    I read all three. They were ok. Entertaining and a quick easy read.

    My question for all of you who hated it: what are you reading or have you read that is so much better? What am I missing?
    Every book ever published in the history of the world is better.

    I am an avid fan of erotica material. But all 50 shades did for me was make me wanna puke. Their sexual escapades weren't really that spectacular. I've read better sex scenes in soft porn books.

    double ditto...I'll take porn anyday over 50 shades of "Oh M GEEE my inner goddess spit up all over herself"

    I had to drag myself through the first book just to see what all the hype is about. Definitely NOT going to read the second or third ones. If you want a good BDSM book, read A. N. Roquelaure (aka. Anne Rice) "The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty" series.

    Been there, done that, Loved it. :)

    Hated the characters. I did read all three because I was financially commited. Writing stank, too much repetition and I really didn't need to read about how emotional abusive and controlling he was and she did nothing about it. I was hoping she would end up being an inspiration to women in those types of abusvie relationships, but sadly NO!

    Tried to read the first one couldn't get past the horrible writing and the horrible character development. I got about halfway and deleted it from my kindle. Nothing tha was exciting to me ( hubby must be a god :laugh: )

    Glad some people enjoyed it, but I really I really thought it was way over rated

    I sincerely am glad that books such as this get people reading who otherwise wouldn't. And that it's helped some ladies become more open about their sexuality.

    But with that being said, I'd rather *kitten* to a video of cats being skinned than read this book.

    I read the trilogy last summer by the pool.

    It's not literary brilliance in any way shape or form, but it did serve its purpose as a fun, easy read, which is what I look for in a summer book.

    The writing was horrid. It wasn't even about bondage, more like emotional abuse. The main character, the female, was NOT strong. She was a weakling who turned into jello at the knees just because Mr. Grey was supposedly rich and hot. He was ridiculously rich. He was such a turn-off. The author tried to get 'shocking' and graphic, but it was ridiculous. The two bondage scenes were a joke...

    There are several, several, SEVERAL lines that are repeated over and over...used, washed, rinsed, repeat...it was like reading the same thing over and over again. I read the second book hoping for some kind of...redemption, redeeming... something..all I got was a massive disappointment. What a waste of money!

    I did look up spoilers on part 3, and am sooo glad I did not read it.

    I read the first book. And by "read" I mean skipping all the boring stuff to get to the supposedly "super hot and steamy sex" that never appeared. I personally didn't like it which is why I never finished the trilogy.

    With that said I would love to know who her agent was because the marketing they did for the book was fabulous. That's the kind of marketing I want when my book gets published.

    Did you guys know that she was an indie writer and her book was around for few years before Yahoo decide to do an article on it and all of the sudden she is s big success? Yes, she could not sell the f**ing book. Why? Because it is not good! Why it is in stores? Because ppl started to buy it out of curiosity, publishers wanted to make money and finally bought it from her. Erotica? Please… Those kind of books have been around for ages. Why we don’t hear about Maya Banks sweet series? Or Evangeline Anderson’s Bride of the Kindred Books? Now, Evangeline has some pretty kinky books…

    I read a lot; my total for last year was 215+, some well known, some indies, all kinds. I don’t care, I just like to read, but one thing that I can’t stand is to see so much fuss about a bad written book. There are so many good writers, with excellent stories that are struggling to have a breakthrough book that will make their careers; while all the money and publicity is going to just one… Please, open your horizons and move on. If you like to read, don’t read the same book a billion times, look for other books that will give you a better appreciation of what good fiction and narrative is. Peace!

    I'm nearly at the end of the final book. I started reading them about 9 months ago on my Kindle and I bought all three at the same time! To be honest the reason it's taken so long is because they don't hold my interest. The storyline is seriously lacking in anything that holds interest. It's poorly written, repetitive and very unrealistic. Once you've read one sex scene then you've read them all. What woman in their right mind would let a guy treat her the way Christian treats Ana?! I'm reading them all as I want to know what happens at the end even though I can probably guess!

    That said, I can't wait to see what they do with it on the big screen. There's no way that it will be anywhere near as explicit as the books as it will be made in such a way that the 12-15 year old audience can go and see it to rake in the bucks!!! But if Ryan Gosling is set to play Christian.................well let's just say that I'd watch an hour and a half of Ryan Gosling sitting in a padded room! :P HA!

    Loved it! I agree that I could read the series over and over. I'm book nerd (as my husband says) and if I find a good book I'll re-read it every few months!

    All of the above. I had to stop reading after the use of the word "impaled". Cringe.

    Got bored half way through the second book. I know people in this lifestyle. I think society is uncertain if BDSM behaviors are ok or wrong. The craze seems to be about the airing of this taboo topic. I agree that the series wasn't the best but I do believe that the way the relationship between the two evolved is similar to some people's experiences in the BDSM lifestyle. There are many forms of BDSM. 50 Shades was a story of a relationship and how it evolved.

    I have a lot of respect for Ryan Gosling as anactor. He seems to choose challenging, interesting roles and respects his art. He's very talented.

    I hope he has more integrity than to take on this role. He would be doing himself a serious disservice.

    i did rewad it. i must say i like the translated version much better than teh original- i read the 3rd book in english, and the same words keep on repeating.

    once i got past the idea how the book is looking somehow ''down'' on women- makin them look all weak i enjoyed it. i would list it as good holiday reading when your mind is set on the off mode.
