Welcome val, I like how this group is laid back, there are no weigh-ins, just jot down what you want, its nice!
Trish, all our Idaho Haystack are, is chili (homemade is better) atop some tortilla chips, then atop that load it with lettuce, tomato and onion, then if you prefer, some cheese, salsa and sour cream, really I make it for the ease, and the kids like eating the chips with the chili with their hands.
I've heard them called other things, but here in Idaho, even on the kids school menu, they call them Idaho Haystacks.0 -
We call that taco salad here! LOL
We always make our own chili. It just tastes better (although Stagg brand is pretty awesome, but completely unhealthy)0 -
Welcome Val!
It sounds like taco salad to me too Dolphin! LOL
My run was awesome!! It was soooo beautiful! sunny and 60 degrees! Off to start dinner.0 -
Okay Nicole--pipe some of that sun & warmth here! I was so happy I didn't have to turn on my heated seat today in the suburban as I ran errands. It was sunshiny but not warm(still snow on the ground).
Val--glad you can join us! It is fun group--come when you can.
I had a good day here. Stayed within 150 calories of my limit so good there. Need to drink another glass of water before bed. Tomorrow hubby is home--wonder what we are doing tomorrow--could be anything. I am voting for buying a toilet & some paint! HEE HEE but we will see.

ok, my individual meatloafs turned out great! We are so full though! I snarfed down all of mine...I am waddling! I still had 500 cals to spare! Does anyone want them?
Kim- I am sprinkling some warm sunshine on your area for tomorrow!:flowerforyou:0 -
hi girls! welcome val! nice to hear from you katie and dolphin!
idk--idaho haystacks, taco salad---all sound good to me! not to mention the mini meatloafs!
school mtg was great! i learned more about how they structure it from a philosophy and actual mechanics. got more details on tuition and their assessment system. i think having her there would take so much of the pressure off of us to teach her EVERYTHING. instead, they individualize it and move at her pace and change the teaching style as needed to match her learning needs. and it's not just pie in the sky--i saw their scottsdale location and the mother school has been in tampa for 40yrs now.
also, their goal is to have the students be able to LEAVE their school and return to their regular school setting. that is Success to them! (and to go on to post-high school ed of some sort). just lots of good info--and helps ease my anxiety about her education.
so, thanks, nicole for the kind words.
did ok food wise today but still no exercise. the kids and their stuff just took up too much time. so off to bed so i can get up early to do the workout b4 they wake up!0 -
It was a late night for me....but at least I got my workout in! I'm really excited about this site, it should really give me the extra motivation I need to stay on task.
I too would call those taco salads. :P But now you've given me a craving and I may just have to make those myself this week.
Nicole- I live in a sunny area as well. It was gorgeous out! My daughter and two dogs played in the yard while I read a book. (Kiddo number 2 was napping) It was very relaxing which I definitely needed. I had the in-laws staying with us last week for about 6 days. They're great but it was nice to have my house back.
Off to bed!0 -
GM Ladies!
Val- I live in Oregon, and this time of year it's usually not that sunny, but I think it's supposed to be all week! YAY! My brother lives outside of Phoenix, so I hear ya about the sunny weather!
Nicole sings, "Oh plateau, you are a pain in the rump, and I am gonna leave you behind!" Off to have some breakfast and drink some water.0 -
GM girls, I have a joke to start your day off
"What do you give a 900 pound gorilla for his birthday?"
(this is the part where you say "I dunno. What?")
"I dunno either, but you better hope he likes it!!"
ROFL. That was on Sid The Science Kid yesterday morning, and I thought it was pretty funny.
So I've decided to stop the daily weigh ins on the house scale and only weigh in on my wii board. It will be a challenge not to obsessively compare the two, but I think it will be better for my psyche and help me move past this road block. Hubby thinks I am stuck b/c I am stressing out too much about it. And last night at a presidency meeting for primary, a spiritual thought was given, and I felt like it was meant just for me. I really needed to hear it. The gist of it was "Your best is good enough." I almost started crying. It really got to me. It's hard to remember that sometimes.
Oh, and hubby put that 5 lbs back on that he lost. He lost it b/c he had some stomach problems over the weekend, but I guess his body regulated itself. I feel a little sorry for him, but no guilt in saying I feel a little better about myself.
Stir fry for dinner tonight, my fave! Will also probably be getting Dave's first bath today if the weather is going to be good the rest of the week. Should be entertaining to see Grace's reaction to the car wash.0 -
Nicole--It WORKED. The sun is shining & it will almost hit 40 today--YIPEE!
Trish--I know how hard it is not to weigh in everyday--I can't make myself do it. You go girl we are all with you! Cute joke. HA!
Val--I am jealous of your sunshine too--send it to MO!
Not sure how today is gonna go with hubby home. I am off to primer some spots that we missed earlier.
Have a great day!
Kim0 -
GM everyone. It is hard for me as well not to weight everyday, but I think I shouldn't because then I just obsess over the 2 lbs. up the 2 lbs. down. I am going to try and weigh once a week.
Weatherman says 50º today but I seen on sun, it looks dreary here, was thinking of washing the car also, will have to see.
I think some yoga on the Wii today, and if I feel up to it 20-30 min. on the Elliptical.
Goal for today drink 2 liters of water, I bought a bottle of Fiji water at the store yesterday, it is 1 liter, which equals roughly 33 oz, I am going to try and drink 2 of these, I think I may have been way under on my water daily without realizing it, I think using a bottle will be easier to keep track, rather than just a glass from the kitchen.
Enjoy your day!0 -
Do any of you ladies know how to post pictures in a thread? I have no clue how to do it.0
-
Yeah, I just try to weigh myself once a week. My dad's a doctor and he said that your weight should fluctuate up and down frequently, that this is normal. So I just try to track trends in my weight each month. I'm not so worried about weight so much as how I look. When I was in swimming I looked my best during swim season, but weighed about 5-10 pounds more due to the muscle. Go Figure. I just want to be able to look into the mirror and think, "Man, I look good! Wait till the Hubby gets a load of this!"
After two kiddos and hurting my back I'm not to that point yet, but there's plenty of time!
Making Lasagne tonight, but after everyone's discussion of taco salad/idaho haystacks I think I'll have to make those this weekend!
My dad is coming to watch the kiddos and likes to take me out to eat. Fun, but I'll have to flex my will power to not over eat.
Have a great day!0 -
val, it's a good idea to choose a restaurant in advance, find their nutritional guide online, and choose what you're going to eat. Then you can plan the rest of your meals around it accordingly, and not go over on anything. Works for me every time.
Nicole, you should be able to post pictures by going:

minus the spaces, of course. I've posted pictures in a thread once, but haven't been able to repeat the accomplishment since.0 -
still NO exercise--lazy bum that i am!!
BUT have rearranged furntiture in dd's room. and vacuumed and moved more stuff in playroom. sooo that must count for something.! hehe
off to drink more water and make lunch for munchkins. hope you all are having a productive day!0 -

val--i second trish!
also, have you read dara torres' autobiography? it's really good! espec since you're a swimmer you can appreciate the work that went into training for her last olympics. i'd give it 4.5 stars!0 -
Hello ladies. Its beena a while since I have been on. Last night I took care of my friends kids while she had her D&C. The red cross got her hubby home from Iraq to be with her, although he flying back on Saturday to the desert on Saturday. I feel 10 years older after caring for 4 kids yesterday, sad isn't it, how such little beings can wear out a 29 year old woman.
My dilemma will happen next week with my hubby is taking leave. I hate working out in front of him, but fear that if I don't I will end up taking a week off and getting off track. Silly how I feel somewhat self conscious in front of the man who sees me naked and watched me give birth twice. Ladies just tell me to get over it and get my butt into gear next week.
I'll check in a little later time to get AJ off to school.0 -
cv, make him work out with you! I hate having people watch me work out, too. Yet I go to the gym 3 days a week. What's the difference? At the gym, everybody's there to work... not sum up the other guy. I feel less conscious knowing that we're all there to work together. Try it0
-
cv, I hate working out in front of my hubby also, so when he's around we do other stuff, bike rides with the kids, snowboarding, something else to burn the calories, plus spending the time together, or I get up before he does that works.
I feel your exhaustion, I have 5 kids and somedays I just drag, gets a bit easier as they get older, but then there is a whole new set of obstacles with the pre-teens. lol
Tonight for dinner some bbq chicken under the broiler, baked sweet potato and a salad, trying to stay under my cals for the day.
Got someone coming to do an inspection on our crawlspace, we think we may have some standing water down there, we wake up everyday to tons of condensation on our windows, not good, hoping this will not cost us a lot to fix, as we wanted to start tearing out carpet and putting down hardwood floors, besides the carpet being stained and ready to go, not good for kids with asthma or allergies. We had to replace the drain field to our septic 3 years ago because of water issues, high water table in our area, I have a feeling this will be the same issue, basically whoever wrote off that our sub could be built in this location messed up. Anyways wish us luck, hope there is no damage down there.0 -
good luck with the crawlspace, dolphin. I know what it's like dealing with problematic house issues *glares at her 1973 leaky "love nest" of a mobile home*
Dragged my lazy butt to the rec center to battle my mortal enemy-- THE TREADMILL! I did most of the running intervals, and made it past 16 min again today, but pooped out at 19. It's an improvement, and I'll take it! I walked the last 3 intervals of C25K, but did run rest.
Thinking about re-evaluating the time line of my running goals, and maybe just take them as I'm ready for them. My #1 goal right now is getting 65 lbs off of my body by my 28th bday in September. Running is just my mode of transportation to that goal right now.0 -
Dolphin- Eek to the house problems! We just got a great deal on our house and moved in a few months ago, but we already found a mild case of termites we had to treat, none of the lightbulbs worked (and they are all different!) the spa needs to be fixed, and several of the faucets were pouring water when you ran the water. So you are in my prayers as you figure out what's going on!
Trish- I read an interesting study that said that women who only worked out 20 minutes a day but varied their pace as they worked out burned more fat and calories than those who ran for 40 minutes but maintained the same pace. They also noted more of the fat was burned off their butt and thighs. (Hooray for that idea!) So you might want to try running fast for a minute, then a moderate pace for a minute, etc. This supposedly helps you burn more fat. I'm trying that on my elliptical machine.
What is everyone's favorite quick and easy recipe for dinner? I'm trying to add to my collection of dinners that don't take hours to prepare (Unless it's a slowcooker, than I don't mind!)
Thanks!
Valerie0 -
Val, I've been doing C25K (couch to 5k) which is largely interval training. I've been hallucinating that my thighs (especially up near my knees) are getting skinnier. I just wish it would burn fat off my gut which is where the majority of my fat is.
My favorite easy dinner recipes include Stir Fry (dinner tonight!), chili, taco salad, hamburger helper, and homemade pizza. If you're interested in any of those recipes, lmk.0 -
Dolphin- Good luck with the house!
Val- Let me think up some of my easy recipes, right now I am drawing a blank.
ok, so I went for my long run today since I won't be able to run over the weekend. Drum roll please.....I did 10 miles! YAY!!! I haven't run 10 miles in 2 years...It felt so good to do it! I know you were all with me in spirit! I ran past all of the people mowing their lawns and washing their cars, and I kept thinking, gee I shoudl be mowing ours! That's a pretty big undertaking though, it does need done!
Dinner is baked chicken again....I think I need to start branching out here!0 -
Meh, make the man mow the lawn. Lawn mowing is on the man list of chores, lol. Run those britches off, Nicole! Wooot! Way to go!!0
-
wow nicole!! that's AWESOME! i couldn't reasonably WALK 10 mi much less run 'em. great great great job!
and i ditto trish--men do the lawn and trim bushes etc. (women clean toilets--fair trade imo)
val--i tell my dh to just go away when i'm working out. somehow he thinks that's a grand time to talk to me. nutball. and when i'm doing p90x he corrects me--so i HIYAH him and send him somewhere else!
just be proud you're moving and keep it up!
dolphin--good luck with the house.
trish--wtg on the improvements! running 19 min is wonderful!!
i know i didn't catch eveyrone--but i think abt you girls--espec when i drink my water! hehe
time to make dinner.
oh go to dinners--hamburgers, eggs, turkey burgers, tacos, quesadillas, mashed beans and veges, meatloaf, "fried" chkn, mashed pot (from a box), tator tots, carrots and dip, pre washed salad, frozen veges, sloppy joes
yes--we consume too much red meat. not dealing with that rt now.
and we don't eat fish or seafood.
go to bhg.com for more fast ideas (recipes are do-able) and familyfun.go.com for flavors that kids are more apt to go for

Michelle, try downloading Malware Bytes. We use it on our computers and it can often pick up critters that McAffee and other virus programs miss.0

Good morning!
I measured myself this morning just like I did at the beginning of Jan. & Feb. My measurements were the same both of those days, but today, my waist was the same, but I've lost half an inch in my hips! It's not much, but it's in the right direction! I was sure I had lost a little in my waist because my pants are fitting just a wee bit better. Not much, but better.
I took my daughter in for her 6 year check-up (I still can't believe she's 6! :noway: ) We've been referred to an audiologist. She failed their hearing test. She failed it almost a year ago on a follow-up visit after a bad ear infection. Her ear drums had ruptured twice. We were referred then too, but they said that soon after the ear infection, it could be a temporary loss and she could be fine after her ear drums completely heal. She seemed to be hearing just fine this summer, but since school started we've noticed she's not hearing as well as she should be. It's not bad, and it's not affecting her school work, but at this point, it's time to get it checked. The pediatrician's thought is it's scar tissue.
My goals today are to drink 5 cups of water today and walk to pick up the kids from school. It's beautiful here today0 -
Good morning everyone! House issue is not as bad as we had thought, there is no standing water, and no mold, yeah! It is too damp down there though, so he suggested rain gutters to move the water outside better and to move the sprinklers away from the house by 2 feet, so we have lots of outside work to do when the ground thaws, hopefully we can correct the problem this spring.
I did Wii yesterday, yoga, strength training and boxing, love the boxing, and I'm sore today, I have a Cathe video kick boxing which is lots of fun, I think this is my new fave exercise to do. And I drank almost 2 liters of water yesterday, went pee all day long, but I think it was great for my body.
Amy I wish you luck with your daughter, they do grow up fast, all my kids bdays are this spring, April, May and June, my youngest will be 3, so close to being out of diapers. Yah. I take any loss even if its .2 lbs as going in the right direction. Don't you love it when the pants fit looser, I love that feeling.
Catch you all later today!0 -
Amy, losing inches is great! Way to go!
Dolphin, so glad nothing horrible is going on with the house. Sounds like reasonably easy fixes.
This morning I got up, did my business, and weighed in on wii. IT IS MOVING DOWNWARDS! It said 216.5, which means the house scale should say 217.5. This makes me very happy. I'm on a group that weighs in on Fridays, but I usually weigh in on Saturday. For whatever reason, I just get better numbers that day. I definitely feel a ton of stress gone now that I'm not weighing obsessively. I think it's helping.
Grace started sneezing snot rockets out of the blue yesterday. Had to have been from nursery on Sunday, because she hasn't been around little people otherwise. Don't know where else she would have gotten it from. She was just sick 3 weeks ago. *Sigh*.
Yesterday I came home from dropping friend Jazz off after we finished working, and Dave's driver door would not open from inside. Erm. Not good. When Jazz comes over today, I will take Dave in to get it fixed, while Grace naps. Mechanic said it should only take 45 mins or so. Looks like I'll be doing my Wii BL workout this morning instead of in the afternoon. Looks really easy today. Bright side: I'll get to check out car accessories for Dave while I wait, and I won't have to worry about keeping Grace entertained, or having her out in public while sick.0
