I'm called Gangi. My mom (the great grandmom) is called Mummut.

Gangi is from the best TV show ever...Arrested Development. The Grandmother (Gangi) was a boozey lady who was self-absorbed, plastic surgery addicted...and just awful. That's me!

We are a very diverse family.

    Anishinaabe: Kookum
    Cree: Nookum
    English: Grandma
    Icelandic: Amma

My neice also has a great grandmother that she calls Nana.
My father is her Mooshom. My step-father is her Afi.

She actually doesn't have any that she calls Grandpa. Weird that I just realized that?
  • My daughter calls my mother "Grammie," and she calls her father's mother and her stepmother's mother "Grammie [first name]." She calls my bf's mother "Bammy," because that's what her other grandchildren have always called her.

I called both of my grandmothers "Grandma" and my great-grandmother was referred to as "Nana." My great-grandmother was from Italy and didn't speak much English, so that's why she got the Italian version. We weren't very creative.

I always called all of my grandparents grandma or grandpa.

    However to my daughter:
    My mom is Nana
    Her dad's mom is Grammy
    My dad's mom is Grandma
My mom's mom is Mom Mom (this is what she started calling her on her own as a toddler, we now all call her this)
    Her Step-grandma is Nana
    Her dad's grandma is Mamaw

Her half-sister calls her grandma (Yaya)

Ours are just Grandma and then their first name to differentiate as my mom and step mom have the same last name, but my nephew calls my mom G-momma as she's pretty young for a Grandma.
  • Siti, and Seedi.

My paternal grandmother was Granny, my maternal grandmother was Noni. My mother is Noni, my mother-in-law is mam-mam.

Not that you asked but my Paternal Grandfather was Papa, my Dad is Pappa Al and my father-in-law is Pappy.

My paternal grandfather passed before my Mother or Aunt had children.

    Old one.

    ...

I'm lying. Two are called Grandma.
    One is Oma.
One is Yoda (this is what I call her. She has no idea what it means but she doesn't mind).

I HAD four grandmas. Yay for divorced and remarried parents.
  • Thanks for all the responses, and quite a few laughs!!

Moms side used the French names - Memere & Pepere (pronounced Memmay and Peppay) and Dads side was Gramma and Grandpa...now that I am one, I am Memere to continue that tradition :)

My mom's mom was called Gammy, because it's close enough to Granny and Grandma without actually being either word.

My kids call my Mom "Gwamma", because they couldn't say their R's for a while and it just stuck. My half-brother's grandma was called Granna. But my favorite is actually what my kids call my Dad... "Papa Cowboy" or "PC" for short, because my parents live on a ranch, have horses and cows, and ride horses. My daughter called him that and it stuck. Its so funny.
