Always a good reminder!
Thanks for your post:happy:0 -
To reinforce this point, several years ago (1980s) I lost down to 170 lbs after having gone up to 260 or so... I was proud and had gotten to the point that I could wear a medium shirt and a size 34 pair of pants... I was proud... and rightfully so. My weight was in my ideal body weight range and I could get around and move.
Then a few months ago, I found myself in a tight size 48 pant and 2X-3X shirts (depending on style)... I was 344 lbs and rising.. I watched what I ate, joined the gym and started weight training and aerobic activity... Where am I today? Once again, I am in a size 34 pant (loose fit) AND CAN wear a size medium shirt though I usually wear a large since it really DOES feel better.
The Weight? Am I back to 170? no, 180? No... Actually I weighed in at ... 236.5 lbs... are there differences in how my clothes fit? yeah... but still at 66 lbs over what I was when I was in this size before... there is not THAT much variability... The scale means far less than measurements.0 -
I AGREE! I've given up with the scales, COMPLETELY! I actually feel happier and much more free! It's like a burden, right off my shoulders! I know the scales are never accurate and having Hypothyroidism makes things even worse, so now I'm eating right, working out and focusing on the way I feel, not what the scales say.0

Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! You just took the breath out of me, you have a way of saying things as if ur a prophetess. I love the way you whine, naaaa, ur a wonder don't EVER stop encouraging us.
I agree with u totally cos I've been fasting since Monday after being good and working out throughout last week only to be told by the scale this morning that I added 2kg, man, I was so angry and frUstrated.
Am told I look leaner and I can feel it too but the scales want to frustrate my effort. With ur post, am going to keep doing what am doing and u know I told u I've started lifting a 30 something kg weight 10 x 3 each day for now.
Thank you for the encouraging words.0 -
Lolzzzzzz, the scale does have moods I tell u, hahahahahaha.0

I can't count how many threads I've seen just in the past week that were along the lines of "My clothes are getting looser and I look thinner, but the DAMN SCALE WON'T BUDGE! How can I make the number drop!?!"
Stop it. Just stop it. Now.
If you're getting smaller, you're doing things right. It doesn't matter what the effect the earth's gravitational pull has on you at any given moment. No one knows that number but you.
To illustrate that point... Last October, I reached my goal weight of 126 pounds. I wanted to be 9 stones. No, I'm not British, but I like the number nine. And actually, I got to 125.5 pounds. To celebrate my victory over the bastardly scale, I bought new jeans.
These are those jeans last year.
Happy camper. Loved how I looked.
SINCE then, the scale has bounced around quite a bit. Between being on the bench about six weeks in January with a stress fracture, some trial and error with trying to find exactly what maintenance is, a few lazy weeks in June when I lost my mojo and then caught the flu... But I stuck with it, and tried to ignore the scale best I could. I eat about 2100 calories a day Monday through Friday, don't log on the weekends at all, run 3x a week and lift weights 3x a week (stronglifts 5x5, just started week 2, but I've been lifting).
I'm currently about 132-133 pounds. And here's those same jeans today.
I'm about 7 or 8 pounds heavier, but I could smuggle a loaf of bread down my pants.
And that's why I always say... Track your progress through measurements, how clothes fit, and progress photos, not just by the scale. The scale is a lying, cheating *kitten* who kicks puppies and takes candy from babies. Don't give it any power over you.
Like I said in a couple threads today... Losing pounds is like getting a promotion at work with a big fancy title, but no pay raise. Losing inches without much in the line of pounds is like getting a big fat pay raise. Which will matter more in your day to day life?
(Edit: I hate how the camera flash washes out all definition. :grumble: )
I love you. Been seeing your posts for quite awhile now and always so inspirational. I too hit my goal of 125 in May 2012 and am now at 130 (fluctuates) yet I'm smaller. Thanks to your posts and others like it I just laugh at the scale and gaze lovingly at my muscles0 -
You rule. The end.0

This post came at just the right time. Thank you.0

I love it.
It's hard not to fixate on the scale, which is why I've put it in a new, unlikely-o-be-stepped-on-at-random-times location. Feeling much better about myself, and trying to notice the way I feel more than the number I see!

This is just what I needed today! Thanks!0

Thankyou for this.... just what I needed. I just put my scale away a few days ago, it just wasn't helping me at all by not showing results of all my hard work. I feel better already!0

ditto
And ditto again! The proof is in the pudding or in this case in the photos!0 -
I made an excel spread sheet for this Body Revolution #2. I include a weekly weigh in and measurements. See I can lose inches, a lot of inches and little weight so I decided to track it weekly. I would be ok being a size 8 or 10 and be 150 pounds. Not all about that stupid scale!0

All around greatness. Great post. Great progress.0

I needed to read this post today. My clothes are getting bigger on me but I can not seem to get past a certain number on the scale. I tend to let the number on the scale decide what kind of day I am having. I am going to bookmark this thread so I can remind myself that my scale is a liar! You look amazing!!! Great job and one day I hope to have amazing abs like you!0
-
Thank you thank you thank you! I am about 1kg heavier than my last weigh in and was so confused as I just had my mother telling me how much smaller I look AND I have been feeling so much thinner with my clothes feeling much better. Maybe I will stay away from the scale for a while and just enjoy being healthier.0

I needed to see this post, it has really been an eye opener. You look awesome!!!!!!!0

Thanks I needed this! I hate that stupid scale! lol0

"The scale is a lying, cheating *kitten* who kicks puppies and takes candy from babies. Don't give it any power over you."
I've always called the scale a lying *kitten*. But your post puts it in a whole new perspective.

I weigh myself weekly & this morning was my weigh in day. I was excited going to bed last night cause I knew I'd had a good week & put in a good effort & hadn't gone off course at all during the past week and I couldn't wait to see how my scale had changed. Only to get up, hop on the scale & be promptly depressed to find out the scale hadn't budged...not even .1!!! Immediately all the bad feelings & self doubt & 'why am I doing this?' started to cloud my mind. I quickly went back to my home page & seen a post called 'The Scale Does Not Define You' and clicked on it...only to find a great post with the only words in the world that could cheer me up right now (quoted up top at the beginning of my post)...actually laughed out loud! Thank you so much for the quick reminder...just what I needed this morning!
PS-you look amazing & congrats on your continued success0 -
