Father brings his daughter into the men's locker room

Really? This nimrod brings his 4 year old daughter into the men's locker room at the gym. I saw him do it a few weeks ago but couldn't catch him (I was too busy diving for a towel). What would you do? I lost it and confronted him. Probably didn't handle it too well. There's naked men walking around without towels. Am I insane or was this guy completely clueless?

If my husband took my daughter in the locker room, I would kill him.. That is totallly unacceptable. Our gym doesn't even allow children under 12 past the lobby except for kids zumba and stuff like that.0
-
Our gym allows it until age 2, then you have to use the family locker rooms (or only the same sex child in the locker room with you). 2 seems about right to me for that. Does your gym have family locker rooms he can use?0

We have multiple family locker rooms. "What's wrong with you? This is a mens locker room and it's no place for a little girl!", I said. The morons reply? "Well she's four years old". . . . . Huh?1
-
That's really not appropriate.0

My dad used to take me into the men's locker room at the YMCA when I took swimming lessons. The story goes that I noticed a man with a long ponytail (it was the '70s) and said loudly "Daddy!! I never saw a girl with a penis before!!!"
At the Fitness Center where I work, children under 5 must be with their parent in the adult locker room, children over 5 must go to the children's locker rooms. Except for children with special needs.
I don't understand the problem really. Is it better to leave a little girl alone in the women's locker room and expect her to manage on her own and to trust that nobody shady is in there with her while she's uncared for? She's four. She can not go into a public locker room alone. She is much much safer being with her father where he can keep her safe and keep her with him.2 -
yuck yuck yuck... so inappropriate!0

I wouldn't think twice if someone brought a 4 yr old boy into the women's locker room. I don't really see the big deal either. If there were family locker rooms available though then he's just an idiot.4

You missed where he said there are multiple FAMILY locker rooms to use...where you can your other gender kid. No one is proposing sending an unsupervised 4 year old into the women's locker room.1 -
I suspect he completely underestimates his four year old. This was definitely inappropriate.0
-
I don't really see the issue.....then again I've never been in a man's locker room, so I don't know what goes on in there......0
-
I myself would have a huge issue with this.0
-
yeah, this is not okay.0

Albeit uncomfortable, I have seen many instances when men have had to bring their young daughters into the men's room of locker room. A good father will do that.2

While I TOTALLY AGREE that he should have used the family locker room instead of taking his daughter into the mens, he probably would never intentionally put his kiddo in a situation that would harm her. Yes, confront him about it. But to explode at him? He probably feels bad enough about something that was totally obvious to others but he was clueless about. A little tact can go a long way....0
-
Ammon......NO! A good father will use the FAMILY LOCKER ROOM!0

At our Y, they have a huge family locker room. Kids under nine aren't allowed in the adult locker rooms. Kids 9 and over have to go to the adult locker room of their sex, whether or not a parent is present. Any girl in a mens' locker room is inappropriate.0

Yep, I did miss that. Ooops.1 -
I have been to a gym and most of them now a day have daycare facilities. Was this a gym? And where was the mother? If it was the same sex no issue but this is your daughter she is going to ask questions.0

While Dad may think it's ok, if it makes others uncomfortable it's unacceptable. But he probably won't do it again0

I understand that dilemma, but y'know, he has a shower at home. He doesn't NEED to go in the locker room. Or he could always ask a member of staff to help him fetch his things from a locker because he has a child.0 -
I am in the "no biggie" boat on this, because bodies are bodies, and it's all just skin. HOWEVER, if there are family locker rooms, he should use them, and considering the fact that he's now done this twice (that you know of), I'd say he's making the wrong choice.
I used to go to a city rec center that didn't have family locker rooms, and everyone brought their kids in, and everyone was prepared for it and dealt with it. I can totally understand how, if there are family locker rooms available, men are not prepared and caught off guard by a child being in the locker room, so your frustration is acceptable.1 -

Yeah, definitely inappropriate, considering there are family locker rooms. I would complain to the staff of that facility if you see him doing this again.0

I hope they had hot dogs for dinner.0

If she's four years old, she's obviously not working out with him, so what's the need for her to be in an adult male change room?
At my gym, there's a day care centre where people can leave their kids in a SAFE environment to play while they go work out. They're under adult supervision and they're safe, and the parents can pick them up when they're done. I wish more people used these, or more gyms had these! I think they're a great idea, and sure beats having a child in a place that's not suitable for them!0 -

Sorry but look in the mirror and stop raging. And yes, she's 4. If she was 7 or so maybe you could be uncomfortable but you confronted some guy in the locker room about this? Really?!1 -
For those wondering WHY she could be in there...my husband and I go to the gym a lot, and our kids go to the kids gym. However, there is both an indoor and an outdoor pool and we take the kids swimming now and then, so after our workouts, we pick-up the kids from the kids gym, and go to the locker rooms to change into, and then later out of, our bathing suits. And we shower with the kids after the pool. My son is now 3 and my daughter 7, so my daughter goes with me, and my son with my husband. If one of us is taking the kids swimming without the other, we just use the family locker room. I don't think it's that unusual to have them in the locker room. And, there are kids swim lessons at our gym too, so the kids use the locker room to change before/after that as well.0

You were right. Nice to see standup guys like you man!0

yup i seen this before completly off guard it suck not that the kid no anything but for me a stranger needing to hit behind a towel wall or dive into the toliet stoal they can at least worn yeah. the gyms i've been to theres no family room but then theirs no daycare either which would only make me wounder why the kid was there. maybe to spot for daddy0
