My mom is called Nanny, her mom was grandmama, her mom was called bigmama (she was a very small person not sure where that name came from) Then her dad's mom was mama Dollie, Dollie was her name. On my fathers side it was grandma and pawpaw. I think I like memaw. No grand kids yet. :D Just 3 grand dogs. One of which comes for his nightly visits. Our daughter lives below us.

I know others called Grammy, Gammy, and one of my dearest friends is called Lolly by her grandson (he calls her husband Pop, so they are lolly and pop, so darn cute)

I have a Grandma, a Memère (French), and a Mimi (short for Memère, but when I was a kid I couldn't pronounce it and started calling her that)!
  • My grandma's were called:
    + Momo
+ Grandma - We called her Grandma in person, but she lived in another state, so when we talked about her, we called her "Grandma who lives in *State*" which I now think is very odd.
+ Grandma *First Name* (was second wife of one grandpa)
+ Granny "First Name" (was second wife of other grandpa)

    My parents called their grandma's:
    + Dear Mama
    + Gran'ma
    + Grandmother

    My mom is called:
    + Nana

    In other families I've heard:
    + Gammy
    + Lama
  • My kids call the grandma's on the father's side "Grammy (last name)" and on my side they call her "Nana"

My grandmothers are grandma and nannie. Nannie passed away last year, but she got her name from the first grandchild who tried to say Granny, but it came out Nannie.

Big Granny and Little Granny. I always thought because Big Granny was about 5'8 whilst Little Granny was about 5'1. My mother says it was cos Big Granny was fat whereas Little Granny wasn't. Charming!

My grandma that lived far away was just Grandma. My grandma that lived close to us was "Grams". My great grandmas were Grandma *last name* and Grandma-ma.

My kids have Baba and Nana and the great grandma from their dad's side was Nannie. Their grandpas are Pappy and Grandpa (or Grampy)

I just found out I am going to be a grandma. This baby will have alot of grandmas and great grandmas. I want to go by something else, so it won't be so confusing. What have you heard grandmas called?

We stick with the word grandma, then add their name to specify which one.
  • Mine were Mamaw (last name) on dads side and Grandma on moms side
my mom is mamaw or maw for some of the kids, hubbys mom was Grammy and his step mom is meme
I want to be G-mama i think lol

My mom's mom was Grandma Jean (Jean was her nickname/she made it her middle name at 18).
My dad's mom was Grammy (I think my older cousins started it).
My mom's (former) stepmom is Nana Wez (everyone else calls her Grandma Wez but tried to get me to call her Nana so I wouldn't be confused. I added the Wez myself lol).

You can come up with something or let them come up with it.
