--more becuase I kinda felt like, "I should eat this because I budgeted for it" more than I actually really WANTED it. Still working on that one, but the point is: I picked the right option!
Also, seventh day of daily yoga! Feeling super duper awesome and cool. YAHYAHYAH!
In regards to sugar/tummy flab--so interesting, because my moms is always telling me to watch the waist/hip ratio and the jelly-belly because it's an indicator of diabetes risk. Also, isn't sugar linked with insulin spiking and such? There should be a list somewhere of reasons why sugar is a nogoodnick! (maybe it had a rough childhood, maybe it's got low self esteem, I don't care anymore! Making others suffer is not an acceptable way to feel better about yourself, sugar, it's time to go!)
I love stevia! In my tea! I have to be acreful not to use too much, though, it's so super duper sweet!0 -
Cheryl-- I'm with you-- I lost 7 pounds over the summer, all around the gut, when I cut sugar out completely.
However, on a tight budget, that left me with plain yogurt, grape nuts cereal, natural peanut butter and rice cakes-- got kinda old after a while, you know?
Need to get it going again, though-- I guess-- :ohwell:0 -
Ok, I'm on board with the sugar shun! I decided this morning to binge on the dozen or so chocolate covered cherries (I was eating one every couple of days). I figured I would get them gone, suffer the sore throat from allergy all at once, instead of dragging it out over the next couple of weeks. Maybe I should have thrown them away... but one last hurrah. No more chocolate for me!
Since then, I've had no sugar. In a way, it's good that we've discovered the milk and egg allergy. Everything I love that's bad for me has one or the other (or both). Think ice cream.... chocolate.... cookies.....
It's the allergy diet! I'll be svelte in no time!0 -
No sugar tonight in my coffee
No sugar tonight in my tea
No sugar to stand beside me
No sugar to run with me
