Like most say, i don't blame the food. I do blame me, but i also forgive me. I had no idea convenience food was bad....no one educated me about how to eat....so in essence, I guess if i have to blame anything/anyone, i blame consumerist society who puts fast food at every corner and is okay with having crap lunches in schools and doesn't make it important to teach our kids how to be healthy. I also blame my emotions, who lied to me and told me life was hard because i "emoted" and comforted myself with food. I blame salt and fat, as flavor enhancers, they really told my taste buds "whoopee, have more of me!" and of course, honorable mentions to my fave foods as well: cheese, butter, sour cream, mayo and salt. Oh also, healthier foods that i overate, like nuts and dried fruit. Ahh and the caloric beverages...Starbucks accounted for a good 40 lbs of weight. Yep, it was all me, but there were definitely contributing factors LOL

Never one food for me either. I love the Chocolate Turtles and Necco Peach Blossoms candy though. I just ate too big portions of the rest of my food and blamed the sweets.

Chocolate and LOTS of carbs (comfort food to feed my emotional eating)

It's me and my relationship with my comfort foods that's to blame. My comfort/reward foods have always been M&Ms, choc chip cookies, french fries, and nutritionally devoid carbs.
  • My mindless picking....not necessarily always "fattening" stuff but mindless just a bite here and there. I vow to stop doing that and only eat at predetermined intervals. PERIOD!

    1. not moving
    2. more pizza
  • I honestly don't think there was any one thing, because I used to eat so badly, but soft drinks were probably the biggest downfall for me. I would drink several cans a day and it really added up. Just switching to Diet Coke helped me to lose a lot of weight, but I felt a lot better eliminating it completely.
  • None to be honest. I just use to eat too much of everything lol,

Same here. I blame my lack of willpower more than anything. Even now, I won't deny myself any particular food just because it could be labeled by some as "bad." Heck, yesterday, I had an 8oz serving of soda, homemade chocolate chip cookies (made with wheat flour and sugar in the raw!) and even homemade fudge! And guess what? My scales only had me up about a pound and a half this morning. Since I drank so little water yesterday, I'm sure I know what that 1.5 is! :)

I'm pretty sure it was baby carrots. I ate a solid amount of baby carrots when I was gaining weight.

I blame myself for being uninformed, and having no self control around fried food.

I don't blame the food. I blame the one that didn't have the discipline to stay away from said food (me).
  • Soda, over-eating of chocolate. Now everything has to be diet and under 150 calories LOL.

It was NOT a specific food, it was lack of portion control unfortunately.
  • I definitely still have troubles with willpower. I love food. So much. It is still my go-to thing when I'm feeling down or just bored in general.

I also think it's kind of a psychological thing, too. I'm a college kid and when I'm at my Uncle's (I stay there during the school week) I eat healthy and rarely binge. But when I'm at home, that is the real main problem. I think it's the fact that my mom thinks that chips are the devil, cookies are okay for everyone else to eat except for me, and the fact that she says that they are against my diet makes me want to eat more of the foods that I should definitely limit. So I think I unintentionally eat them to piss her off.
  • Oh, and I worked at a movie theater for four months. Ate nothing but popcorn with extra, extra, EXTRA butter, Mr. Pibb, and would steal candy whenever I worked. My weight shot up from 150 to 170 in four months.

The only thing that really saved me was the fact that I swam all my life. I was still up around 200, but under.... then I hit 200 after I graduated. And then college made me shoot up another 40. haha oops
  • Biscuits and cake!!!!!

No foods to be blamed- just my own self control and education about what is really in the food! :)

Now- I don't shop like I used to. I buy candy- but I buy mini candy bars- and 1 or 2 max is all I will ever have. If I know I am going to eat something unhealthy- like this week invited to a pizza party- I knew it was homeade pizzas and more healthy than take out pizzas- but it was still pizza- and a lot of carbs. So I work it off before I indulge- when I do this- I never gain. May not lose that week- but I don't gain.
  • Pizza, any and all kinds of cheese, chips, fast food, alcohol :(

Why are we blaming the food? I pretty sure its called Will Power. Either you eat it or you don't and if you do limit your quantity.

I know I'm going to start WWIII with this, but....

Blaming food for being fat is like blaming guns for dead people. We have become such a blame-shifting people. Take responsibility for what YOU put in your own mouth. Don't blame a great tasting yet bad for you food. Take responsibility.

If you never do that, you'll never get to the place of freedom to eat what you want and portion control and the place of not allowing food (an inanimate object!) to control you. Take control of your own life.
