    :blushing:
A guy who has issues with intimacy (due to his past) and is learning to trust with the help of a girl. And on the other end, a naive girl who is learning to push her boundaries in the name of love.

Having been in a similar relationship (as YOU put it, not what everyone raves about), I find this part interesting. I'm just starting the first one. Haven't gotten to the steamy parts yet. Watching Ana and Grey's relationship begin is like reading my own story. Telling him about it and having him see it too... priceless. :blushing:
I don't give a hoot about the writing. I've read amazing authors and lousy authors and it all comes down to what the story says to you, IMO.

Wait until you get the the part with the contract...I died. XD

I don't think I was ever more annoyed with a book. (I want to punch her inner goddess down...there)

But I suppose I can't say anything because I did read all 3.

    Atleast it kept me entertained.

I have read the 1st and 2nd and struggling through the 3rd. I cringe every time I read "my inner goddess". :ohwell:

That and the words "oh my". XD

    Haha! And "down there"!

Meh. I'm not interested in reading it. And I've heard that the writing is horrible, but then again, I've also heard that it isn't being read for the storyline lol....

^^ This, however a coworker is raving about it, she read all 3 in less then a week. I'm curious to see what the hype is about.
  • The "please", "oh my", and "my inner goddess" is ridiculous! Read them all cause I had to finish what I started, needless to say, it didn't get any better.

Absolutely the worst book. I wanted to see what the hype was, and I am struggling to finish it. It's all been said here - horribly pathetic writing, poor character development, very little plot, repetivitive phrasing, and did I mention BORING? Even the sex scenes were boring and so predictable. Christian is an overrated abuser and has no depth. I would've kicked his *kitten* three ways from Sunday for beating me for "rolling my eyes". I want to smack the **** out of stupid Ana. Get some self respect! I will not read the other 2. Nor will I see the movies - how the hell can they make movies out of these books? Without overt sex scenes, there's no story and no characters to like. They better get a hell of a good screenwriter to fix this train wreck.

The only thing I regret is that I didn't take a weekend to write them myself and make millions. Then sell the rights to Vivid Video so they could make a bad porn and i could make even more money. 50 Shades of Millions........

Love it!!!! And I, too, regret that you didn't take a weekend to write the books, because I can tell that you'd have done a much better job of it!
  • I'm halfway through the second book. My friends recommended the series to me, a lot of them couldn't put it down. The writing is pretty poor, and somewhat akin to porn. I'll finish reading the series, but I'd rather be spending time getting steamy in my own bed! (I'll lose more calories that way..) ;P
  • When I started reading the series, I knew well ahead of time that I wasn't going to be reading literary classics. It was just for fun and an excuse to not read work related material etc. I liked the story and envisioning the characters, even flipped over some of the stuff because it was repetitive. I see the books as kind of like most of the tv shows out there, mindless shows, but just fun to sometimes relax and watch.

Agreed. And I didn't find Christian attractive in anyway. I won't get sucked into the movies though. I'm not sure how they make a movie when it was sex scenes every 5 pages. I'm not spending $15 on a movie ticket when I could watch porn online for free

I am SO SORRY you finished them... :flowerforyou:
  • No- I have a teen son at home. If he saw me reading that or got hold of the book...
Not that I don't want to read them though! Just gonna have to be when he's not around.

He never goes out of the house? It's in ever store that sells books. I'm betting he wouldn't bother picking up something Mom was reading, anyway.
    [/q

He does leave the house of course- but I'll just read them the next time I go on a business trip :) Just don't want him or any of his friends that come over perusing them if I happen to step out of the house.

I walked by a twelve year old girl telling her mom how all her friends were reading this awesome book and how she really wanted to read it too... It would be nice if these books weren't placed in the "teen romance" section of some stores...

I read all three in about a week, then turned around and read them again. The 2nd is by far the best. I loved them. I almost gave up halfway thru the first one because I thought there were too many similarities between Christian and Ana and Edward and Bella (minus the vampire). Mature, responsible, young woman falls for a rich, extremely handsome young man. He tells her that he is no good for her and she should stay away from him, yet comes to her rescue because he can't stay away and they fall for each other. I even thought that Ana and Bella had the same kind of relationships with their parents and they both worked in Sporting Good stores. And the guys both have an overwhelming need for control and keeping the women safe.

Anyway, I love 50 and I love Twilight, too so I'm not complaining. Also read Bared to You and loved it as well. Can't wait for part 2 of that one to be released.
  • They were okay, I liked that they focused alot on the emotional part of a BDSM relationship while not losing the nitty gritty good stuff. That being said, the nitty gritty could have been much much more, it got rather vanilla. They are a good relationship read, but if you are looking for some down and dirty, there are way better titles I can think of!

I was dissappoint that he didn't break her and instead compromised.

I read them pretty quick, will watch the movies. But not something I would reread
  • One the last one but cant make my self read it. Trying to finish in hopes of a great ending

I've read the first two and started on the 3rd one and I got bored with that one but I'm a huge fan of Christian Grey. I think there wasn't enough spice for me in the last book haha. I dunno.
