:flowerforyou: Mary, I hope you enjoy Strong Women Stay Young as much as I do. I read the book in January and got started right away. It was the program I’d been looking for. I’ve modified my original program and add some weight to what I started with. I wish you great success.

:flowerforyou: Nancy, what brand of immersion stick blender do you have? I looked online and there are several brands.

:flowerforyou: Sarah, it’s great to see you back…..your fitness plans are inspiring

 another happy day----dog walking----a wonderful event with friends with vegetarian minestrone soup for lunch---weight training---more dog walking----riding the exercise bike while watching TV with Jake

    Hi my friend,
I went to my orthopedic Md on Friday. I printed out my exercise and nutrition reports from MFP for him to see. He was very happy and said that he could tell that I lost weight and I looked much happier. So, that was a good visit. Just waiting to lose this weight to get my r knee replaced. I woke up last today. came and read the posts and made myself go to the gym right before work! I went by myself and I am glad that I went. No one is at the gym on the weekend so it was a nice quiet bike ride on the recumbent bike. I hope everyone will have a healthy and happy Sunday! Sending positive thoughts your way! Hugs , Linda:heart:

Liz- This was the first time that I even thought about getting measured at Victoria secret. I so need bras, and with losing 35lbs I was hopeful I would fit into one. The do sell extenders for the back, which would of worked, but that’s not the issue. Ok, so in another 35lbs lost, I should be able to buy a bra there. My lovely younger DD told me, “Mom, You can’t buy bras at Victoria Secret, you have to buy your bras at Wal-mart” What a little stink bug! Lol Glad that the Halloween party was a success! Glad you danced your feet off, you made some lucky people very happy! God Bless you! :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

Mwheatcraft54- thanks for the info on the carpet cleaner. I see them sold at costco, but storage would the issue for us, but we really need one with all the animals! So, glad that you did not lose your job. Thank you for the kind words of encouragement. I will think about that medium sized dog next time I am feeling depressed.

Wessecg. Congrats on the 1.5lb loss that is great! Halloween candy, just add the calories and don’t make the same mistake as last time. We don’t want to have to come and visit you for the wrong reason! Lol

Lin, that is a lot of hard work that you are doing for you Dads property. I am glad that you have someone to work with. I hope that makes it easier. So, you and I are in the same boat. The boat with no mirrors but a long and bright future! We are in this for the long haul. We will make this journey together with the other lovely ladies on here who want walk aboard! I am with you too on that I am going to keep doing what I am doing and move forward not making the same mistakes! Tally Ho! Onward we go!

Laura80111- my daughter got a screaming deal at Victoria Secret. They send out those coupons in the mail. She got one bra, $10.00 off the second bra, a free pair of panties and a free stadium blanket,,,plus a $15.00 gift card. Now, that was a screaming deal. Nice story about you r pants and the zipper. That must have made you feel so good!

Janehadji- I am the same, I feel young so my face doesn’t match the way I feel. I guess that is just called acceptance of aging! The Middle East, well I was in my mid 20’s living in Portland. Oregon. I had moved up there to be closer to by boyfriend who had gotten an anesthesia residency at the teaching hosp in Portland. I can’t remember how long it was into the relationship, but I caught him leaving at night to go sleep with another woman. So, I did not stay around. I had been working in the Emergency room in Portland and a paramedic was sending post cards from his travels in the Middle East. So, I contacted him to find out how he was doing so much traveling. I contacted the American cooperation he was working for in Saudi Arabia. I went to the phoenix office and signed up and went to work In Jeddah, Saudi Arabia as a RN. We were given 1 months vacation per year, so this is how I did all of my world traveling. I wanted to travel more, so after 3 years in the emergency room I decided to join their Air Lines and worked as a flight attendant. It was a fun job and a nice break from nursing. I did not make it to Iran. It was one of the greatest things that I did in my life. Jane- you were blessed to have met such a wonderful woman. Hopefully her values will live on in others that she touched in her life. Sorry, for your loss.:flowerforyou:

Jolene- glad that you r swelling in your toe is better. Being on steroids is not easy, but as long as it is helping then that is good. I was not comparing myself to my daughter, but comparing myself to how I feel on the inside vs what I see on the outside! Thank you for the encouragement. The picture I have posted is from my mid thirtys. So, I do look much younger in that picture. If I can find a picture that I like of me that is the older me I will have to post that one!

Mary –keep you the strength training and let us know how it goes! :flowerforyou:

2youngatheart, c ongrats on the weight loss. Your are an amazing woman doing all that you want to do ! You go girl! :drinker: :drinker:

Glenda- thank you for the words of encouragement too! 2 sacks of flour. Maybe, I need to buy some and put them out when I am feeling discouraged. You are certainly going to be busy as a Bee for the next couple of weeks. Make sure that you are taking of yourself each day! Have fun with you Mother and at the wedding.:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

Kathy – glad that you love your job and I pray that the next temp job is waiting for you! Having a good physical therapist makes all the difference in the world. Hope you are having a nice weekend! Great news on the NSV and not leaning on the shopping cart. I can relate to the cart thing! :noway: :noway: :flowerforyou:

Michele – thanks for the info about applesauce and prunes. So, that is just to use instead of oil, is that for butter too! Ok, I would love to be in a spa right now with a glass of chardonnay! Oh, maybe one day we will get a pool and a spa. I will live vicariously through you with the pool and spa!

    Barbie
When I first started on MFP I didn't think I'd ever lose the weight.....my first NSV was when my underwear fit better, something only I could tell...one day at a time, putting one foot in front of the other, and checking in with this thread, the pounds came off and thanks to all of you, they are staying off.
Thank you so much for this information. This helps me stay grounded and on track! Now, where did all these folk in the Pacific North West come from that they are so into line dancing? They must be transplants for else where! I am so glad that they have you to teach them. Do you have any bar in town that has line dancing for fun?

Kate , so sorry to hear about you NYC trip being cancelled. Boo Hoo. I was brave in my twenties and it was always a group of us that would go night diving! Now that is a spookey thought about the arms of the trees reaching out for you! Yikes. Clear warm water is the best. The water was very clear it was just night. We were up against a wall of a coral reef and the open ocean was on the other side, so it felt very safe! I never saw a shark when I dove the red sea!

Lila- now that is funny about the napkin trick. Kids so far apart but have a universal trick! When I had my bunion done at 18 is was due to a summer job where I wore a work boot that were too small for me in the width. I guess by the end of the summer my bunion was really sore. I don’t know if I could have been treated conservative or it was a money hungry podiatrist? I still have a side bunion on my l foot and 2 on my right foot. When God was handing out feet, he missed my mother and father! Good fun with all the planting of the bulbs. I just bought a bunch of stuff off of a company called Nuts.com. They have a great variety of organic nuts and trail mix etc. My DH takes trail mix when he is off hunting. I bought some organic cashew butter and some organic nuts. Yummy.

Amanda- now that is really scary that they left some dressing material in his abd. I hope that they are aware that is a serious mistake and have made corrections so that doesn’t happen to any other patient. I pray that he will recover, even if it is slow. :flowerforyou:

Meg, my goal when I hit the second 35lb loss is to go back to Victoria Secret and do some shopping for me. It seems strange, but I did not grown up with the types of lingerie from VS being so in vogue. Who cared about bra’s and underwear! Boy, how times have changed, or society and money hungry marketers have changed what is so cool to wear! How old is DD#1? 19 or so. Maybe she needs to be a inpatient somewhere and get re-evaluated to find out what is really going on with her. I don’t or hope that she would not be that way on purpose? :noway: :noway:

Nancy- loved your post. 15year olds are they quite lovely. I wrote a note to Jane and I told her what I was doing in the middle east, so just look up a few posts and you will find the story there! Nice description of your window view. Here still warm and windy near 90 degrees. Send some of that weather this way, please!

Tigress, sorry to hear about your blood sugar , maybe you are starting to get sick or any infection can increase ones blood sugar? Any new meds, or maybe some hidden sugars or carbohydrates? It could be time for a medication change for you if you are on meds to help control your blood sugars? I am praying for you that all will be better. :flowerforyou:

Suebdew- welcome, welcome, just jump right in!

Jane-glad your knee is doing better. Now you have to get your back in track for all those grandbabies you get to hold and kiss chubby cheeks!

Sarah, brave of you to go ice skating. I would be so afraid of falling that my body would break in half. Not something I can do with artificial joints. Good for you, I loved it as a child!

    Good morning beautiful ladies:flowerforyou:

I`m wondering when I`m going to have a chance to slow down, this past week and so far this weekend has been totally crazy:grumble: . Got my new faucet installed on Friday, took all day to get it in, and last night I found I have a leak under the sink:sad: , my brother installed it and he`s coming by sometime this morning to check and see what the problem might be. I don`t have time for this...today is the Halloween party for the girls, and I still have so much to do:sad:   . I just had 2 light bulbs burn out in my kitchen, the recessed lights and I have no extra bulbs, which means I have to go out and find some before the party...I also forgot to buy drinks for the little ones, the oldest wants root beer, the youngest wants milk, and I forgot to buy beer for SIL:frown: , I feel like the gremlins are out and about in my house at the moment:devil: . So....I`m going to try and post this, the last two mornings my posts have disappeared into thin air:huh: .

Hope you all have a lovely Sunday!!! Drink your water:drinker: :drinker: :drinker: and log your food!!!

No tiara for me today, I have no time to meet my friends for coffee:sad: . So I will put on my witch hat and maybe scare the gremlins away!!!

    Hugs,
DeeDee....holding my breath this will post

    Morning everyone!

Spent yesterday helping DH get ready for Hurricane Sandy. We live in Southern MD so we expect heavy rain and winds. We have a generator if we lose power. Today I put a beef stew together in the crockpot, pumpkin custards in the oven and will make some apple crisp later. Wishing all on the east coast a safe time during this storm....

No weight lost this week. I am not too discouraged as my eating and exercise habits have not been up to par for about two weeks. Hopefully the scale will start going down again soon as I regain focus....

I took the sweet kitten to his forever home family on Wednesday. I was very sad Tigress...thanks for the love from you and your kitties. I know it will be okay for him but it was still hard...:sad: :brokenheart: DH was supportive throughout the ordeal and sent me the sweetest e-mail with a picture of the kitten! Sorry for your blood sugars being so out of whack... Any extra stress this week? That can wreak havoc on your sugars also... Thinking of you and hoping the A1C will be good!!!

Great group of ladies here...Thanks for everything and may your journey today and tomorrow find happiness!!

    Take care,
    Carolyn

DeeDee- Hope you get the gremlins to leave! Enjoy the party with the girls- sounds like fun.

All the discussions about VS brings to mind a trip to nyc and having my then not yet future DIL take me to her store for a bra fitting. For the first time in my life I had beautiful bras that fit properly. At first I was embarrassed, but it ended up being a day filled with lots of laughs and a new friendship as well as the most comfortable bras ever. The lady who waited on me was a close friend of Jenn and my son and wanted to work with me to find a way to get them married. She felt they were perfect for each other and she was right! We had a great reunion at my son's wedding last October. Having bras that fit properly changes the way you look and feel. Definitely worth it.

To all on the east coast- Take care and be safe! At the moment it sounds like we will get winds of 50 to 80 mph (we live up in the hills, so probably close to the 80mph for us) and lots of rain. We are in the area they feel will have flooding, but won't affect our home because we are so high up.We just may not be able to get too far since the area off the hill may flood. We are all stocked up with water, easy to fix HEALTHY foods, candles, and batteries. We don't have a generator, but our gas fireplace will run-without the fan if we lose power. The earlier predictions were worse. Am concerned about family from NC, NYC, and NH.

Everyone be safe and have a great day.

    Good morning.

Junekattz - NIght diving is the ultimate. We did a lot of it when I lived on Guam. Never say never.

Laura - I know the experience of pulling my pants up without unzipping - I've been doing it for weeks now because I don't have any pants in the size I am (well, only 2 pair). But it's ok because I'm getting really close to the next size down.

I decided today that once I get into the 150's I am going to start trying to tone it. I can do floor exercises but can't do anything requiring me to stand on my feet for extended periods. Although I can move on my feet, so maybe I could start doing step aerobics. Just standing in place does me in.

One of my kids will go trick or treating in another neighborhood today. Time to test m y resolve.

For those in the path of Sandy, batten down the hatchs and hold on. Praying you all come through well.
On the blood sugars, I think I am stressing out on the doctors appointment. So I am trying to be a little more calm. and it is helping some. I am also eating smaller portions, and getting up from the design table and walking in place for two or three minutes every pair of earrings.

DH and I went to a halloween party last night and I was good, I stayed away from the wheat items,(crackers, buns, rolls, etc.) It was nice that they had a veggie plate and apple slices. Even though most of the people were way younger than us, it was fun. The hosts were from the prepper network we belong too. No, not like the crazy people from that show.

Got to clean off my desk, and clean the office today, so I have a break from the studio, and will be in the house, which will make the cats happy. When I am in the studio, Danny sits in the window the whole time and stares at the studio. It's heart breaking:brokenheart:

I understand the NSV on the underclothes fitting better, that was the first thing I noticed was I could go in a row on my bra snaps, boy I felt great.

Well this desk is not getting clean by its self. BBL Tigress

Hello, My name is Lenore. I dont know how you keep up with this because I could sit here and read all day but I just wanted to check in. I enjoy reading everyones posts ; LOL about putting spinach in the blender and drinking a weird green smoothie for breakfast. There seems to be alot of camaraderie enjoyed here. I have been with MFP since Sept and really enjoying it with slow but consistent results due to my slow but consistent work! Nothing impressive but I did really well on a cruise that I went on , I think I gained a pound although I find that hard to believe since I thought I might have not gained at all or maybe half a pound but who knows just glad to be back on line and able to concentrate on this fully.

I have a tendency towards being a bit obnoxious (working on that!), and love to annoy my 20 year old son.

Son: I'm going to a Halloween party tonight.
Me: I could go with you, if you'd like. I have a costume!
Son: Mom, you're twice the age of anyone who would be there.
Me: That just means that I'm twice the fun!
Son: Yeah. That's what I meant. You'd have to drink shots if you went.
Me: Could I just sip on a wine shot? I'm sure you don't drink shots, do you?

I wouldn't really go, of course -- I'd hate to miss my 10:30pm bedtime.

    Kathyszoo -- Nice NSV's!

Laura80111 -- I can remember having the "pants without zipping" a couple of times in my life, but it's been a while. I look forward to the next incident!

Linda Sundance -- What an adventure! It sounds like an awesome period in your life. Saudi would have been difficult, as women's rights there were about the worst in the Middle East. Did you have to live in a compound for foreigners? I have a new friend who just became a flight attendant at the age of 56. It would be a great way to travel again.

DeeDee -- It sounds like Murphy's Law has kicked in for you! Things have a way of coming together, though, if we help them. I hope you have a wonderful party!

I've been following posts all week, but haven't been motivated to post anything myself. We've continued working in the yard - yesterday afternoon I used the ax end of the pickax to clear a 5'x30' area of bermuda grass for the blueberry plants. In the morning I went to the nursery and selected plants for delivery next weekend - so excited about them! I ordered a pink dogwood, a gorgeous vanilla-strawberry hydrangea, 6 dwarf encore azaleas, 6 dwarf loropetalum, an ornamental pomegranate (teeny tiny fruit), a pencil holly, the 6 blueberry bushes and 7 emerald green arborvitae (to go along that back fence and gain some privacy). Can't work in the yard today with the cold rain -- I needed to place blocks for the retaining wall in front of the blueberries area, but it is sloppy mud.

Since I couldn't be in the yard I've finished up my laundry, have a pork roast in the crockpot, a swiss steak in the little oven and I made broccoli-cheese soup in the Vitamix. Since DH doesn't care for swiss steak, I plan to use it as a base for minestrone soup during the week. He is out of town and returning Monday night. Still need to pay the first of the month bills and a couple of other things. Oh, I also finished up my brother's cross stitched Xmas gift -- 3 tie-died looking frogs in hear/see/speak no evil positions. Too cute and he has always had a frog fixation.

    Everyone keep at it!

    Good morning!

This is a quick check-in before I head out. I will be at Mom’s on the coast for a week so there will be no computer for me to see what is going on. I did a run up of Mom’s usual diet on the calculator and feel that I can easily stay on track except for her birthday dinner. As for exercise, a daily walk around her garden if weather permits and at the moment it’s not looking good. I also understand that this may be a trying visit as my brother tells me Mom seems to getting more confused and we may have to think about another way of life for her. She is the last of her family and all her friends are gone so her social interaction has been greatly reduced and we have noticed a downfall in her memory since her accident almost two years ago. She was shovelling snow (at 87), no she wouldn’t wait for her sons to get there and ended by compressing a disc in her spine.

Be safe my friends in the path of this hurricane!! Batten down the hatches, stow the mizzen mast and whatever else you need to do! My apologies for my self- pity yesterday at the cancellation of my NYC trip, it is small compared to what lies ahead of you. My prayers will be with all of you!

Last night’s Halloween Howler in support of the Wolverines Football Team was a ‘howling’ success. Great band, great costumes, good times! Yes, we did have costumes, I fixed my hubby up as Maverick (James Garner style)and my son went as a ‘good ol’ boy’ in his father’s fringed hide jacket, cowboy hat and a gaudy belt buckle as big as himself. I went as a drop out from Fairy Godmother School, my wings, my purple wig, a tulle net skirt and an old black bra with red curtain fringe on it (over top of a tee shirt)…. I was quite a sight I must tell you! There were cameras there so this might come back to haunt me!! Hahaha! We won one of the major door prizes which was a Coleman cooler full of liquors and since we aren’t big drinkers, we may never have to buy another bottle as long as we live!!

I hopped on the scales this morning which was probably a mistake after last night (beer and nibbles) and I seem to have put on the weight I lost while swimming so I didn’t quite meet all my October goals but I am in a smaller pant size and that is what matters most!.

See you in November, be well!
    Hugs Kate

just call me Gloomy Gus; :grumble:

i don't feel like doing anything right.....

i'm tired of dieting, and logging in, and making "good" choices, and ..... :noway:

it seems like i've spent a LOT of time and effort at this (at least for me, anyway), and it's just not showing up.....:grumble:

i know, i didn't get to be this SIZE overnight, and it will take the rest of my life to get healthy..... :ohwell:

i'm sure this weather change has affected my brain as well as the pain in my joints.... :grumble:

i love the cooler temps, but not the arthritis..... i'm just TIRED of it all!!!! :frown:

i thought i was about ready to go back to work, and now another set-back.....

i stood in line for over an hour at the courthouse Friday, for early voting..... i had already checked out the line at the library, and it was out the door, and i figured it would be easier at the courthouse.... (NOT!) i guess i should have just gone home, and tried it another day, but i thought, " i'm here, might as well get it done". little did i know standing in line (with a cane) and slowly shuffling down a hallway for over an hour would do me in.... :frown:

i have "paid" for it since....  there's NO WAY i could stay on my feet for most of the day and teach..... :noway: :noway:

i know my former principal would have been fine with me staying in a chair for most of the day, but i'm not sure if my new one would.... it takes 45 minutes to an hour to commute on a "good day", so i allow myself at least 90 minutes to make the trip to school..... sitting that long "freezes" me up....

i'm sorry to have been so gripey for so long.... :embarassed:
i just needed to vent..... we're playing the "gotta hear from the insurance folks" game at physical therapy again.... we have optimistically scheduled for W & F next week, but i can't go back until they hear from the insurance folks, even though my doc has requested that the therapy be extended....

i can't seem to find a "happy" balance w/ meds, either~ i still have a LOT of pain, even with the Celebrex and the Aleve, and i'm afraid to ask for anything stronger~ the other things i've tried just knock me out..... i DO believe the exercise really makes things better, at least for the next day. but when i "over-do" it, it seems to take 3-4 days to return to "normal"

i will try to refrain from posting until i can be positive and encouraging! :blushing:

hope you all are having a blessed day, and that the week ahead will be a GOOD one!

Janie- So sorry to hear of all of the setbacks you are dealing with. Feel free to vent. Sometimes it helps a little. It makes me angry to think that insurance companies make it so difficult to get what you need and deserve to help yourself get healthier. As a teacher myself, I can see why you would find it too challenging to deal with when you are experiencing the health issues you are presently dealing with. I hope all improves quickly for you. You sound dedicated to getting back to your students. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Happy Sunday aka the day before the storm. I am in NY about 90 minutes north of NYC. The media has me a little freaked out. We do get water in the basement but have two sump pumps which work well as long as we have power:happy: if we lose our power we will be sol:cry: I did inventory in the basement and most things are either in plastic tubs or outnof harms way...except my exercise equipment..dh will be home tomorrow so hopefully he will keep an eye on things:happy:

DS came home yesterday and will be here for two weeks. Of course he is busy connecting with friends but he promised to be home for dinner tomorrow. We had time for a good visit yesterday afternoon...heard more about his experience in Afghanistan ..yeah glad I did not know stuff before he came back. He really is growing into quite a man..still acts like a knucklehead but the man is emerging.

I had a good week with workouts and eating was ok not great..I am trying to REALLY listen to the body and not just eat my normal (even the new normal) portions. I am trying to not have anything off limits but realize that some things are best not being a regular occupant of my pantry (ie cheese its!! ) this has somehow worked with my wine...I used to have a glass or two every night and more on the weekend...then I was only a Thursday -Sunday girl...now I don't even miss it during the week and my weekend consumption is considerably less (most of the time) and right now that is not hard for me. I am not sure exactly how that happened but am hoping I get there with food or at least my carbs ...time will tell.

Thanks for listening (reading) to my ramble. Congrats to the victories on and off the scale, hugs and prayers for the challenges of parents and children and high fives all around because we will be successful in time.:flowerforyou:

 Hi ladies. What a beautiful day here. Nice a sunny and pleasantly cool. I spent the day at work and got tons done, plus had a test review session that about ½ of my students came to, so that was impressive! Stopped to see dad in the nursing home, and now I’m home and falling asleep LOL. :smokin:

Nancy: I have always wanted to go to the middle east; your trip sounds wonderful!

Tigress: how’s your blood sugar? Are they going to recheck it?

Lila: that shall be my mantra: “this too shall pass! This too shall pass!”

Suebdew: welcome! OF course you can join us! Come back often

Janehadji: I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m sure your friend was blessed to have you in her life. Thank you for your thoughts on my motivation issue! I can’t recall the names of the Persian food I have eaten, but lots of pistachios, lentils (I think), lamb…..I have loved everything they have fed me! We have a great Persian restaurant here called Ahmad’s…now I’m going to have to go there again!:flowerforyou:

Jane: you are just glowing in that picture!

Wessecg: buy halloween candy you don’t like. In my case, it’s the chocolate. I like very tiny little bites, but put smarties or sweet tarts in front of me and I go crazy. I ate so many sweet tarts once I had sores in my mouth for a week!

Kathy: such great NSVs. You must feel fabulous!

Michele: I bet you are just melting away in that spa!

Laura: what a great NSV!!!!! Next thing you know, they will fall off!

Linda: I’m glad the doc was pleased with your progress. You’ll be really happy when you finally have that operation, but I
guess I don’t need to tell you that! DD#1 is 19, but she has such a language barrier that no one will evaluate her for anything. Or they will and charge thousands and tell me that the results are not accurate because of the language….we’ve been told that. I think she just doesn’t have any idea of what goes on around her.

DeeDee: you are having such a “witchy day”. I hope it gets better! The rule in our house is when something is half gone, it goes on the shopping list. I do a walmart run once a month and the girls have learned I am totally serious about this little rule. So we actually have way more “stuff” like light bulbs than we need, but I guess that’s ok.

Carolyn: you are such a good person to find a forever home for kitty!:flowerforyou:

    Lenore: welcome to our group!

Janie: we are in the gloomy gus party bus together! I am with you girl…tired of logging food, trying to plan exercise, tired of passing up so many yummy treats! It WILL get better!!!!! I have been assured by all my friends here that this will pass. Linda told me that this is a healthy life choice, not a diet. We all go off the wagon sometimes that’s for sure. But a healthy lifestyle will soon become that, a lifestyle you can engage in without much thought, just like you probably used to eat and not exercise without much thought (if you are like me!). Hey I just cheered myself up! We are all here for you! You post all you want…don’t stay away because you don’t want to be negative. That’s why we are here. You should post MORE when you feel down. Let us all help you get back up. Hugs to you!:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

Jen: yay for your son being home!!!!!

Well I know this is short, but after all my work this week and a Sunday to boot, I’m exhausted. It’s time for a shower and baseball. Baseball this time of year is GRAND! Take care and stay safe for all of you in the storm’s path. :drinker:

I heard a really interesting interview with a personal trainer who, after listening to a lot of his clients telling him he didn't know how hard it was to lose weight, because he had never had to, put on 60 pounds in 6 months and then got back in shape. The book is called fit2fat2fit. He gained a lot of empathy for his clients as a result, and discovered how hard it is to change nad habits. Even now, he says, he craves unhealthy food. The podcast of this interview is already up at

Sorry to hear about your hand Sundance. I have arthritis so bad in my right thumb that I can't sign my name sometimes. I need to see a doctor.

scompton - I've never understood how folks can complain that it's hard to lose weight. It's not really hard. Slow, but not hard. What's hard is refraining from eating too many calories. I don't think I'd respect someone who purposely gained 60 pounds.

:flowerforyou: Linda Sundance, the town I live in is jokingly called “where old people go to visit their parents”. There is a high concentration of retired people so for a small town there are a lot of people available to go to line dance classes during the day. I only go to classes. Occasionally at the Elk’s or Eagle’s club there is a band that plays music suitable for line dancing and some of the dancers go and claim a place on the floor to dance but I’ve never done that. Often there are line dance classes held at Senior Centers or at least the Senior Center might have information about where classes are held. I found out about the classes I go to because they were listed in the local paper in a section about things to do in town.

:flowerforyou: It took me until I was 62 years old to surrender to the fact that my life had been governed by food. When that happened I made the decision to give up food as recreation and it’s made a huge difference.

:noway: All this news about hurricane Sandy has brought back memories of my two years in Okinawa where we were on perpetual watch during typhoon season. Every weekend we had to make preparations in our classrooms in case a typhoon came. In two years I think there were two typhoons. I lived upstairs in the concrete block BOQ so we were physically safe, but we had to make sure we had food, water, and batteries. We had big “typhoon parties” with a lot of booze and laughter----we were young and oblivious to the destruction to homes and business off base. My warmest wishes and concern go to all of you in the path of the hurricane.

    Good evening beautiful ladies:flowerforyou:

Linda:smile::flowerforyou: Saying a prayer for you, and hoping this will get better soon!!!

Sarah:smile: Thanks for the link, I`m going to give it a view tomorrow!!

Cheryl:smile: You`re right it`s not that hard to lose weight, slow for sure though, and I certainly need to remember that at times!

Meg:smile: I usually try to have extra things, I have extra toilet paper, extra toothpaste, paper towels, just not light bulbs, it seems like when one burns out, I have another one burn out every two weeks until I`ve finally changed them all:angry: , and now I have a hard time finding the ones for the recessed lights, I need a 50watt, I can find 65, 75, and 90 watt, but not 50:explode:, and I have 11 of them in my kitchen, I think I need to find 2 more and they will all finally be fairly new!!! Enjoy the baseball game!!

Janie:smile: I`m sending you a big hug!!! We all get down and irritated at some point or another, it`s what we do with all that energy afterwards, you can do this, I know you can!!! Tell us about the things that are irritating you, I don`t often have answers, but with this fabulous group of women, someone always has words of wisdom!!! We`re all here for you, so when things are getting you down tell us about it, don`t hold it in, been there and done that and it`s not a good feeling!!!:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

We had a wonderful party tonight! The girls dressed up in their costumes, the oldest was a skunk, I called her my little stinker, and the youngest was a beautiful bumble bee, I called her, my little stinger!!! They got here around 5:30pm and it was still light so after a few bites of cheese and crackers they were ready to get on the golf cart, the oldest took her dad for a ride and then they picked up the little one, then they came in and wanted mommy to ride, they were gone for quite a while, and I thought maybe my daughter had taken them out in the field, where she used to drive it when she was young, brought back such memories:love: , my daughter would take one of our cell phones and it never failed she and her friend would get stuck in the field and we`d have to go rescue them:laugh: ! Everyone had a great time and finally came in after dark, I think I should check into getting a golf cart with lights:tongue: . A funny twist tonight, the oldest was drinking a root beer, the little one only drinks milk or water, the little one is eating candy and says to the oldest "you know drinking soft drinks too often is not good for you", all the while stuffing her sweet little face full of candy:laugh:, talk about calling the kettle black:laugh: . We all had a good laugh at it!!!
Well ladies, I am tired, actually I`m beyond tired:yawn:   ! I`m not doing anything this week so I should (keeping my fingers crossed) be able to catch up on all the replys!!! Hope everyone has a wonderful evening!!! Sleep well and sweet dreams, for those in the midst of the storm, stay safe!!!

    Hugs,

Everyone in the Northeast, stay safe and please check in as soon as you can, we'll all be worried.

Laura - that's just wonderful that you were able to pull your pants up without unzipping them.

Sarah - welcome back! I remember when I bought my first pair of skates in a long time. I'd been working out and figured I was in pretty good shape.....wrong. Did my legs hurt!

Linda - as far as applesauce replacing butter, it can be done. What I do many times is if a recipe calls for, say, 1 cup of butter, I'll use 1/2 cup butter and 1/2 cup applesauce. That is, unless it's like an apple cake or apple cookies. Then I might use all applesauce. Like I say, you can use a 1:1 substitution, but I like a bit of butter. That's just me, tho. Even replacing 1/2 the butter with applesauce is a help not only in calories but also in the fat dept. Oh, last night Jessica told us that we need to have drink holders on the side of the spa for champaigne glasses. When Vince heard "glasses" you should have seen him! "No glass in the spa". We had to tell him that they do make plastic champaigne glasses. Why he didn't think of that, I don't know. I know he's had to use plastic champaigne glasses before.

Jessica just told us that the people across the street from us got a spa. They were going to get a pool but according to Jessica they got just a spa because they didn't want to have to constantly worry about the kids falling into a pool (the oldest is in kindergarten and the youngest is a little over a year). Honestly, I think in a few years the kids will be bored with the spa. You can't jump into it or anything. For a while, it might be OK, but I honestly don't think for very long. They did have their house on the market a while ago, had very few (if any) lookers but they may be hoping that they'll be moving in a few years. I don't know.......

Let's see. got up, did 1 hr of balance games on the Wii, read the paper, took the aluminum to the Human Society for them to recycle yesterday so I cleaned out the pail where we keep them, also cleaned out the cooler we used for water for the workers (boy, does that red clay stain!), finished spraying for the weeds where we are going to be putting down river rock, made a triple chocolate cheesecake but in the 9 x 13 pan so hopefully I can cut it into nice squares -- made it since a guy from the pool co. is supposed to be here sometime this week to do a good power wash. They used red chalk to mark where they were going to put the stress cracks in the concrete. We were told that he would use a powerful spray and that would take it off, sure hope so. Lynette called and asked me to go to a concert with her. To be honest, I really didn't feel like it, she did tell me that she called a few people first and they either couldn't go or weren't home but it really doesn't matter that much. I did go, sort of enjoyed myself. She stopped at McD's for a double with cheese and bacon then put mayo on it, I didn't have anything. We stopped at Dunkin Donuts because Vince likes them. I was surprised that at 9:30 they only had glazed chocolate and red velvet donuts, so I got 1/2 dozen of the glazed chocolate for Vince (I really don't care for them) and got Lynette a dozen - 1/2 and 1/2. Going to get ready for tomorrow. I'll do some yoga then take the extremepump class.

We live far enough inland that they aren't expecting that we'll get much from this storm, if anything.

lenore - where did you go? How long were you gone? Sounds like you're making good choices

Kate - have a good time at your mom's. WTG on the smaller pants size

Janie - I'm willing to bet that there ARE good things happening in your body, they just take a while for you to see them. Don't give up, you can do it, and we're right here. Post here, if you don't, we'll all be worried. Even if you don't feel your posts are positive, that's OK. This isn't just a positive place, it's for when we're postivie and not, so please post. At least for me, worrying makes me eat more. And you don't want to be the case of my overeating, now do you????

Meg - I have the same rule, when I'm using the last bag of something (be it flour, or cheese) it goes on the shopping list.

    Linda Sundance - (((hugs)))))

Hoping everyone has a great evening.

    Michele

    Hello Ladies,

Good to be able to stop and be able to read your posts. Today was normal but sort of busy. Last night went out with some co-workers to a play and dinner before. The play was at midnight. So I didn't get home till 3am but this morning in Had a sift I was covering for a friend. I normally never work Sunday but a good friend need to go out of town for a funeral. So I did it. So after being out all night got up in the morning to go work. But all I can stay is I did it myself.

@Michele, @Meg I have the same rule that when I open the last bag of anything it goes on the shopping lists, I normally always have at least one in the pantry that way not without the basics.

@Linda so sorry you are hurting praying for you!

@Dee sounds like a very fun time with your grandkids. Fun times

@Barbie thank you for sharing such great advice.

@cheryl I don't think it s hard to loose weight its slow as I am learning I think what's hard is getting the right thinking about food. and learning portion control/

I am just exhuasted good night everyone. I am off tomorrow and my plan is to relax

thanks, Michele~ i don't want to be the cause of YOUR overeating! i have a hard enough time managing my own.....

when i went over to Mama's to watch the ballgame with her (World Series), i noticed there was a FULL moon~ so i'll blame my emotional rant on that! :ohwell:

THANK YOU, EVERYONE on this wonderful message board! when i take the time to read your posts, it DOES make things better!

now, i just need to find some warmer clothes that i can wiggle into, and get ready to go back to the gym tomorrow and move these arthritic bones and flabby muscles-to-be again, and to quote my friend CindyB, "make your fat cells CRY", aka, SWEAT!!

hoping my doc and i can find the best meds to deal with all of this when i go back for the next appt.

does anyone have a favorite recipe they'd like to share?
what are some of your tips to deal with the "i really shouldn't eat anything else this evening, but i'm ready to lick the plaster on the walls" feeling?
-or- this ALMOST tastes like dessert, but it isn't~

thanks for lifting me up~ i know it's quite a load.....

take CARE of yourself~ you're WORTH it!

I'm just checking in before going off to work and saw the post about light bulbs. We are starting the conversion to the LED bulbs and they are wonderful! We've started with those recessed lights in our kitchen. They were about $30/bulb at the big orange box store, BUT... they use so much less energy, have a great white light and will burn 22+ years at ~ 3 hrs/day. Since we run ours more than that I guess we'll have to change them in 15 or 16 years. Anyway, we replaced 3 that were out one month and 3 the next.

CFL bulbs - we didn't care for the color of the light, the relative dimness of them or the buzzing sound they made, PLUS they have mercury in them so disposal is problematic.

    Have a good day!

Welcome to a new week! :flowerforyou:

Monday, Monday. A new experience for me begins this week, I have a student teacher working with me. She’s been observing in the classroom a few times, today she starts teaching some of the lessons. Next term (after Christmas) she will gradually take over until she’s teaching full time. I’m curious about the experience and very conscious that I must “let go” of my students and my classroom routine for her. :ohwell: We start the week with a 60-minute art-prep, though, so lots of time to talk through things and plan for the day.

Did a great New Rules of Lifting workout yesterday, :explode: today will be a treadmill 3 to 5K run (depends how inspired I am when I get there!)

Lila, did you get those leaves done?

Jane, Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend,:flowerforyou: it sounds like she lived her life to the fullest and inspired you along the way. What a great role model.

Wessecg, Halloween Candy does not have to boss you around. :noway: Just tell it where to go and make it stay there!

Kathy, congratulations on your NSV’s with top size and extra energy for walking. :drinker:

Laura, I have a vivid image of you & your DH in the grocery store, reading labels and discussing sodium & carbs, etc. Very good role models! Congratulations on the NSV – pulling on your pants without un-zipping. Bet you had to wear a belt, too!

Sarah, good to see you back. Ah, yes, balance, ‘tis the magic recipe, no doubt. I heard that interview on CBC too, the one about the guy who gained weight etc. Interesting.

Barbie, My immersion blender is an Oster. Definitely bottom of the line, it cost me $20 at the local hardware store. I didn’t want to invest any more $$ ‘til I knew if I’d like it. When this one wears out I’ll look at the small appliance ratings in Consumer Reports and upgrade. I can’t believe how much I use it – last night it was out to puree the mashed potatoes!

Linda/Sundance, there’s nothing more important that a good bra! Give Victoria’s Secret a pass and go to a serious lingerie store. You might end up spending $100 apiece, but you’ll thank yourself every time you look in the mirror. I used to be something like a 36F, I know what I’m on about here! Just do it. What an adventure living in Saudi must have been. Do you want to travel again?

Janie, glad to hear you’ve voted, even if it did cost you knee pain. Take care of yourself.

Meg, I’m glad to read you had a productive Sunday and feel less overwhelmed by your workload. Your DD#1 is a puzzle, no doubt.

I'd better get moving and brew myself up another one of those great green smoothies - get this week a-rollin'

    Hasta pronto,

    Nancy

    October goals:
Try a different drop-in exercise class at the Rec Centre - curling might have to count for this one, I am almost out of time.
Re-start New Rules of Lifting for Life - I'm well on my way.
Go for a walk with Buster-the-Dog four days a week - Hmmm, may have to re-work this one.
Stay positive when folks get negative at work, surround myself with positive people.
    Count my blessings! :flowerforyou:

 Linda, sorry to hear about your hand. Did you do anything with a different hand action the day before? I also suffer with arthritis and tendonitis in my wrist and thumb ~ there are days I can't turn a door knob without feeling extreme pain. Other times, it's fine ~ go figure! I've been taking Tylenol for Arthritis (long acting) when it gets really bad. Not sure if it helps all that much, but it makes me feel better that I'm doing something...:ohwell:

Good Monday morning! I love this group because it seems like friends meeting and talking over coffee. Stay safe all of you on the East coast and also inland. You're in my prayers.
I had a wonderful surprise this morning when I logged in and only had 23 calories left for the day! Seems everything from yesterday logged on for Monday. Guess I get a mulligan (golfers know what that is, a do-over.) My church is reading the Bible in 90 days so yesterday I spent a lot of time reading. Keeps me from snacking!
Lost 1.5 lbs this week which is more than usual. I hope I get to know you all better. Will take notes from now on. Keep on keeping on.
