Hello MFP world! This topic is in the fun and games section but I'm sincerely curious about what y'all have to say. I love body modification, but outside of the more common piercing and tattoos, I love corset training (though I do it pretty darn recreationally, reducing my natural waist 3 inches or so). I'm considering getting more serious about it as I lose weight - working on a better hour glass figure and I slim down.
Does anyone else out there tight lace or have thought about getting into it?

I know there is some controversy on the topic - as there is around a lot of body mod. and I'd love to hear your opinions too. There is some really interesting research out there about the effects it can have on your body - especially if you become an extremist.

And, if anyone is wondering, I don't do it to fit someone else's ideal body - but because I really love, adore, am floored by the way it makes me look. It makes me feel amazing! We're all here working for our ideal body's right?

I've never tried it. I could see the appeal, I guess. I just work my obliques!

    That is after being "trained".

I'm not entirely sure what the question is. But this is one of my favorite subjects and I'm kind of an authority on corset history. I haven't counted but I currently own ~10 high quality hand made steel boned corsets. All of which are too big for me now, except 1. When I was fat, I was able to cinch down 8" comfortably just because of the squish factor. I'm not a tight lacer and I only wear corsets when dressing up. I don't know how far I'd be able to lace down now, probably the standard 4". Here's a picture of me taken last March, I think my waist is cinched ~3" in this picture, just because of the size of the corset (worn fully closed). Ignore the weird look on my face.

Also the first 3 pictures are from the 30's and do not depict a corset. The 3rd picture is obviously edited.

Not totally - people are also trying to get healthy. I have no issues with body modification as a concept, or wearing corsets - but extreme corsetting is potentially damaging to your health.

And just cause, this is my favorite corset I've ever owned. Custom made by Electra Designs, unfortunately too big for me now. I had it made when I was caring for my mother as she was dying of cancer. I needed something frivolous.

No, I am correct. The pictures are from the 30's and depict a girdle, not a corset. I've gone to school for this, I've done my research. I actually had a very popular website on the history of corsets long before wikipedia was around.

Edited out the photo which doesn't really seem to belong.

    that is gorgeous!

I love corsets and own several (annoyingly all too big now) but have never really delved into the waist reducing side of it. would be interested to see responses here :)

I am talking about the last picture, which you claimed to be edited. I showed you a picture of a similar female.

No, I was talking about the 3rd picture, not the last picture. The last picture is a model named Dita Von Teese, known for her tiny waist.

So is your website no longer available? That would be a shame, as wikipedia is not the be all and end all of information - in fact it's often totally incorrect!

I have several corsets all of which fit me again now - one of which I made myself with proper steel boning and the correct material, I wanted to find out how difficult it was to do. I then got too big for them, but having lost my weight I can fit in them again. I don't do tight lacing, but they are really nice for going out and looking thinner than I actually am!

No, she said the third picture. As in one, two, three. In the 30's pic there are *three* pictures, making the third pic the last pictured frame of the 30's set.

    *facepalm*

Edited to add - we all know miss Dita doesn't need editing anyway.

It is unfortunately defunct. I was able to save most of it, and posted it in parts to a livejournal community I founded (being that it's lj, it's inactive)

I really should stop replying to this thread. But I've literally NEVER had anyone tie me in, I do it myself. I've never had a boyfriend who knew how anyway. Apparently it's too confusing for them.

Before children I had a 36-20-36 waist. I would DEFINITELY like to have it back since that was without a corset and natural for me. Yes, I do plan to corset train when I get to a much lower weight if my waist is still stretched out.

I really don't see the appeal, I like being able to breathe.

Why would anyone do this? Personally I don't like the look. Also I can't imagine walking around all day long in something as uncomfortable as a corset. The boning alone makes me want to cry.

Coming from the depths of the NYC fetish scene, I had an absolute fascination for true corsets (none of that Victoria's Secret/Frederick's of Hollywood crap). I also went to school to study fashion and took corsetry courses.

Depending on an individual's body type, the amount you can cinch down for the casual corset wearer is generally 2-4". I used to go down anywhere from 3-5" depending on the event I was attending and what stretch of training time I was in. I would really tighten down for photoshoots and maybe an 1/2-1" less during parties where I would be dancing and making my rounds at the venue.

P.S. It makes for great breath control during kinkier times ;)

I think corsets are hot, but squishing organs is gross. So, corseting in moderation.

A pair of pants that's slightly too tight gives me horrible cramps. No way, no how.

But then I'm a natural hourglass. And I like my bones and organs in their natural places.

it's something i'd like to get into, but i just don't know where to start. i had a corset from timeless trends (but i got too small for it and gave it away), but it didn't seem like a "serious" corset , i'd just wear it when i was being fancy. it was not incredibly expensive -- that's a lot of it, for me, i don't have the funds to drop several hundred dollars on something custom-made :(

While I do love a beautifully fitting corset like this:

corset recomposition always makes me think of this, which just looks taxing on the body:
