What exactly constitutes as crap OP? I'd consider some items on your diary crap. If my food diary ever consists of items such as "meal replacement" please shoot me, I like my food to be food!

Anything you are eating that I am not eating? It's wrong.

Just looked at the OP's food log and there was a burrito for breakfast and meal replacement shakes all over the shop, in my eyes those things are 'crap' so maybe it's just personal opinion and therefore best kept to yourself??

Yet she didn't point out how his health indicators improved. He's healthier eating "junk food" than what he was being over weight.

healthy life style change? So someone who is obese should just eat green vegetables and lean cuts of protein. like this will really work. you have to build up to it, doing a 180 with your diet will lead to failure, always does.

A bit extreme, some people are able to make whole hog changes and stick with it (usually takes a tramatic event like diabetes or a heart attack but even without that it does happen).

There is merit to eating healthy food beyond simply being easier to hit your calorie goal. Having a balanced diet generally means eating mostly healthy food but also accepting treats in moderation and not being so stuck up about it.

    So you're proud?

The fact that you can still lose weight eating mostly crap food doesn't prove that it's okay. It just proves that you were able to stay at a calorie deficit eating mostly crap. A guy ate nothing but twinkies and lost weight. It's doable.

But for optimal physical, mental, etc health & a positive lifestyle change? No.

    Case in point

Weight loss for most people who are overweight causes improvement with health indicators. Obviously eating LESS junk will be better for your body than eating MORE junk. It's not that the twinkies themselves improved his health indicators.

& I'm definitely not saying eat nothing but greens and lean cuts for the rest of your life. Maybe the OP feels that way but I don't. I'm talking about what your DEFAULT behaviors are. If you wake up in the morning and automatically think "for breakfast today I want a few donuts" or its your lunch break and you think "I think I'll have a burger & fries for the 5th day in a row" then thats a problem, clearly. Theres absolutely nothing wrong with a mostly healthy diet (50%+ of your regular intake at least), with "treats" here and there. I try to keep my ratio of healthy foods at 80%. For example, my breakfasts are usually a bowl of oatmeal with soymilk, and almonds or peanuts, my dinners are usually spinach or romaine with some type of lean meat and maybe a little brown rice or potato with skin. But for lunch I often have a classic Chick-Fil-A sandwich, which is a fried chicken filet on a white bun. It's filling and its not AS bad as other things I could have. I'm not guilty after eating it either, I recognize that its not perfectly healthy but I like knowing I can have a little of something unhealthy and manage it, instead of going all out and getting the sandwich, AND fries, AND shake, AND brownie.

Having said that, I would NOT eat two donuts for breakfast, then the sandwich for lunch, then have a cheeseburger for dinner. Even if I did that and stayed below my calories for the day, I'd still feel gross, and physically my body would hate me for all the refined sugar & saturated fat.

You can't argue that a healthy diet doesn't make one more energetic and less at risk for heart or digestive issues, than a purely unhealthy diet of the same calorie allowance. It's irrefutable.

I have lost 100+ pounds eating "crap" I did not give up any foods that i won't be giving up forever. I have learned to it in moderation and even found foods good for me that I enjoy. I look at labels and plan my meals a bit more than before. Maybe in a few years my eating will get better but as long as I am getting healthier and my Dr. Is good with my results then I'll continue. thanks for you poor feedback and encouragement. You do what works for you and I will do what works for me.
