I wouldn't think twice if someone brought a 4 yr old boy into the women's locker room. I don't really see the big deal either. If there were family locker rooms available though then he's just an idiot.

She's 4 I don't see a big deal either. The centers around here the age for going into same sex change rooms is 6. Up until my oldest son was about just before 6 he came in the women's change room where there are naked women. He started wanting his own privacy so we started going to the family change room.

Not only is it wrong for the little girl to be seeing all those naked men even at the age of 4, she will most likely remember that. But I'm sure it makes the majority of the men very uncomfortable and there are so many perves out there so if they're not uncomfortable then that is also a problem. That should not be allowed to go on!!!

I soul and have had a fit if there was a 4yr old boy in the locker room. Not not a good idea and this dad had a choice to take her to a family room. If she sees her dad named at home that is not appropriate either. OUTRAGEOUS

It doesn't matter if the dad didn't think it was a big deal.
Clearly the OP and possibly others did. He can easily use the family locker room and be respectful of the other men that are NOT as comfortable being naked around a 4 year old girl.

Just out of curiousity, would the folks saying its ok for a 4 years old to enter a mens locker room. also say that its ok if a parent or some adult is watching porn in front of a 4 years old? Cussing? Do you fight in front of your 4 years old?

I'm not judging mind you, I am just curious since I am not a parent

yup i seen this before completly off guard it suck not that the kid no anything but for me a stranger needing to hit behind a towel wall or dive into the toliet stoal they can at least worn yeah. the gyms i've been to theres no family room but then theirs no daycare either which would only make me wounder why the kid was there. maybe to spot for daddy

single dad? wife was at work? plenty of reasons the kid would be there.

I realize that this is not the issue here, but I just can't figure out why men have to "walk around naked" in the locker room.

I've seen women take their young boys around that age into the women's locker room and I didn't even consider it wrong.

Maybe it's because I'm a mom and I'm use to taking my kid everyone with me as well.

I see it almost the same as if I were taking my son to use the women's bathroom because I obviously wouldn't trust my young child to manage on his own in the men's restroom.

How is that outrageous? Nudity isn't something to be ashamed of. Yes, we have laws against running around naked(although in NY women are allowed to be topless and on Fire Island you're allowed to be naked on the beaches), but come on now! Not everyone is a pervert......what if they're nudists, or hippies? The human body is nothing to be ashamed of.

    Four is borderline.
The father to my daughter stopped dressing in front of our daughter by the time she was 2. Not that he made it a habit but it started to become a real issue by the age of two and really it was more so like 1.5 years old. I really think after 2 this may be an issue for a lot of people particularly for little girls. It may not be an issue for all, but given the sensitivity of the issue - there should be an age appropriate sign stated for each gym for opposite gender children. I am going to be frank here, I wouldn't want my 4 year old daughter in the mens gym locker room, or any mens locker room. While a 4 year old may not understand the concept (altho they do ask a lot of questions at that age), I still think it may be slightly inappropriate for many children at that age... and many parents may agree. I know there will be some that don't but unfortunately we don't live in a world where *kitten* is all rainbows and butterflies.

If there are family locker rooms - use those for changing. Otherwise maybe you should consider others and how they feel about privacy. Having little 4 year old girls in a mens locker room is slightly borderline and most likely it would be best if you went home to change clothes, shower, etc.

I have a feeling this post is going to gain lots of attention - both good and bad.

PS - my boyfriend says about this..... "even IM SCARED to go into a mens locker room. I definitely wouldn't want my four year old daughter in one!"
    Just sayin....

Wow.......your comparison is absurd! Bringing a child into a changing room is in NO WAY the same as watching porn with a child!

I don't really understand what's wrong with a four year going into the men's locker room with her father. So she might see a penis here and there. It's not like the men are smacking around their junk. My point is, she's 4. She doesn't see it as anything else except men with body parts like her father. Its not like seeing a nude man is traumatizing.

Unless they're doing the helicopter...that could very well be traumatic to see.

Taunto, seriously man? I can't get on board with that. I think there are some cultural things in play here though. I used to take my daughter to a public bath house with me all the time up until she was 4. Granted, that was Japan, but Europeans and Russians are also pretty open about nudity. The U.S. seems to be getting more touchy about it, rather than less.

You can't really send a child that small into the women's room by herself and obviously the father can't take her in there. Maybe just ask him to shout in a heads up next time so you can cover your junk. I'm sure its not something he does for kicks.

Really? This nimrod brings his 4 year old daughter into the men's locker room at the gym. I saw him do it a few weeks ago but couldn't catch him (I was too busy diving for a towel). What would you do? I lost it and confronted him. Probably didn't handle it too well. There's naked men walking around without towels. Am I insane or was this guy completely clueless?

You're insane. The rule at my gym is 5 and under are acceptable in the locker rooms. My son is 3 and accompanies me into the locker room to pee (can't send him into the men's room alone), change if he's going swimming, hang out while I change. The human body is only an uncomfortable thing to you, kids don't know (or shouldn't know) about the sexual nature of our bodies, they are just bodies and parts.

however that's not the world we live in. We live in a world where people deserve privacy and also some men and women really dont like children seeing THEM naked. I mean okay - maybe if it were our own parents but really, i dont want my child seeing 10 other guys butt *kitten* naked in a gym locker room (of opposite sex). It's just not right. While you may agree its okay for your children, most people arent comfortable being nude around other peoples kids, i know i certainly wouldnt - only for the sake of being respectful and graceful. My son is four, i no longer take him into the womens bathroom for the sake of other peoples opinions and how they feel about privacy. Some people are super private. i do admit that women are more softer about this as we are mostly all moms. however I do believe that with little girls, it is a whole new scenario. I REALLY wouldnt want my 4 year old daughter in the mens locker room! ick!

You got me. My ignorance has been amusing to many in the past.

However the question still stands. Do you cuss in front of your kids or watch porn (remember, theres softcore porn or just plain adult naked bodies and pics available too, not just hardcore porn)?

Next time, please elaborate how these two are NOT comparable since the topic at hand is about a 4 years old girl seeing naked men and I am inquiring how is it different from seeing naked bodies on TV/pics

I am in the "no biggie" boat on this, because bodies are bodies, and it's all just skin. HOWEVER, if there are family locker rooms, he should use them, and considering the fact that he's now done this twice (that you know of), I'd say he's making the wrong choice.

I used to go to a city rec center that didn't have family locker rooms, and everyone brought their kids in, and everyone was prepared for it and dealt with it. I can totally understand how, if there are family locker rooms available, men are not prepared and caught off guard by a child being in the locker room, so your frustration is acceptable.

What!? You are ridiculous. My 4 year old daughter does not need to see a bunch of D**ks in a locker room. Disgusting.

But if they're "super private" wouldn't they be getting changed at home? Why would they feel more comfortable getting naked in front of other grown men, but not in front of an child whose mind is innocent?

Not at all. I am fine with being naked and being dirty while being naked is a good thing in my book. However, I do not think that a 4 years old should be placed into an environment where there are naked men walking around everywhere...

Sorry, I didn't realize the men in the locker room were having sex, in that case it is definitely NOT appropriate to take a 4 year old to go into a locker room where people are having sex.

My family (the adults) cursed since the day I was born..and in front of me. In front of my older brother and my older and younger cousins but they were very strict in teaching us that just because the adults did it, didn't give us a right to do it. And none of us ever cursed in front of our parents...and absolutely never at them...because we had strong survival instincts..lmao. J/K. So I don't see the relevance of cursing in this regard.

Now, I do agree the guy should have used the family changing rooms. We could say, "well but this or that.." but the plain statement is..he should have. That's it.

And I agree with Taunto that using the porn analogy is really an exaggeration.

It's not just about what your kids may see or hear, but how you handle the situation. They don't know anything but they'll see how you react and adopt that attitude.

The difference between being naked and porn, let me break it down to something easier.

Say, if you are getting ready to take a shower and are standing there naked, is your goal to be aroused?
If you are watching porn, is your goal to be aroused?

See how there is a difference here?

A naked body does not always have to signify sexuality.

but to answer your questions: No porn, no cussing, and no fighting around my kid. Except at school because there's this one little boy in his class that has the mouth of a sailor and likes to hit his peers. But I try to keep that to a minimal.
