I've had my BIL say to my husband and I: "Better watch out, the direction you're heading in you won't be able to turn around, or keep him" w/ a smile on his face and making large gestures with his hands.

"Oh you used to be so pretty!"...younger cousin, I love her but had to point out to her that her choice of words were cruel,( I was at my highest weight)

"You used to be so fast but now you're slow".....I was playing soccer : (.....Not so0 slow anymore N only getting faster!! :)

"You don't look like a _______ (fill in the blank with any of the following: soccer, basketball, or ice hockey)player"
...all I ever have to say to this one is " Try Me" & it always ends the same, their jaw drops & I'm smiling : D..what can I say even at my heaviest I can play!

I got: "You're pretty cute for a Mexican..bc some Mexicans aren't that cute..but you are" :noway:

    wow... insulting and racist...
I can't count how many guys have approached me and said I was pretty for a black girl. Or I will make an appointment or something where we speak on the phone first and it's always 'you sound white on the phone'. Oh really? I guess I better throw a few more ' you go girls ' into my conversation.

From a huge (read HUGE) woman in a shoe store where I'm trying on shoes...
"Are you only a size 6?"
Me, looking up at the stranger talking to me, smiling politely... "Errr... Yes"
Woman, shaking her head unbelievingly: "There must be something wrong with you! How can a big body like you have such small feet - how do you balance?" (At that stage of my life I was maybe about 18kg overweight...)

I was so utterly shocked, I didn't even have a good comeback for that!

I've had similar encounters with younger family members, but I believe if you're over the age of 10 you should know/learn manners. When my cousin made me feel bad I tried to broaden her perspective and think outside of her own shoes, kids these days are desensitized by media, and other kids, I felt it was my job to step in, and ever since she's been much more considerate and accepting....she's much better company now & has even acted out less in school

I remember a long time ago my car broke down and the driver had to take me and the car to a service station.. He asked what I was studying for and I told him I wanted to be a singer. He looked shocked and told me I wasn't pretty enough to do that for a living.

OMG. Horrible!! I was once told that my singing and songwriting would improve greatly if I lost 25 pounds.

Since this came from a kid, I tried not to be upset about it. But it did hurt.

She was over with her parents one night & saw my wedding picture.

Our conversation went a little like this:

    Her- "Is that you?"
    Me- "yes"
Her- "Wow! I didn't even recognize you!"
    Me - [insert puzzled expression]
Her- "You looked so pretty then!"
Me- Speechless. I guess I'm ugly now? Um. Thank you?

In her defense, she was maybe 12? It hurt though.
kids are ruthless. my baby is 2 1/2, loves finding nemo, came up to me at the jellyfish part and starting pocking my stomach going, "boing, boing, boing"

My ex boyfriend's grandpa told him he "found a good looking heffer"

Now I understand that he may have thought this was a compliment due to country upbringing, but REALLY!?!
AND my ex chose to tell me this story.... Thanks a lot.

That's terrible! Kids can definitely be mean spirited. I once had a little 5 or 6 year old girl say that I had a "big belly" in front of about 15 people (it was at a friend's birthday party). One of the reasons I dislike children nowadays. :frown:

After a really bad break up with my last ex, I was sitting with my mom and SIL just venting....
Me: "I just want my Prince Charming..."
My mom: "Oh honey, Cinderella wasn't fat."

    :noway: :grumble:

She did apologize saying it just popped out but Jesus, really?? At my lowest point...

Not really mean spirited they just tell the truth and have no filter yet. I find it refreshing actually no hidden agenda or fake compliments from kids. They mean everything they say.

I'd say mine was from my aunt when I was like 14: "You know, you have such a beautiful face. If you weren't so fat, you'd be a beauty queen for sure." Although there was also this gem: "You know, as pretty as you are, you could make a lot of money as a hooker. I think men would pay well to sleep with you." Does that one count as an insult? I don't even know with that one. My aunt is... blunt, to be sure. Also, weird. The funny thing is that she totally means these to be compliments.
