I'm from a asian Indian background, but born and bred in South London. My Grandmothers were called Bai, and Granny (I am part English, she was the English part).
My kids have always called me by my name Kap - it was not trying to be a trendy, I just did not care if I was called daddy or my name, however I like the distinctiveness of it from other dads, so when (IF) I become a grandparent (My kids are 25 and 22 single) I have made up a name
Kappappa (Cup puppa), although I suspect my daughter will just get them to call me "The miserable old git"0 -
Nanny for my mom, Nana for my mother in law
We're Mi'kmaq, and grandmother is kiju (sounds like gi-jew)0 -
ABUELA. I'm Hispanic. The kids Call my mother in-law Nana. And my hubbys grandma MEMA. He is from the south.0

My children have a Nana, Nannie, Mamaw, and Meemaw.0

I'm Nanna ..........two n's...................... following my Mum & sisters choice
my sister was also known as Nanna Penny ( after her dog Penny)
& when my mum became a great grandmother she was known as Nanna Wales ( she lived in Wales) & Nanna Dinosaur ( she also lived near the play park which had model dinosaurs..& she was very old...lol )
My mother in law is Nannie
My own Grandmother was Granny
My other sister is Grandma
I like being Nanna is quite young sounding .. but I rarely get called "Mum" any more which is something I hadnt thought about at the time...:happy:0 -
ive got a nana and a meemaw0

I am Nana. My kids wanted to call my husband by his Croatian name, but DeDe is too close to my first name, so he is GranBob or Papa, whichever they can pronounce. Mostly Papa.
My daughter's father and step-mom are Grandpa and Grandma0 -
Nanny/Nan - We are a British family waaay back. But I used to call my closest grandma on my dad's side "grandy".0

I haven't read through all the posts so I apologize if it's already been suggested.
Granna
Mama and then add your first name to it.
If your name begins with a G, you could be GG for Grandma Glenda for example.
Mimi (Meme)0 -
In my family it depends. Here are the ones that various nieces and nephew call their repsective grandparents:
Grandma
Nana
MeMe
Marme0 -
We call my Mom's mom, grandma (although we used to call her mamaw). We call my mom's mom's mom (my great-grandma) Granny and my kids call my mom Mamaw.0

In my family we have a Nana, Gran,. Gigi and Grama0

My grand angels call me "Boo"...from the movie Monster's Inc. I actually had a contest at work - and let everyone put a name in the hat....and drew one. "Boo" came out and I love it. Of course, I had to lay down some rules - my co-workers are police officers - and some thought they were very clever ;-)
I had a Mimi, GeeGee, Mammaw.0 -
I like the rule that the oldest child gets to name the grandparents. My oldest named my mom Adah instead of nana and we encouraged that so both of my kids call her that now
My grandparents were just grandpa and grandma with last names to differentiate.0 -
My grandparents were Grandma and Grandpa plus their last name (i.e. Grandma Smith), but we wanted something more fun and multicultural with my son so we decided on:
Babcia - Polish
Oma - German
The grandpas are:
Cedo - Arabic
Opa - German
Pepere - French (great Grandpa)0 -
My mom is Mamaw, my husband's mom is Oma (they're German). Congrats to you and your family on the little one0
-
Nana and Bubba0

French side- Mim and Pip. My grandson calls me GG. My daughter says it stands for gorgeous grandma.0

1. My father's mother was "Grandma"
2. My mother's mother was "Mamma" (derived from Mum calling her mother "Mummy"
3. My children called both Grandmothers "Grandma" since they lived 150 miles apart and rarely met after the wedding.
4. Our grandchildren call my wife "Grannie" and their other grandmother is "Grandma" (partially because that is what her other grandchildren call her - and because she is a geriatric spoilt brat - who, hopefully, isn't registered on MFP)
My nephews called my mother "Mimi" after the eldest heard my sister calling her "Mummy" - when she told us she would be known as "Mimi" I offered her a rose to hold in her teeth - cause one helluva row. (but no way were my kids calling her "Mimi")0 -
My MIL refused to be Nanna or Nanny as she said "I'm not a goat!"
So she is Grandma and she is married to Grandad.
My parents had divorced when I was younger so my mum was Nanny/Nanna
My Dad is GrandadDavid - said as one word no pause although for a long time it was pronounced gandadvid
his wife is NannySue - but she was that already to her own grandkids.
I keep threatening to call her WoSM - pronounced as WIZ-OM -= Wicked old step mother since she married my dad but we get on really well!
We have invented a name for some of the family as we have a few Great aunts so they are refered to as Granties and Gruncles
But then my daughter goes through stages even now of calling me Mummy or Mama - I won't let her call me just Mum yet
it makes me feel old and she is only 5!0 -
I am an expectant grandmother too - first one :-)
I had a Nana and a Granma Paull (who was actually my Great-grandma). My kids call my mum Nana, my dad Grandad and their paternal grandmother was Granny, grandfather was Papa.
I think I might like to be Granny, or maybe Nanny - but I guess it depends what other grandma would like to be called, and what the baby will call us when it is old enough? Will be living on the other side of Australia so it's going to be tough - I see lots of flights in my future!!0 -
Grandparents:
MeMe (pronounced me me) and PaPa (pronounced pa pa)
Oma and Opa (from the German side of the family)
Great Grandparents:
Granny Annie and Daddy Robert (everyone calls them this regardless of relation)0 -
my granddaughter started calling me memaw and I love it0
-
Congratulations on being a Grandparent. My kids call my mom Nanny.0
