Understanding this is a lifestyle change should help you know that two days will not ruin anything. Make modifications for the next week to offset what you did for the past two days...or brush it off all together and readjust!
Slow and steady wins the race.0 -
Well said
Okay my love first things first...stop making excuses! You don't need an expensive gym pass or over priced 'healthy' foods. Walking for 60 minus a day at a pace that makes you breathless but you can still talk can burn up to and over 700 calories.
Gym memberships are over rated. Want to lift weights..get a couple cans of soup. Want to use the elliptical..go up and down two or the same steps for 15 minutes. Want a treadmill..go outside and walk.
As for the not being able to afford healthy foods..that is bull. I feed my family of three very healthy well balanced meals on a budget of $200 a month. It all comes down to wise spending. Instead of fresh veggies go with frozen..same for meats. Store brand is just as good as name brand but a whole lot cheaper.
If you can't afford a good bra, wrap them girls up tight in an ace bandage. Make yourself a workout jar. Each time you workout for at least an hour drop a dollar in it. If you do it every day for a month..get a good bra. Same for shoes.
Workout shoes don't have to be expensive but have to be comfortable.
Until you stop feeling sorry for yourself, and quit making excuses, this will be hard.

You can do it. I'm a dirt poor college student. I only get paid once a month and I can't even afford to buy new clothes for myself, but I've still dropped 42 lbs. You can do it and you will do it if you really want to.0
-
Listen. We all have our weak moments. It happens. Stop being so hard on yourself.0
-
If you want something bad enough you can make it happen, a good attitiude is how do I push through this and not this threads title.
If you can't make it happen and its something you can control then you don't want it enough!0 -
Think of it like trying to remodel a house, while you're living in it.
You can't overhaul everything at once. You have to tackle it one room at a time.
It's the same way going from eating whatever you want to "dieting." Especially if you set your goals to 2 pounds a week, where you're probably cutting your calorie intake in half. Start with one pound or a half pound a week to get started.
Make a small change you can stick with, and stick with it. Make it something simple, like eating a healthy breakfast. Do that for two weeks, then switch to eating a healthy breakfast and a healthy lunch. Start small with exercise, too, like going for a walk. Use an app like Runkeeper to track your distance and time, and try to increase your pace and distance next week.0 -
If that's what you tell yourself, then that's what will happen. Suck it up, put on your big girl panties and don't make excuses. You CAN do this if you stick with it.0
-
Just google Fitness Blender. There are lots of free workouts on there that use just your body weight. Yes they are hard but they will get easier. I spent two years going up and down 5lbs every week until I got my butt in gear and started using this sight. You can wean yourself off junk food but only you can believe in you. What's the alternative? Hating the mirror and every picture taken. Not an option.0

Carry bottles of Crystal Light and diet soda everywhere for whenever you get the urge to pig out. Chug that *kitten*! Then you'll be so full you won't be able to think of food.
I have to say that it terrible advice about the diet soda! Diet soda causes sugar cravings and hunger pangs!! I cut out the diet soda and dropped 2 kgs (4.4 lbs) in a few weeks with no other changes to my diet.
And it doesn't count what you did in 2 days, look at the whole weeks, the month and your future!0 -
Only two days of eating bad and you are ready to give in? Don't! Two days is nothing, you have a lifetime of change ahead, do you want to spend the next TEN years not liking yourself? Take a week, take a day... but just get back on track. Life happens, you will go on vacations and overeat... it's just a fact of life, just start making healthy choices so you can see a difference in the future0
-
Me either. And what I mean by that is that's not my goal. Yeah, I'd like to look cute and wear smaller clothes, but that's not the point of loosing weight for me. At least not right now. I've had some heath issues so right now my purpose is to get my blood pressure and cholesterol under control. I also want to teach healthy eating habits to my kids before they turn to pop and candy bars, like I did. I know that in making a healthier lifestyle for myself, weight loss will just be a side effect.0
-
Not all is lost......two days won't make a difference at all. I have had these days as well and I work twice as hard the next day to lose it. This is a FOR LIFE decision not just a few months then your off the wagon. You have to decide that your going to eat healthy and exercise for the rest of your life it is truly a life-long commitment. This outlook has made me very successful with this program is the biggest advice i can give. To agree with everyone else as well, if you want it bad enough you can make it happen.0

There are plenty of cheap healthy foods available if you care to look for them. Weight loss isn't necessarily hard, but it takes a lot of patience and effort. Fruits, veggies, whole grain rice, pasta etc are not expensive, and you can buy lean cuisine meals for 2-2.50 a meal. Unless all you're eating is ramen, I don't see how bad meals could be cheaper than that. If you do start buying fresh, just make sure you eat it and don't buy too much at once or it will go bad and therefore be a waste of money.
Walking is a great exercise. If you have trouble doing that then make goals for it, like finding a point 1 mile from yourself then walking there and back, then the next day try to do it faster or a greater distance. Or walk around the grocery store for a while in search of healthy, cheap ingredients for meals, or walk in a park or a mall. Walking is walking, just get out of the house.0 -
I should mention, it's feeling impossible because I can't AFFORD healthy food. I can't AFFORD a gym pass. All I can do walk, I can't run because I don't have a proper bra, which I need. I can't afford one. Don't even have runners. All the food I have is salty and bad...
Please don't take what I am about to say the wrong way... BUT... There are a lot of people doing this everyday who can't AFFORD things you've listed above, including me. I work full time, and have 2 kids to take care of (I pretty much work to pay daycare $250 a week) not to mention all the things my kids NEED... So I understand where you are coming from. But I refuse to let that stand in my way. I can't AFFORD a gym membership - so I workout at home (FREE). I can't AFFORD "Heathy" food - so I watch my portions on the food I can AFFORD. Who said you "have" to run - walking in just as effective - people do it everyday. You can't afford a "good" sports bra - do what I do and double up on a cheap on or where a cheap one a regular bra. There is a solution to every excuse you've listed. My question to you is - how bad do you want it? Anything worth having is worth working hard for. So what if you ate like a Cow for 2 days straight. Today is a NEW day. If you don't want it - you will NEVER get it. If you do want it you will get up and make it happen the best way you can. I'm just sayin...0 -

There are ways to do this and eat healthier. Don't eat fast food, buy cheap meats and canned goods and make meals with it. Thoses would be healthier than fast food and prepackaged foods aren't good either. You can check out different websites by google healthy cheap meals and you can find some great things.
I have not belonged to a gym for years. I have started this journey in January. I have lost over 40 pounds since then and about 95% of the time was from walking. You can walk outside or there are videos you can do at home through youtube. I own a bunch of Leslie Sansone videos, but you can still see some of them online.
THE THING IS DON'T GIVE UP!!!
If you want it bad enough, there are ways to do it.0 -
You probably have your calories to low and are sacrificing too much. That's not the way to succeed.0
-
Don't give up!! I can't afford healthy food or a good sports bra and I joined the YMCA where they go by your income, we don't get any type of public assistance, we live paycheck to paycheck. But to incorporate fruits and veggies in my meals I buy low or no salt added canned veggies and buy produce from Walmart or Kroger if it is on sale. I buy frozen fish, boneless skinless chicken breasts and frozen veggies. I have been eating like a pig these past few days but you have to find that motivation to get back on track. Everybody falls off sometimes no one is perfect you have to remind yourself of that. I bought a 3 pack of cheap sports bras from walmart and just double them up when I work out and it is working so far lol. Keep getting motivation from your MFP family and tell yourself you are worth it! I started this journey at 194lbs and now down to 148lbs so I know how hard and frustrating it is. NEVER GIVE UP ON YOURSELF, YOU ARE WORTH IT!!0

I'm sorry to be so blunt and here is some tough love.
Pull up your big girl panties and deal with it. Don't make excuses for what you are not ready for. Not affording something is just an excuse, and I am living proof. I couldn't afford to get healthy 13 years ago when I was over 215 & couldn't work due to 3 disabling car accidents in the span of 6 months. But then something happened that I couldn't avoid without endangering my health: I was diagnosed with Celiac's Diseas, a gluten allergy. Basically all that food you're saying is all you could afford was what I could no longer eat as it was literally destroying my digestive system. I HAD to figure out a way to afford to eat food that wouldn't kill me. A bag of lettuce, a container of cherry tomatoes, a bag of baby carrots & some frozen fish filets or chicken was actually the same price as the salty, wheated junk that I thought was all I could afford. And just in case you think this was easy for me, it wasn't. I also have manic depression, guess what, I found eating better & exercising made me FEEL BETTER! Like someone else mentioned, crunches, leg lifts, side-bends, lunges, dips, squats are free in your living room. Get a set of 5lb dumbbells for 10 bucks at Goodwill or Walmart or whatever discount or closeout stores are around you. That's all I had at first & after 30 days I couldn't think of turning back.
You slip up once is not a reason to give up unless deep down inside you truly want to be unhealthy and have multiple health risks. You think you can't afford anything right now, just wait until you start having to go to doctors & specialists and emergency rooms for all the health issues you're setting yourself up for, not to mention continually buying new bigger clothes to fit your expanding depressive waisted away line.
Print this and post it as your reminder if you truly want a healthy lifestyle. Feel free to see what I overcame by reading my profile. Nothing worth it in this world comes easy. Nothing. We all work for what we want, and want for what we work for.0 -

DON"T GIVE UP!! Drink more water and eat more lean protein. You have to detox yourself from the junk that's making you binge and crave more junk! You CAN do this. So you had 2 bad days. If you get right back on track you can get to your goal in a few short months of following the program. Start again today. Log everything. Stay within your calorie range. At the end of the day, when MFP tells you what you will weigh in 5 weeks write that on the calendar. Stick to this for 5 weeks. Promise yourself 5 weeks. In 5 weeks you will find yourself to be very close if not below that magic number. What can be more encouraging than that! Even if you don't eat right and exercise perfectly every single day you will move toward that magic number!
Edited to include a few thoughts on the costs.
Walking and push ups are free. And, if you log everything and try to stay within your protein, carb, fat, etc limits WHAT you eat is not as important as HOW MUCH you eat. A carton of eggs is cheap and the protein of 1 egg will keep you from feeling hungry for hours....same with beans. Just try to keep your sodium in check. Sodium could make you retain water and not see results as quickly. That's my experience anyway.0 -
Do not think about the words Thin or Fit. It seems you have to find that emotion that makes you loose it. When in urge to eat find an escape hobby. Commit with yourself, to go around the block every time you have the urge, or go up and down the stairs for 10 minutes, or leg lifts. If physical activity is not possible (and should always be the top choice), opt for a 30min recorded sitcom, or a hand held video game (no more than 20 mins, time yourself if you must). Buy a couple of weights 3 pounds or five and do some reps (cheap at Walmart).
The first few times it will be very hard, but do not give up. This is an exercise for replacing addictions that do not benefit you for the gratifying ones. You will feel better at the end of the day when you have succeeded and will have additional entries for your workout logs.
For exercise ideas the Net is filled with them google Scooby personal trainer, he has some of the most effective workouts, start with one and then two. Listen to your body. Do this for your health, not to be thin or skinny, those two words are full of sickness.
Love yourself, for no one else will love you like you can and breathe. It is ok and it is getting better!0 -
There is a book called The Prison Workout, I think, or something like that. It's how to stay in shape with nothing but 4 walls and no other equipment. I've heard it is really good. I doubt if there is anything in there that is new, but if you don't know what to do, I would imagine there are some great exercise techniques where you don't need equipment. There is a lot of stuff on YouTube too. I mean, just do 20 Burpees a day to start. Work up to 50 or something.0
-
I don't think you really want to give up because you wouldn't have posted it on here. Being on a weight loss journey is just that, a journey. It took me 4 weeks to finally decide to get back on the wagon as I was doing the same thing you are now. I say make a decision to either stick it out or eat bad! Both will give you results, one will just be the one you want and one will not! Best on luck on your journey!0
-
Okay, you have to allow yourself to be human and have human failings. Two days is not much in the scheme of things. This quest should not be short term; this should be a life change. You are changing your life style to be more healthy and it will take time to adjust; it will not happen over night and you will have set backs. Just pick yourself up, dust yourself off and move on. Resolve to do better at the next meal or the next day...move on. Don't give up!! You CAN do this!0
-
You've faltered, now get back up and fight! You can do it. I am, only took 25 years0
-
I agree that you don't NEED a gym membership. Or even weights for that matter! I have been working out to the Biggest Loser Workout game on my Kinect. I have the settings set to "No Equipment". I have not used a dumbbell or an exercise ball or an exercise machine and I am down almost 23 lbs and 8 inches just off of my waist (I started my journey before I joined MFP). Now I am not suggesting you go out and spend $400 on an Xbox with Kinect - my point is that you can find several exercises that use your own body weight for resistance. Walking and even dancing around your home are great for cardio!
As for food, plan your meals in advance and set a budget for your shopping. You may not be able to change everything in your kitchen, but start out with a few changes. You'll be surprised at the results.
And for the record, I am not made of money. I am a single-mom, work full-time, and I live paycheck-to-paycheck. I don't have the money for a gym membership or a lot of extras, but I make sure I buy healthy whenever I can. Good luck - you can do this!
Feel free to add me if you'd like.0 -

If you can't afford an expensive bra wear two cheap ones- it really works- that what I do. You don't have to be able to afford a gym- fast walking or jogging or running is very effective. Keep at it. It will be worth it.0

Well it doesn't do it to me. It's actually been my best friend because the carbonation is super-filling, with zero calories. Chugging diet carbonated drinks all day has always helped me drop massive amounts of weight. I once lost 20 lbs in 3 weeks like that.
It could only be the caffeine/sweetener that cause aftereffects, so even sparkling water should do the same trick if caffeine or artificial sweetener gives you hunger pangs.
Everybody's different. I offer what works for me.0
